QUOTE(leoboom @ Jun 28 2007, 01:07 PM) mind sharing which hosts caught ur eye? OK, I'll try not to over-promote any hosting without any basis. But I've been looking either of these 3 companies: serverfreak 1GB hosting Been with them for a few years. Very satisfied esp with the uptime record. RM100 before LYN discount. internetforall.com 1GB hosting Cost USD24. Not much idea about them but their server uptime seems good. 3essentials.com 1GB hosting Cost USD18. Uptime record not bad either. |

Yes, I really love CynetStudio's custom hosting where I get to choose how much disk space + bandwidth to purchase. Very affordable too!

First Online (M) Sdn. Bhd First Online (M) Sdn Bhd (co 746947-P) ( http://www.firstonline.net ) is a company fully own by Advanced Display Sdn Bhd located in Johor Bahru. We are specializing in Web Hosting business, customized web base software, ready web base software, web designing & development and domains registration. Our company is the developer for MyBizCart Software ( http://www.mybizcart.com ) which is one of the most popular shopping cart software. Our branch office in Kuala Lumpur has now started it's operation by 2nd July 2007. Thus we are now offering a great deal of hosting solution to you all. Why choose hosting services from us? Server Type: Intel Xeon Double Processor Server with 2GB RAM Network Connectivity: 155Mbps (STM1) backbone to internet located at data centre Additional Link: 3 x E1 Multiple internet redundancy Power Backup: 8 hours centralized UPS and backup Diesel Generator Fire System: Temperature / Smoke detector FM200 gas-based fire-suppression system Security: -24 hours security with card access control. -Web camera surveillance system . Web Control Panel: We use CPanel, world number one web control panel. ![]() Another Really Really important fact :- **Must Read** Our hosting package is all independent hosting for each customer.. What is means is that we are not using Shared hosting for you. The big different is that Shared hosting package for example like 2GB disk space with 50GB bandwidth could be shared by more than 20 user/account for that particular 2GB. You all share that 2GB among all the user. u would not fully utilize that space because of sharing. Then that makes you can get only 100MB per user/account if you are lucky enough. While independent hosting is that all the disk space offer to you is fully used by you only. So that's how some company can offer cheap cheap price, because they no need worry, 20 accounts x RM 99(let's say) make them earned RM1980 just for selling 2GB. So try to check before you purchase any package and at the end arguing why cannot use more than 100MB while stating 2GB. That must hurt you a lot. And for your info Malaysia law does not permit any hosting company to hold their customer account if the client wanted to transfer or terminate their hosting with that company. Every customer have the right to change hosting company if show necessary unless having unsettle payment with that company only. _______________________________________________________________________________ Our Hosting Packages :- Premium Silver -click here- RM150.00 yearly (50MB disk space/ 1GB data transfer monthly/ 10 POP 3 accounts) **Free setup** Premium Gold -click here- RM250.00 yearly (250MB disk space/ 5GB data transfer monthly/ 50 POP 3 accounts) **Free setup** Budget EW2-1 -click here- RM199.00 yearly (2GB disk space/ 1GB data transfer monthly/ Unlimited POP 3 accounts) **Free setup** MyBizCart Lite(Shopping cart software) -click here- RM398.00 yearly + RM600.00 one time setup fee (1GB disk space/ 2GB data transfer monthly/ 10 POP 3 accounts) MyBizCart Pro(Shopping cart software) -TO BE RELEASE SOON- To compare packages prices and features CLICK here ---> Packages Comparison _______________________________________________________________________________ For information and contact : Melvin 014-6321278 This post has been edited by shinjo: Jul 16 2007, 12:13 PM |

In the current hosting industry, new webhosts come and go every day- and this creates a lot of competition among those hosting companies. In order to stay competitive, many hosts have come to believe that overselling their server resources seems like a good solution to providing the lowest prices possible without loosing their profit margin.
Overselling is pretty much what its name implies, a web host or bandwidth provider sells more resources than they actually have available to provide. This is done with the assumption that the clients will not actually end up using all the resources they have been promised. To explain this further, imagine this scenario: Our un-named new host starts out by purchasing a server from a datacenter for $500/month (choosing an easy, round number). This server has two 500GB mirrored hard drives (so only 500GB is available, the other hard drive is a backup in case of hardware failure) and is provided with 1000GB of bandwidth per month. The host decides that he wants to offer plans that provide 50gb of HDD space, and 100GB of bandwidth to their customers. Doing the math, he can fit ten accounts on to the server if he allocates the space (500gb/50gb = 10, 1000gb/100gb = 10). To clear cost, he needs to price these packages at $50/month ($500 server cost / 10 = $50). However, he forgot to factor in licenses for billing software, a help desk (plus wages for the technicians), control panels to control the server (example, cPanel/WHM), and the extras he wants (such as Fantastico). He is now looking at a cost of about $1000/month to run the server (again, an easy, round number). The host wants to clear at least 15% profit, so now he has to raise his prices again. This leads to $1000 + 15% = $1150, and $1150 / 10 accounts = $115 per plan. After one month, the host has sold his 10 accounts, and is making $150 profit every month on the server. Checking the server logs, he realized that the server only uses about 25% of its capacity. Their clients are only using 125GB of the server's 500gb, and his bandwidth use averages at 250GB per month. Here is where overselling comes in. With the idea that most of his clients will not use their resources, he decides to sell another ten similar accounts. The server is now only at 50% of its capacity. This gives our host another $1150 in profits! Great! - Until their clients' sites start to grow. In short, typically hosts that oversell their servers will start out great: the server is fast and reliable and downtime is a minimum. However, eventually performance gradually declines as the users of the server use more and more resources. This leads to very unhappy customers, their renew rate starts to drop, the host's reputation is damaged, and the company eventually goes out of business. On top of all this, there are many other things to consider when a server is oversold: CPU time and memory are never an infinite resource on a server and typically max out much sooner than the server's hard drives and bandwidth. This is usually what leads performance issues on the server as the CPU and RAM are 'full'. Overselling is a common practice among hosts that offer the $4.99/month plans for huge amounts of resources (eg, 50GB space, 1000GB bandwidth/month). If their cost per server is $1000/month, that means you are sharing that server with 200 other accounts, so they should have 10TB of HDD space available, and 200,000GB of bandwidth per month. Not only are the server specs quite unrealistic (actually impossible), the server will be very unreliable! |
