As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

i think it contributed, but i think its because of our new style+rotation that compounded this...fast pace passing games needs a group of players who consistently playing together on the field, but i also think that we will be fine as the season gets longer and the players are more comfortable with the rotation and the style of play

QUOTE
Chicharito signs new deal

Javier Hernandez has signed a new five-year deal which will see the striker stay at Old Trafford until the end of the 2015/16 season.

Chicharito, 23, signed for United from his hometown club of Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico in July 2010 and made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut in the Community Shield against Chelsea. He has gone on to make 55 appearances for United and score 23 goals.

Sir Alex Ferguson told ManUtd.com he is delighted by the news, saying: “The last player I remember making an impact as big and as quickly as Javier is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he reminds me of Ole a lot.

"His talent for creating space in the box and his finishing ability mark him out as a natural goalscorer. Off the pitch, he is a pleasure to manage. He works very hard and is a popular member of the squad.”

The man himself said he was thrilled to have committed himself to the club for a further five years.

“Playing for Manchester United has been a dream come true for me," insisted Hernandez. "I never expected my first year to go so well and I’m delighted to commit my future to United.

"To win a title and appear in a Champions League final was fantastic. I’m looking forward to helping my teammates as we bid to win more trophies for this great club.”

agreed...yesterday monday nite verdict...statistically...we let concede 91 shot on target to our gk/DDG...how bad is our closing down n defending...we just dont close down the opponent enuf...attacking football is in our gene...we can always score...but to let 91 shot on our goal...its ridiculous...far from what man utd r...

someone post the stats of our midfield players that play n let opponent get a shot on our goal...carrick is the highest percent i think...fletch is the lowest...but hey...its not about the role or position or player SAF assign we shud get the job done... for me...as a midfield player attacking or defensive...u r the heart beat...the engine room...u hav box to box la...attacking la...DMC la...makelele la...as a midfield...u run the show...u r there when ur team mate need u...attack wise or defence wise...u shud be available for them to support...be the playmaker...before the opponent get to do something in our half...midfield shud stop the in the middle of the park...thats whay striker can do defensive work in their attacking zone to protect the our midfield n defender early...keep them away out from the 30 yard zone...

just me n my midfield maestro thinking as a midfield player...ahahaha...no offence...today got frendly at uniten...hopefully jgn hujan lebat banjir...mandiii weyhhh

All over the internet,i like how balotelli is now the funniest, coolest and classiest guy ever. shakehead.gif @ media

I really dont know what kind of line-up to expect for the aldershot match. Could it be a drastic and massive change from the keeper up to the strikers to make a point to the players? Or will it be a semi strong line-up to get is back on track?

I don't understand why they still attacking with only 3 defenders in stoppage time
3-1 and 3 minutes left against the team on top of the table, no way can score 2 goals

It's easy for us to comment on it retrospectively. If we had stayed back and defend, some other people will say "why not attack more, since nothing to lose?". So it's not fair to say "should do this, should do that". SAF himself also said the team should know better than to go gungho after 3-1 though. But like I said, he also made that comment retrospectively.

At least now the players will learn that when trying to get back to get a point or a win during the dying stages, they can't forget defending as well.

It's normal for ABU la, win Manchester United = win the trophy psychologically and celebrate kaw kaw. laugh.gif

But the CC match, reckon that Vidic will play 45mins to gain back fitness because this saturday Everton match we need him to command the back 4 and gain back defend confidence. wink.gif

^hopefully Vidic will play full match tonight. he's rusty, but he's essential to steady our back 4. Smalling, Evans and Jones can learn much from him. they're an exciting prospects, but young defenders always bound to make stupid mistakes here and there. the young twin need a proper game. though i love Evra, he's nowhere his best. not this season, nor last season. Fabio need to challenge Evra for LB position (injury always held him back)..

hopefully Cleverley will be back, Pogba can get a minutes..

still hurt with last result, but life goes on.. stuffed with humble pies, but hopefully that will spurs our players to play better and better..

TBH I don't feel butthurt.. But I feel sad for other teams that's celebrating the trashing at OT last Sunday.. To the extend of making a signature that have nothing to do with their club, is absolutely pitiful. I'd rather my team beat Liverpool 6-0 than City beat Liverpool 6-0 and celebrate like we beat Liverpool 6-0.

Boss makes plans for Shots

Sir Alex is planning on taking a similar squad to Aldershot to the one that was on duty at Leeds in the previous round of the Carling Cup.

The right blend of youth and experience will be utilised for the EBB Stadium encounter against Dean Holdsworth's League Two side.

"At the moment, I've got a really strong squad," he told MUTV. "We took 23 players to Romania with us and left Rio [Ferdinand] behind because we weren't planning to use him in that game.

"So, with a squad of 24 players, some of them have to have games. Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov must have games.

"It'll be similar to what we did at Leeds, really. All [the youngsters involved at Elland Road] will be travelling with us.

"Young players emerge and take someone's position. It's happened time and time again at this club and I've experienced it over my 25 years. You see a young emerging star coming through the youth team, and then comes the Reserves and, before you know it, you say why don't you put this boy in the first team.

"It's down to temperament. That's important, and ability, courage and determination. They're all the factors we need for top players at United."

