g_pentium, the Sony 85mm f/2.8 is an excellent lens for its price. Gives great results. And it's a full frame lens to boot - so no issues with FF compatibility in the future. It's hard to get a 2nd hand unit for this lens, since it's release, I've only seen ONCE that this lens has been for sale in the 2nd hand market, goes to show how treasured this gem of a lens it is that no one wants to let go of it after acquiring it.

The 85mm f2.8 is truly a great little lens!! I'm one of the very few the lucky buggers that got the lens on the second hand market! |

guys...last night..i played around wiht my sony A-55...and i discovered a few things with it...
1. i tried recording AVCHD video with my cam...and it turns out....even with steadyshot turned off....i still cant pass the 7 minute recording mark without it overheating....so this proves...that the overheating isnt caused by the steadyshot...its some other part of the cam.... 2. also....averagely, with every 1 minute of video footage recorded, 1% of my battery is used up....so basically...one battery can only record up to 100 minutes of video (wiht a full charge) 3. i havent tested it out on the m-peg 4....but i predict the results will be the same! |

QUOTE(ReasonsofThanatos @ Nov 23 2011, 01:35 PM) No. The 85mm f2.8 is definitely NOT a MF lens. It's a full time AF lens with a MF switch! LOL!I should know, I use it quite a lot! NutZ748 : It's a misconception that FF lens will perform better on APS-C. They perform the same. Just that on APS-C you won't see the ACTUAL corners of the lens. What you see is only the areas around the center which for every lens is the sharpest area. The 85mm f2.8 is sharp!! No question about that. Not on par with the 85mm f1.4 Zeiss of course but sharp nonetheless. The 85mm Zeiss is easily 5 times the price but is 2 stops brighter and a little sharper and a little more contrasty. So in terms of value, the 85mm f2.8 is unsurpassable!! |
