QUOTE(ZintanthraX @ Mar 3 2012, 01:07 AM) can anyone here sum up about cyclic ketogenic diet? i already googled it up, but my brain is not on par of parsing the info into something that i understand. (damn i wish im good in science) CKD is a slight modification where you have carb up days to help you maintain energy levels and LBM. Carb ups can be advantageous in the sense that you can restore glycogen, helps you satisfy your cravings and combat thyroid downregulation. It goes something like this, you have 5-6 days where you eat very low carbs and then 1-2 days of carbing up.

QUOTE(kurtkob78 @ Mar 3 2012, 08:09 AM) Guys, do you really need alot of protein to build muscle like 1g per pound of bodyweight? and do you really need to eat protein every 3 to 5 hour to prevent muscle breakdown? got lit review to back it up? I don't think 1g per pound of bw is a lot. I think most people considers it very little. Anyway, the scientific community established that number as the max amount to maximize protein syntesis, although there are factors that can lead individuals towards higher protein intake that may be sufficient to reach zero nitrogen balance. For instance, high energy needs or caloric deficit. Technically protein intake during a caloric surplus could be lower because the other macros are protein sparing. Optimal protein intake is not something that is black and white for everyone. More research needs to be done on long term effects on LBM and other factors. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P...29150/table/T1/With regards to eating every 3-5 hours to prevent muscle breakdown. No, its not necessary. This is kind of a non-issue. EDIT: adjusted poor wording. This post has been edited by darkseifer: Mar 3 2012, 12:32 PM

The research review came to the conclusion that 2.2g per kg is the maximum amount needed to maximize protein synthesis. Click the link at the top of the table to take you to the review. I've already explained why it can be lower or higher.

QUOTE(entryman @ Apr 1 2012, 11:58 PM) Give him a second chance. Citing high calories and pesticide levels as justifications don't seem too outrageous. Iirc he said it is bad fat, which he could not substantiate. High calorie does not make it intrinsically bad. There is pesticide in everything. He has yet to prove how it can be harmful.