Sir Alex was speaking to MUTV's Matchday Live, which starts at 18:30 on Tuesday.

TBH I don't feel butthurt.. But I feel sad for other teams that's celebrating the trashing at OT last Sunday.. To the extend of making a signature that have nothing to do with their club, is absolutely pitiful. I'd rather my team beat Liverpool 6-0 than City beat Liverpool 6-0 and celebrate like we beat Liverpool 6-0.

ouch for Macheda.

but I think Berba and Owen will get the job done.

another chance for Fryers ? There must be something special about this lad . I'm anxious to see Pogba again in action

(even though one might say it just Aldershot)

For the second goal, good pass by Owen but excellent run by Berbatov to catch up to it. I've hardly ever seen him run so much so fast. Heh heh. Great play from Berbatov as well to spot Owen running into the box. I thought Owen's finish was not as good because he shot straight at the GK. It wasn't an easy shot to save but much easier than if he had placed it to the goalie's left hand corner (back towards where the ball came from). Nonetheless, good goal by the team.

Amos 7.5 -- calm and collected throughout, a great save at the end of the match

Fabio 7.5 -- was doing good, but lost concentration a bit towards the end, rumored to replace Evra against Everton, but will have to do better than this game
Vidic 7.5 -- thought he lost his head again after the yellow, but he recovered well after that, still the rock in the heart of the defense
Jones 7.5 -- solid game for him, continues to improve
Fryers 7.5 -- did little on the offense, but defensively he was good, has the potential

Valencia 7.5 -- still showing lack of confidence, reluctant to take on his defenders most of the time, scoring a screamer will hopefully help to boost his confidence
Park 8.0 -- the South Korean ran all over the pitch and made some good passes, even made a good dart into the penalty box
Cleverley 8.0 -- finally back from injury, and finally we see the one touch combo that leads to the first goal, but still a bit rusty, should return and partner Ando this weekend
Diouf 7.0 -- well left wing is not his position....felt what Macheda feel during the Leeds match

Owen 7.5 -- barely has a touch on the ball, but one opportunity, and he scored, clockwork
Berbatov 8.5 -- MoM, worked his sock off, demanded the ball at every possible possession, even dropped deep to get it himself, the man was on a mission to prove something to the gaffer, might nick his first start vs Everton

Pogba 7.0 -- nice cameo, but definitely still needs time to improve his overall game
Morrison 7.5 -- was more adventurous than Pogba, showed vision in his passing, and definitely will shine if his understanding with team mates improves, great prospect
Keane 7.0 -- did his job at RB, made some mistakes, but that's his first senior appearance, it was to be expected

overall a routine win for the team, gave those non regulars a run of game, and blooded some youngsters, job done...no doubt the gaffer will use this game as a yardstick to contemplate shaking up the team during the Everton match, we'll see who will be cut from the starting lineup this weekend

i think all of our striker can work well with each other...only the lack of creativity in our midfield n not enuf supply for them make they drop deep a lot...like roon n berba collected the ball from deep...welbeck often make himself available on the wing henry style...we need striker who drag the opponent defensive line back down their penalty box...only chica master at this...maybe owen capable as well...but the supply is not enuf yet...

Praise for debutant Keane

QUOTE
Reserves boss Warren Joyce has praised United's latest first-team debutant Michael Keane.

The 18-year-old defender came off the bench at Aldershot, replacing Ezekiel Fryers, to become the fourth player to make his United bow in this season's competition.

Keane also managed to pip his twin brother Will to an appearance as the striker was an unused substitute at the EBB Stadium.

"Michael has had a really good season," enthused Joyce to ManUtd.com. "I can't remember him having a bad training session, let alone a bad game.

"He's a consistent kid who works very hard."

Another of the Reds' recent debutants, Larnell Cole, was also a substitute after getting a brief taste of action at Leeds in the previous round.

"Larnell Cole is another one who I can't remember having a bad session," added Joyce. "He and Michael are really consistent."

Amos enjoys being in control

QUOTE
Control and concentration were the keys for United goalkeeper Ben Amos as he marked his second senior match of the season with a second clean sheet.

The 21 year-old made one flying save at the very end of the Reds’ 3-0 win at Aldershot Town, to keep out Luke Gutteridge’s piledriver and deny the hosts a consolation goal, but it was otherwise a quiet night for the man wearing the number 40 shirt.

“Obviously it was good to get the save at the end, to show what I can do,” Amos told MUTV, “but I didn't have a lot to do, just distribution and tidying things up. That’s one of the biggest things about being a goalkeeper for Manchester United - you can have nothing to do all game and then, when the one thing you need to do comes along, you've got to do it well and keep it out. That's my job, to keep a clean sheet and I think everyone's happy.”

The game went very much according to plan, said Amos, as United dominated possession and converted three chances inside the first 48 minutes.

“Our aim was to control the game at our tempo like we did at Elland Road [against Leeds in the previous round]. If you give the home team even a bit of encouragement, especially in a tight ground like this, the crowd get behind them and get on your back.

"If you're not switched on, these games can go horribly wrong," Amos added. "Concentration is vital and you need to be ruthless in the box and put your chances away. We wanted to kill them off early doors and we did it with some nice goals.”

