The problem with the E1831 firmware was that there was transmission spikes.
Meaning the graph goes up, spikes, then drops to 1mbps, then goes up, spikes then drop down to 1mbps, and does this 5-6 times on speed test.
UL speed like stuck at 1mbps or thereabouts. So something is obviously wrong with the K version firmware.
Also, when I got the modem, under properties, the serial number is not listed but this isn't important. The IMEI is the most important thing.
Actually this setup isn't for my home, I'm short of multisims, this is for my parents, but before cancel streamyx at their house must test and make sure my mom doesn't haunt me "Why the internet not working?"
Oh ya, also, I didn't bring a laptop to test the modem. The shop tested it for me and they had a problem, the modem on celcom was stuck on EDGE and couldn't hook onto celcom 3G network. He was using stock huawei mobile partner.

digi, how long does your router take to initialise a connection on the UMG1831?
Added on January 16, 2012, 9:05 amOh btw, if I put the modem on the floor, I get ~22% signal.
Added on January 16, 2012, 9:07 amI suspect the UMG1831's radio isn't very sensitive.
In office, I cannot detect any maxis 3G signal. My phone at least has 1 bar at the same exact location.
That possibly explains why the UMG1831 only provides/shows 40-45% signal strength when my phone shows full.

Ah 3min, can, then mine is considered 'normal'. Thanks for that. Nokia X3-02, the problem is not enough multisims. Maybe got to apply for one more unlimited plan (but probably rejected). ^^

No la, don't need it at the moment. Short of sims. This setup not for my own usage.
Added on January 16, 2012, 10:13 am@fruitie, do you need to actively cool your E1762 on 24/7 usage?
Added on January 16, 2012, 11:31 am@chuah,
when u use the laptop cooling pad, does your router get dusty? There are small vents on the bottom of the router

Maxis did tweak the cell towers in my area to give me at least 1 bar reception on 3G now.
Previously was 0 bar.
Now @ office DL: 1.7mbps constant UL: 0.4mbps ping: 77ms
At least now I can still check on things without getting timeout and falling back to edge.

I am in JB. Anyway, I asked the maxis ppl, none of them want to sell me their modems. They said maxis controlling now and only issue modems tied to specific simcard.
And I asked on sales girl "what if i am using maxis BB, then my modem broke, so how?"
She told me "don't know.."

Actually those E1762 that we find, is all old stock. I have contacts at the MEP and they too confirmed that maxis is quite strict now.
But they only have E173, which I am not exactly sure if got UMTS900/2100.

There's a big difference in my area depending on the IP addresses I connect to.
Some IP addresses give me only 3-5mbps download and 0.8mbps upload Some IP give me 11mbps download and 2mbps upload

Don't recall it as such, I do know the last digits are dual digit.
xxx.xxx.xxx.64
this one give me inconsistent connection speed.
I do think that 124 does give me 11mb download.

Later tonight I try again. I'll be getting an icon to test, but that isn't a HSPA+ modem.
But I will compare consistency on the download.
From my observations with the UMG1831, it isn't very consistent. It gives spikes and in real world usage it'll mean that users will experience choppy usage.
Example if streaming, it will load nice, then pause, then load nice and pause.

What? It shows as GPRS data?
What does that mean? Shouldn't billing be the same for GPRS and 3G data?

@digilife, what's your firmware version for UMG1831?
Added on January 17, 2012, 2:42 pm@chuah ICON 505 is supported by MDMA10, have you tried it yet? Because based on my reading, since beta 6 the chipset has been supported.

We're on same firmware. At the moment I only have 1 modem to test, so maybe you can help me test and report back so I can conclude the reflashing UMG1831 guide.
Okay, when I open MDMA beta 10, then insert the modem, and I press device info, it won't show the IMEI number.
But if I close it, then i open mobile partner, inside there the IMEI is present. I close this, go back to MDMA beta 10, and inside the IMEI is available.
Let me know if this happens for u to.
Added on January 17, 2012, 3:07 pm**Update
Sometimes when I put it in directly, the IMEI appears. I wonder if this is a 'symptom' of the unauthorised firmware.
Just to note, all important numbers are present.
IMEI, hardware ID, firmware ID, serial number.
Added on January 17, 2012, 3:13 pmAlso, what version of windows are you using? I can't seem to get hardware ID etc.

Got it from here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php...31-Beta-TestingOn that firmware you have, is the modem stable? And do you need to actively cool the modem if running for long periods?

@chuah I tried to find a 2 male to 1 female USB cable, can't find.
Any particular powered USB hub you'd recommend? I feel that the UMG1831 has a very power hungry antenna, and if the reception is low (low for it and not for mobiles), the damn thing will keep disconnecting and restarting.
I can't even get a connection on it at my parents. But at home own home, it's okay.
