sian, the e353 i sourced, is only single UMTS band.

I realised the suffix on the huawei modem means the 3G band support.
-1 , means single band
-2 , means dual band

as for what is u, s, i can't exactly tell you.

Added on January 13, 2012, 5:25 pmDamn it, maxis told me that my work place no planned upgrades or new towers for the year.

And the nearest 2 towers are each about 1km away either side.

Took me an hour just to get the sims, the service center people at first tell me can only get 1 multisim, then i said 5, then bring out 1 primary + 4 secondary, then i said total can get 6, 1+5, don't believe me, end up call the head tech person, then can. -.-'''''

Sweat man...

On the MR3420 it can't detect, it just write 3G modem.

Directly connect, I cannot access the F: (i assume internal SD), no autorun
I am downloading MDMA now

Added on January 15, 2012, 6:49 pmon MDMA, the modem cannot be detected, it's just stalling. Any idea?

Nope, got it locally. Not from CS.
MDMA can detect that it's maxis and provide me with signal, but cannot connect. lol

I can connect it to MR3420 already, but the connection takes frigging forever to get connected.

I got 0.2mb rofl.

Added on January 15, 2012, 7:28 pmYes I am on win7, but the weird part is when I plugged into MR3420, it cannot detect the modem, and when can detect, it is E1831, then it disconnects. Now I am getting a 'stable' but totally unusable connection. 1.8DL, 0.05UL

Er, I updated to latest firmware. What versions you guys using?

Added on January 15, 2012, 7:39 pmOkay, I realised a problem.

The MR3420 recognises it as 3G modem.
It only attempts connection if I try to access a website.
But I have set it to auto connect.

QUOTE(chuahcs79 @ Jan 15 2012, 07:53 PM)
plug in your modem, run MDMA, go to open network and sharing centre, change adapter setting, check which connection is RAS ( icon is phone with 2 TV ),.. change anyone of that connection name -> MDMA,../

Note, NDIS cannot use with MDMA, ( NDIS icon is like wireless signal type )

I don't really understand this...

oh okay, chuah, have u tried the UMG1831 with MR3420?
Does yours identify the modem as UMG1831? Mine is E1831 and takes quite long to identify the modem.

Can you tell me which firmware u are on for MR3420?

I did try that version but cannot sad.gif it just keeps trying to identify the modem.
Is there any way I can flash the modem's ROM?

Added on January 15, 2012, 11:24 pmuser posted image

The modem isn't very stable, look at those spikes, although the top speed is good, but spiking makes it quite jittery.
And my modem still showes E1831 which is weird sad.gif

Well, I may return it, don't think I need it if it's this unstable.

Okay, I managed to flash to UMG1831
This is what I got now

Much better upload speed. I will now test with the MR3420.

If anyone needs help to downgrade, I will let you know the tools.

Took me a while to get the tools, need to download 2 items.
But once downloaded, its very fast. No problems with IMEI, it retains.

Added on January 16, 2012, 1:06 amOn the MR3420, usually how long does it take for it to identify the modems?

This is my first time using a 3.5/3.75G router, it takes like 2-3 minutes at least to identify the modem. Now it identifies it as UMG1831.

Ya, I told you I stay like 80-100metres from a cell tower. lol... and got no office or shop, only 2 story houses in my direct line of sight to the tower.

Actually I managed to get 20+mbps speed. But those where before i 'downgraded'.

But now the modem detection is much faster, ~2minute. As compared to before takes like 5-7min. Then come out E1831.

Added on January 16, 2012, 1:25 amWho needs unifi when you got maxis. smile.gif

I was actually quite apprehensive about flashing back to the UMG1831.
Because i heard some people lost their serial numbers. But no issue, the Tmobile software backed up and restored everything.

Once the modem is identified, it seems quite stable.

Also, at 21mbps the modem runs cooler. I urge everyone who wants this modem to check that the modem name in dialer/etc is UMG1831 and not E1831.

I got my UMG from johor @RM180 that came preloaded with some different firmware.
Caused some download problems as well as router identification issues.

I managed to downgrade the firmware. And now the modem is running stable and much cooler.

Before you continue, do this at your own risk, I take no responsibility if you render your modem useless.

You will need 2 tools.

1) An unlock code generator based on IMEI, google this
2) T-mobile updater for UMG1831 (web connect rocket 2.0), download from Tmobile website, if it asks for number, type this telephone number: 6156680000

************Disclaimer************
I do not guarantee that your IMEI will be preserved, but if it disappears, follow this link: IMEI recovery

Instructions:
1. Take a picture of the serial number using your phone, or write it down for easy reference.

2. Open the IMEI unlock code generator
2a. Type in IMEI number, press unlock
2b. Copy the code for password, NOT unlock, unlock code is only for unlocking modem, you want the password for upgrade

3. Execute/open the tmobile huawei UMG1831 upgrader
3a. Let it search and it will then tell you the following:
- Model number: UMG1831
- Firmware version: xxx (forgot this)
- IMEI number: Make sure IMEI is present here
3b. A popup will appear, stating that the "the source version isn't compatible with the target version, before updating, please input the password"
3c. This is where you will need to type in the password generated earlier
3d. A disclaimer will appear giving you specific instructions to leave the modem, computer on and not to touch it till the upgrade is complete

4. Once completed a popup will appearing saying that IMEI number is: xxxx
Make sure that the IMEI is present by using the mobile partner to check

Done. If you do not have the IMEI, follow the link provided.
I did this, total it took me 5 minutes once I got the tools.

*****************Disclaimer number 2**********************
I am not responsible for your tinkering of your modem, please do not file any litigation against me or complain or curse me. Do this at your OWN RISK.
This guide is only intended as a last resort for users that have issues, again, please do it at your OWN RISK.

I missed out 2 steps -.-'' Updated my post. Apologies.
My signal using MR3420 yesterday at home with the UMG1831 was ~45%

I was 2 metres from the window and the modem/router was on my bed.
I had to use a laptop to do the config while I used my home computer on wired to read instructions and troubleshoot.

I suspect that if I can find a good area, my speed will increase to near 20mbps and upload to 4mbps.