Valencia still improving

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson feels Antonio Valencia is not quite at 100 per cent despite his stunning strike at Aldershot.

The United winger impressed on his return from injury towards the end of last season but the manager feels he needs to handle the Ecuadorian with care.

Valencia missed out on a large chunk of the 2010/11 campaign following a serious ankle injury sustained against Rangers in the Champions League and was also sidelined after being hurt whilst on Copa America duty for his country in the summer.

"I had a chat with Antonio yesterday," Sir Alex revealed to MUTV after the 3-0 win in the Carling Cup. "He, himself, says he's needing games.

"He was a long time out and has been back but probably needs another few games. Tonight was another one."

Valencia certainly showed no signs of rustiness when hammering in the third goal at the EBB Stadium but, after also being used at right-back recently, the wide man will be hoping to prove his fitness for another stint in his preferred position.

He will never get a good reception there, after all he was badge kissing back there and "once a blue always a blue" thingy as well.

But i do still hope the whole team can rebound and get a win there. A winning streak is quite critical now, especially now its the turn of the other top 6 teams to play each other. If we win most of our next 10 or so games, whatever results between them will definitely benefit us.

United send Paul Scholes to watch Huddersfield starlet Jordan Rhodes

QUOTE
Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes, after sending newly appointed scout Paul Scholes to run the rule over the free-scoring 21-year-old.

Scholes was in the stands at the Galpharm Stadium last night, where Rhodes found the net once again, as Huddersfield drew 2-2 with Scunthorpe United.

The strike was Rhodes' ninth in his last four matches for the Terriers, while a hat-trick for Scotland's Under-21's in-between means he has 12 goals in five matches for club and country, in a remarkable purple patch.

That superb form has led to increased speculation about Rhodes' future, with a host of Premier League clubs now increasing their interest in the powerful hitman, who bagged 22 strikes in all competitions last term.

Sir Alex Ferguson has since been put on to the player by Scotland Under-21 boss Billy Stark, and with United loanee Oliver Norwood also in action last night, he instructed newly appointed scout Scholes to take a closer look and report back.

However, should Ferguson decide to push ahead with a bid, it's likely to take up to £5 million to secure his services, after Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle warned off interested parties last week.

Smalling puts United first

QUOTE
Chris Smalling has revealed a willingness to play in both Euro 2012 and the Olympic Games should the opportunity arise, but insists Manchester United are his primary focus.

The European Championship begin in Warsaw on 8th June, ending in Kiev on 1st July, while the London Olympic tournament starts just 24 days later, running until 12th August, merely a week before the Premier League season commences.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson last week criticised the notion of players participating in both summer competitions along with his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger.

At 21, Smalling would be eligible for Stuart Pearce's Olympic squad but has recently broken into Fabio Capello's England side following impressive club performances since his £10million move to United.

The FA has yet to make a firm decision on whether any players will be selected for Euro 2012 and the Olympics, but the likelihood is players will be chosen for one or the other.

Defender Smalling would simply relish the opportunity to feature in either tournament but admitted his club currently takes priority.

"I have to say that England is not my first target at the moment and neither are the Olympics," Smalling told the Manchester Evening News.

"United is what I am thinking about.

"But towards the end of the season I will be looking towards that and hopefully I might get into the England squad. Obviously I'd love to go there.

"There is also the Olympics as well. A lot of the lads who went to the Under-21 Championships last summer will be able to play in it.

"Whether it's the Euros, the Olympics, or both - you would like to be involved because these opportunities do not come around too often."

Young doubtful for Everton trip

QUOTE
Ashley Young is a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Everton after picking up a toe injury.

The winger will be assessed on Friday before a decision is made and he's not the only player in the United camp nursing bumps and bruises.

"We have one or two knocks," Sir Alex Ferguson revealed at his Friday press conference. "Ashley Young has a toe injury and we’ll see what he’s like today.

"The knocks are nothing serious and I hope we’ll have a strong enough squad for tomorrow."

Fall-out from last week's derby defeat has dominated the press and Sir Alex says it's time to put a difficult week – eased only slightly by Tuesday's Carling Cup win at Aldershot – in the past.

"We hope we can recover from the disappointment of last week," the Reds boss said. "We’ve done that well over the years and we have to do that again.

"Nothing changes in football. The challenge is always there to be the very best, which we hope we can do now.

"Once the international football finishes after the next period, all the clubs will get settled and kick on in terms of having uninterrupted run between November and March.

"It’s been a tough week for everyone – it was a bad result last Sunday. We have to get over it, though – the fans, the players, the staff. We must kick on."

United are without a win at Goodison Park since 2007 and can expect another tough encounter this weekend against David Moyes' side, who suffered a 2-1 extra-time Carling Cup exit to Chelsea in midweek.

Louis Saha scored the Toffees' goal in that game to make it two in as many games for the former Reds frontman.

Sir Alex added: "It’s always a difficult game at Everton. I went to see their game on Wednesday. They all put a shift in and are always committed.

"We know what Louis is capable of – he has fantastic ability and we have to make sure we do our best [against him]."

The likes of Ezekiel Fryers, Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison and Michael Keane all got a chance to impress in the Reds' 3-0 win over the Shots and Sir Alex says his youngsters are all knocking on the door of the first team.

"They’re always in my mind," he said. "We had a lot of good performances on Tuesday – it was a very professional display. When you’re picking from 25 players it is difficult, but I know all the players will contribute this season.

"We enjoyed Tuesday night but we need to show ourselves tomorrow."

Smalling - Vida - Rio/Jones - Evra
Nani - Anderson - Cleverley - Young/Park
Roo - Chicharito

Either Fergie will stick with the same lineup and demand a respond from them or the gaffer might switch things around. God knows what he has in mind now unsure.gif

i think supporters other than United's no longer support for their team to win, is support United to lose.... doh.gif

any way, my lineup prediction:

DDG

Smalling--Vidic--Jones--Fabio

Valencia--Anderson--Cleverley--Nani

Rooney--Welbeck

but quite tricky to predict as we don't know how much SAF will change the team after the thrashing

I think Smalling is more similar mould to Rio & I think it's not fair to drop Rio because one game. He did well against Pool,no?

Personally , Vida-Rio or Vida-Smalling.

A trio of ando, cleverley and carrick to play if we go 4-5-1. I prefer park over valencia. He posed more threat than valencia. Park can be amf too.

guys..smalling out for 3 weeks right? sad.gif

QUOTE
Chris Smalling will miss England's November friendlies against Spain and Sweden after the Manchester United defender was ruled out for three weeks on Friday with a cracked bone in his foot.

Smalling, 21, is believed to have suffered the injury in the Champions League tie against Otelul Galati and then aggravated it in the Manchester derby.

He get a straight red, but for preventing a goal scoring opportunity and not because of reckless tackle. So, he only got 1 match ban instead of 3. The 1 match ban is already accounted for in the Carling Cup.

Darren fletcher.. the only time I can actually see him is when he got ragdolled by fellaini... Every match I see the midfield is just.... MEH..... Its been over so many years... still nothing good is implemented... one of the main reason we don't have enough penetration through the middle..

Evans not playing poorly, he was playing inconsistently....he made several god interception and defending; but at the same time made some amateurish bad pass...dunno when will he become more consistent...any way, Fletcher is taking a bit too long to back to his old self sweat.gif

last season's top 6 team: checked
tough away fixtures: Hawthorns, checked; Goodison, checked; Brittania, checked; Anfield, checked; Reebok, checked

I'd say that's a good news, bad news is we are playing quite below our standard atm lol

great performance on first 45min. lovely passes. beautiful cross from Evra for Chico to tap in..
2nd half very bad doh.gif being attacked again n again. having Vidic on the field sure made lots of difference. we defend better n organized.

Evans kena marah dengan Vidic laugh.gif . glad De Gea got cleansheet. great 3 points. hope Cleverley can play next week.

off topic- RVP last goal against chelsea cun gila. good for him n his team.

Yes, straight red card could be either professional foul (1 match) or serious foul play/violent conduct (3 match). Evans's red card for professioanl foul in denying goal scoring chance hence 1 match ban which he served against Aldershot Town. Same goes to Bosingwa.

A couple of questions about assists:

Scenario A.
Rooney fires one from long range. The keeper saves it, however he spills the ball to an oncoming Chicharito who taps it in easily. Does Rooney get an assist?

Scenario B.
Evra runs to the byline and hits a dangerous low cross that flies across the face of the goal. The ball hits a defender and goes into the back of the net. Own goal. Does Evra get an assist?

Mixed injury news for Reds

Tom Cleverley should be available for the Reds' next Barclays Premier League fixture against Sunderland despite being forced off during the 1-0 win at Everton.

The young midfielder made his league return at Goodison after a foot injury but fans will have feared the worst after he hobbled off on 55 minutes.

However, Sir Alex has declared that Cleverley's problem is not too serious and he was taken off as a precaution.

"He's felt his ankle again," the manager told MUTV. "It's nothing serious, just tightness and tiredness. It's his first real game back, although he played on Tuesday [at Aldershot] of course. He should be okay next week and it was an excellent performance from him in the first half."

The news is less good for defender Chris Smalling, though, as the former Fulham man has a fractured toe and faces a month on the sidelines and Ashley Young, who could be missing for a fortnight.

"Smalling has a small fracture on his foot," added Sir Alex. "I think he'll be out for a month and it's unfortunate that one.

"Ashley Young has a toe injury that is not going away so he could be out for a couple of weeks."

its poppy red flower, Remembrance Day in Britain, in November.. its like Hari Pahlawan in Malaysia..

good result, thats what we really good, grinding out the result.

Vidic is a monster of defender. if he's in top form, 1 goal are enough for 3 points.

hopefully Cleverley didnt really injured. our midfield looks more dynamic with him.

i need to watch Chelsea - Arsenal game.. good result for us. 4th position race will be very exciting this season.

anyone notice the live telecast broadcasting pattern this season are bit unusual? they seem want to give a chance to 'lesser' team games to be telecast. 'low -profile' game keep moving earlier /forward for telecast purpose. probably this an affect of huge foreign investors to BPL..

there's no more traditional big 4. but next week former Big 4 (United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea) will be playing at a same time.

i used to watched 3 games BPL back-to-back 3 or 4 years ago. but now, normally United games and rivals are kick off simultaneously. so less football for me. (im not really like to watch replay matches)

funny things last night. remember when one of the ref asst get injured (maybe? dont know whats the problem). United medical doc /team treated him, not the host team.

co -incident? nope, officially we are the same team as the officials tongue.gif

the draw are really good. not Crystal Palace are too weak, but possibly nice route for us.. hopefully can avoid big team in semi if we can navigate quater final.. lets ABU ridicule themselves..

No lah our team is actually FA in disguise mah that's why every decision will favor us, those penalties and red cards against us are just fluke decision whistling.gif

Great scrappy win and a tough opponent in an away game like that. Love it smile.gif
I'll take 1-0 any day. Remember the year when we went like 5-6 games that all ends in 1-0 in our favor? rclxm9.gif

It meant nothing at all. Wikipedia can help you smile.gif Here's some info about the badge

"The current club crest was adopted in 1997, a result of the previous crest being ineligible for registration as a trademark.[Full citation needed] The badge is based on the arms of the city of Manchester, and consists of a shield in front of a golden eagle. The shield features a ship on its upper half representing the Manchester Ship Canal, and three diagonal stripes in the lower half symbolise the city's three rivers – the Irwell, the Irk and the Medlock. The bottom of the badge bears the motto Superbia in Proelio, which translates as Pride in Battle in Latin. Above the eagle and shield are three stars, which are purely decorative."

Sir Alex has faith in squad

Sir Alex remains relaxed in the wake of the derby defeat to City and won't be rushing into the transfer market.

As expected, the manager is retaining faith in his squad after the championship triumph last term and blistering form at the start of the season.

Speaking ahead of the win at Everton, he rejected the suggestion that a reinforcement was needed in midfield.

"I think it's a good squad," he asserted. "We had a bad experience last week but it's not a bad team.

"Everyone builds their own in team in their own image, but we build ours in a different way to other clubs. We always play with wide players, for instance, and that's where we are.

"We know where we're going. We've always reviewed the situation quite well and we've bought well here. In the future, we hope we buy well again or a young player emerges, you never know."

Won't going too well here laugh.gif

Btw, congrats Ole! The club’s most famous player returns to manage them and leads them to their first ever Norwegian championship – in the club’s centenary year!

Chicharito, if you dont always play shoulder to shoulder United could score more. You can see 5-6 offisides during the weekend  sad.gif

QUOTE(khelben @ Oct 31 2011, 11:21 AM)
I noticed that many of those offsides were because his team mates spotted him a little too slow hehe.

agreed with khelben...chica offside is bcos his team mates late in releasing the ball...fletch n roon play as the playmaker...the one who shud be creative in making those thru pass...but its always a lil late...they need to see where chica was before they make the pass...but the like of scholesy that we missed...he has awareness second to none...n clev always make that one touch thru pass to release striker that let welbeck n chica always gonna make a run thru defender...that make a lot of different...thats what we been missing in united midfield...like SAF said...park n welbeck make a gud combination one-two passes...cos park always n always adapt to player around him that makes him can play with anyone in the team...unlike some player that we hav that only play with one dimension n difficult/take times to adjust n adapt to the team play...his workrate makes him can compliment any team mate he play with...he play for the team a lot with his hardwork lung bursting run...the keyword is HARDWORK FOR THE TEAM SAKE...

rooney once had it abundace in his belly...maybe i think he burn out a bit after a long time in the league...he n a lot of the older lads need to hav a gud rest to find their hunger for the game once again...they need to reconfigure their passion...seriously i think...after 3-5 season of playing top class n league...u will feel jaded...we r human after all...SAF is the master in making those desire alway in top notch...look at what he did to giggsy...thats why we r in safe hand...

just my 2 cents...GLORY GLORY...

The centre-back, 30, said: “It was important to show the 6-1 didn't affect the players and I think we showed that at Everton. It was important to defend like a team and get back to playing as a team. In the last 20 minutes against City we didn't do that. That's why we were disappointed. But since then we've come back to the way we used to play. When you lose a derby, especially by that scoreline, it is difficult to take — but we have shown character.”

Rafael close to Manchester United return after shoulder injury

QUOTE
Defender Rafael could return from three months out with a shoulder problem when Manchester United's reserves face Everton on Thursday.

The Brazilian, 21, needed surgery on his shoulder in August.

His return would be a significant boost for Ferguson after Chris Smalling was ruled out for a month with a fractured foot.

Ferguson said: "It was a big operation and we hope we can fit a game in for him, maybe the next reserve game."

he is probably going to either waste his skills in teams like chelsea, liverpool or city.
perhaps arsenal would be a better destination for him.
i don't see him fitting in our system with morrison, pogba and cleverley being blooded this season.
if we're buying anyone in january it is for experience not potential.
like the stop-gap measure SAF did by getting blanc before rio and vidic bloom.

"You'd look back now and think it was pennies but at the time all those signings represented a lot of money and that brings a pressure all of its own, I think," Pallister says. "Because of the amount of cash that was spent you would expect some kind of instant success. Fortunately we did win the FA Cup and that gave the chairman a bit of relief, and gradually we reached the holy grail of winning the title."

So are we like chelsea n City Back then? We spent to success?

we was a biggest spender in 90s.

but spending without a right man in charge it'll get u nowhere. ask Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and Blackburn (they won PL once, but failed to build the success from there). they are big spenders too in 90s, but all relatively failed (or failed to rival our dominance)

Fulham at certain point in 2000s spent big, but failed. Spurs always spent big through 2000s, but they got 4th place at their best.

these teams spent probably spent as much as us at various points. the huge different is, we spent right and enjoyed the fruits. more success, means we can continue to spend big.

Chelsea and City are different level of spenders. i dont want to bad talk about that much, but i dont mind to see my club have as much money as them (with our current setup)

well a clearance is a clearance, and we certainly cant give a corner kick since that way dangerous then them getting the ball and starting all over.its better for them to ditch the balls out of our danger zone as far as possible then holding position/ball /or passing to a team mate at no mans land.beside, try looking past the score line.we defended that way due to the nature of that game and trust me it wont be the last.weve known for those 1-0 and as the gaffer puts it "its the stuff of champions" BUT we wont enter a game gunning for a 1-0, but if thats the score line ensuring 3 pts then who are we to say otherwise.

Chicharito: A goal is a goal

QUOTE
Javier Hernandez isn't concerned about how he hits the net - as long as he keeps scoring for United.

The 'Little Pea' has yet to net from outside the box for the Reds, sparking comparisons with another of the club's great penalty-box predators, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutch hitman famously took 138 matches to score from outside the area - in a 3-1 victory at Charlton in 2005 - and none of Hernandez's 24 goals has been scored from long distance - even though he smashed some real belters during his time at Chivas.

After getting on the end of Patrice Evra's cross to notch the winner at Everton on Saturday, the 23-year-old has no reason to start looking to do something more spectacular and remains single-minded when it comes to firing the bullets for the champions.

Hernandez was asked whether he thinks he can bag a long-range goal this season during an exclusive interview with this month's Inside United.

"You never know!" he replied. "I think part of the reason I haven’t done that yet is because of the instructions I receive from Sir Alex.

"My job is play very high, right on the last man. To be honest, I don’t mind how I score goals – whether or not you score from one metre or from the halfway line, it counts the same. A goal is a goal."

Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney, Nani on Ballon d'Or list

QUOTE
Wayne Rooney and Nani have been named on the 23-man shortlist for the 2011 FIFA Ballon d'Or, while boss Sir Alex Ferguson is on the World Coach of the Year list.

The Reds won their 19th league title earlier this year and lost out in the final of the Champions League to Barcelona.

Seven members of the Barca side which claimed a Europe and Primera Division double were named on the list.

The achievement was recognised with Eric Abidal, Dani Alves, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, David Villa and Xavi all nominated for the award, while summer signing Cesc Fabregas has also been included on the list.

The winner is chosen by the captains and head coaches of national teams within FIFA as well as by international media representatives selected by France Football, on December 5.

Madrid were also well represented with five nominees - Karim Benzema, Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Xabi Alonso.

The shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2011 is:

Eric Abidal (France), Sergio Aguero (Argentina), Karim Benzema (France), Iker Casillas (Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Dani Alves (Brazil), Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon), Cesc Fabregas (Spain), Diego Forlan (Uruguay), Andres Iniesta (Spain), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Muller (Germany), Nani (Portugal), Neymar (Brazil), Mesut Ozil (Germany), Gerard Pique (Spain), Wayne Rooney (England), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Luis Suarez (Uruguay), David Villa (Spain), Xabi Alonso (Spain), Xavi (Spain).

The shortlist for the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men's Football 2011:

Vicente Del Bosque (Spain/Spain national team), Sir Alex Ferguson (Scotland/Manchester United), Rudi Garcia (France/Lille), Pep Guardiola (Spain/Barcelona), Jurgen Klopp (Germany/Borussia Dortmund), Joachim Low (Germany/Germany national team), Jose Mourinho (Portugal/Real Madrid), Oscar Tabarez (Uruguay/Uruguay national team), Andre Villas-Boas (Portugal/Porto, Chelsea), Arsene Wenger (France/Arsenal).

Cleverley set to miss two games

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Tom Cleverley is likely to miss Manchester United's next two games due to an ankle injury.

Cleverley initially damaged ankle ligaments against Bolton Wanderers in early September and the midfielder made his comeback in last week's Carling Cup win at Aldershot Town.

The England hopeful started Saturday's Premier League victory at Everton, but was forced off at Goodison Park early in the second half.

He sat out training on Tuesday morning and has been ruled out of United's UEFA Champions League tie with Otelul Galati on Wednesday evening.

Ferguson is keen not to take any risks with the 22-year-old and is also likely to leave Cleverley out of his plans for Saturday's game against Sunderland.

"Tom won't play tomorrow," said the United manager.

"It is not serious. He got a little tweak on Saturday but we have to take the long view.

"We need to make sure he will be available for a long period, rather than play him again and the decision comes back to haunt us, so I think he will miss the Saturday game also."

Rio no longer 'first choice'

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson admits Rio Ferdinand will have to tailor his game, but is confident the defender still has a big part to play at Manchester United.

Ferdinand has made over 360 appearances for the Premier League champions since joining from Leeds United in 2002, but has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

However, when fit, the former England captain was one half of a formidable pairing with Nemanja Vidic at the heart of United's defence and helped the club to win a record-breaking 19th title last season.

His role as a first choice, though, is now under threat after Chris Smalling moved to Old Trafford from Fulham in 2010 and was followed through the door by fellow England rookie Phil Jones this summer.

Ferguson's decision to drop Ferdinand for Saturday's win at Everton, on the back of the 6-1 thrashing by Manchester City, has fuelled speculation about his future at the club.

The former West Ham United youngster, who turns 33 next week, will replace the suspended Vidic for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie at home to Otelul Galati.

But, while Ferguson is keen to retain Ferdinand for the long term, he suggested that the stopper is not an automatic choice in his team.

When asked if Ferdinand and Vidic are his first-choice pairing when fit, Ferguson said on Sky Sports News: "What I explained to Rio the other day is simply this: That we have two young centre-halves coming through and I'm have very happy to have four of them, and I hope to keep the four of them for a long time.

"Rio is almost 33 now and obviously he has lost a yard of pace he had five years ago. That doesn't mean to say he can't tailor his game in a different way.

"Whereas he used to rely on his pace, he doesn't do that now, he can't do that now, that's obvious.

"We've all faced that deciding moment in your career when you realise you have to change your game. I did it myself as a player when I lost that real sharpness and tailored my game differently.

"Rio will do the same and he'll be fine. He will still play a big part for us."

Last night I watched the League Cup replay vs Aldershot. I pity Berba. He really holds he ball well, and track back to help midfield. It is like watching a Rooney on Zen.

Btw, Diouf is one player I do not understand of his role. On loan, he is the main player. Now back, he played as left midfield, in League Cup?

Well, if SAF said so, it must be right.

What's not to understand? He's a third choice striker, so SAF can't even find a striker's role for him to play in his reserve team so he plays anywhere that's available. In this case it was the left attacking midfielder position that Rooney has also played in previously.

left midfield obviously wasn't his position, while Leeds match was only his first start of the season, so we cannot comment on anything yet..but from what we can see so far, yeah, he's not that good enough, yet

and for the Otelul game...i think we will see Rafael in action?

Lindegaard

Rafael/Smalling--Evans--Ferdinand--Evra/Fabio

Nani--Anderson--Carrick--Park

Rooney--Welbeck

again its too hard to predict nowadays what SAF has in his mind lol

Yup, it is evident when every time any European teams playing against any English teams, the refereeing biases-ness always leans more towards the those European team, coz if they don't, the players from these european teams will frequently limp away off the pitch.

Just recently Vidic got red carded for an offense that seems acceptable in the BPL.

that had been the strategy opponents used against us in recent matches, and with great success

its at Old Trafford ffs, its either we are too kind to Otelul, or we played with complacency, or we're just not playing good enough

btw Benfica 1-1 Basel, so next game we beat Benfica, we'll win the group

Hmm, now we are tied with Benfica with 8, while Basel is at 5.

If we win our next match against Benfica, we are almost certainly guaranteed a top spot in the group. A draw is also good enough for qualification, provided we avoid defeat at Basel on last day.

the new Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney.. hopefully he'll not stay there, we need our top player on his best position.. though he played quite well last night, and according to SAF, he's our best player.

overall, very average performance. defenders made few numbers of mistakes but luckily the opponent didnt punish it. DDG made one crucial save. all forwards not played well.

but 3 points are all matters. after THAT game, i think i take any kind of win with both hands. its about steadying the ship and regain confidence. consistency and style will come later..

i thought rooney is our best box-to-box player, he is certainly better at supplying the ball rather than finish it himself all of these years, just like in community shield earlier this season where he made an outstanding midfield trio with ando and cleverley with young nani welbeck created fluid attacking upfront. since we have a real finisher chicha and other strikers like berba owen welbeck, i'd prefer to see his energy will be in the position it is needed the most.

Rooney as a CM, in 3-men midfielders, i'll say YES..

in our usual 4-4-2 (Rooney pair up front another striker), Rooney is all over the places. he track back, box-to-box, at flanks, and penalty box. so the system are reverting from 4-4-2, to 4-5-1, 4-3-3, or 4-4-1-1. so basically he's the 3rd CM /pseudo /fake CM.

but as a CM, in 2-men midfielders, i'll say NO.. especially against decent opposition. last night, i considered our opponent are minnows. so experimental are allowed and we lack of option last night. only Park or Pogba (or Jones) are the other options.

really? again who will fill in his shoes at the front then?he can still track back, do box to box when he's playing at striker position (which i insist is his best position), while being threatening inside the box, with his shift into deeper CM role, we lost that kind of threat up front

its just sad to see we need a ST to play at CM (sacrificing Rooney yet again)

we hv more option upfront at the moment. the change is a temporary thing only. consider that we are playing smaller side at home i think its fair enaugh for rooney to be playing at CM.

wont call it a sacrifice.. more of bringing out the best out of a team instead of best from individual only

this, just a temporary solution.. options are limited ATM. SAF got Rooney, or Pogba or Park, or Jones in CM spot.. he clearly stated he want to rest Fletcher. while Carrick and Giggs are injured.

so, its the best for the team..

i think SAF also hinted Park will play this Saturday.. Young is injured, so we can expect makeshift XI, like Liverpool or Everton game. not sure the status of our CMs. only Anderson fully fit.

Seriously, pass pass pass but no creativity at all. Just like the clueless Barca shakehead.gif What happen to football nowadays huh? cry.gif

QUOTE(alowie @ Nov 3 2011, 09:56 AM)
i thought rooney is our best box-to-box player, he is certainly better at supplying the ball rather than finish it himself all of these years, just like in community shield earlier this season where he made an outstanding midfield trio with ando and cleverley with young nani welbeck created fluid attacking upfront. since we have a real finisher chicha and other strikers like berba owen welbeck, i'd prefer to see his energy will be in the position it is needed the most.
*
he is our best player...no doubt...but he need to move the ball faster when play in the middle cos when he got the ball...at least 3 player come to hunt him down simply bcoz he is our best player...they just wont let him hav it his way...game against everton n otelul...he loose the ball in the middle of the park so many times...he cant shake of the opponent well...hence i think he shud move the ball faster...make simple pass n one touch football...shake of his marker...come n collect the ball again...by then...he shud be fine...

BTW...i luv to see berba work his socks off...although he tend to loose ball n challenge n frustrated him...but he keep going...thats the way he can push for the first 11 starting line up...

QUOTE(dundermifflin @ Nov 3 2011, 12:43 PM)

*
couldnt agree more...

QUOTE(dlct87 @ Nov 3 2011, 07:42 PM)
Barca can pass, pass, pass until into the opponent's penalty box, we pass, pass, pass, pass back to DDG doh.gif  doh.gif
*
like i said it times n times again...we dont finish our move...it really frustrating to see...it gives the opponent confidence as they see we keep going back to our GK...they r not threaten by us...thats why i always suggest to hav a go at their goal...finish the move...go for the kill...GO FOR THE KILL!!!

quoted from Rooney's tweet "@RavelMorrison49 might come sooner than u think!!!!!". But seriously I'm excited for Pogba to come as well!

edit: lol I misinterpreted his tweet, apparently Ravel walked out of the reserve fixture and tweeted 'Pisss take'

a good one from utd forum laugh.gif

For the gullible people who think otherwise, the real conversation is this.....

Morrison.... 'Cant wait until the end of the season' ( cant wait to fk off from this club, ive had a *** full)

Rooney.... 'might come sooner than you think (the way your acting, your off in january son)

Morrison..... 'jamaica with Daryl in July' ( oh ***, what the fk have i just said)

apparently Morrison is still showing signs of immaturity, playing at a club the stature of United require a lot of patience as the coaches will give you chance if you're good enough, AND has the right attitude, throwing tantrum like this when you've just given 1 20mins cameo of first team is way overboard....hopefully he will mature up asap, and SAF will definitely make sure he understands that

as for the twitter banter, i would just take it by the word, nothing more than that

Anderson rated doubtful

QUOTE
Anderson has emerged as a doubt for United's Barclays Premier League clash with Sunderland on Saturday.

The Brazilian midfielder was substituted during the second half of the 2-0 win against Otelul Galati and could miss the encounter with Steve Bruce's Black Cats, joining Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Tom Cleverley on the sidelines.

Skipper Nemanja Vidic is available for domestic duty despite his European suspension but the boss is waiting for a clearer picture of the injury situation following the Champions League victory.

"Vidic will be back but maybe Anderson is the one player who picked up an injury last night," said the boss. "We'll see what he's like. He could be doubtful.

"There will be no returns for Young, Smalling or Cleverley though."

There is no update on Michael Owen after he was injured during the lead-up to Antonio Valencia's opening goal on Wednesday night.

"Michael injured his thigh when he made the run across the front post for the first goal," explained Sir Alex. "It's a killer for him. He started the season well, he's been training terrifically. His two performances in the League Cup have been great. He made the goal last night, no doubt about that. I hope he's not out for too long. We've assessed him this morning, he's had a scan but we don't have any results from that yet."

Michael Carrick returned to full training this week but Darren Fletcher wasn't available for the Galati game.

I still think Berba has a larger role to play after Christmas till the end of season

for now, it must be Roo-Chicha/Welbeck

Maybe Jones-Fletcher in the midfield

United fear rising star Pogba could be lured by Italian giants in January

QUOTE
Manchester United youngster Paul Pogba is a January target for both AC Milan and Inter.

The French midfielder, 18, is keen to weight up his options after refusing to sign a new deal at Old Trafford and both Serie A clubs are looking to sign him on a pre-contract, according to The Mirror.

United want to hang onto Pogba, but fear he will be tempted by the money on offer in Italy.
Heading out? Paul Pogba could be set to leave Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson had Pogba on the bench for the Champions League clash win over Otelul Galati in midweek, but Italian sources believe his head may be turned by bigger wages and first-team football.

And with the midfielder available for a small fee, he is an attractive option for both Milan clubs.

Paul Pogba

I don't know if this story true or not..but please SAF and David Gill please give him good deals.. nod.gif ...we don't want great prospect to go away for FREE...

well probably it is true he is unhappy.
some players just need some financial happiness then they be okay like rooney.

Added on November 5, 2011, 10:32 pmbut the front is so versatile, Rooney, Nani basically can roam around, so does Park..and Evra starts too, hopefully the tragedy won't affect him too much
