QUOTE(hye @ Mar 24 2013, 10:01 PM)
I never implied such it was possible but instead directed to the method known. Success rate was 0%, nobody did it before not LHDN is interested to entertain anyone. The GST problem was aggravated by agents severely impacted to the GST ruling when card applications dived as compared to before. (This will continue as I still hear card agents peddling to date their credit cards with so called GST "waivers" which is misleading, false advertising and unethical)

The problem is actually both ways - public are still spoiled by free cards, freebies (in the forms of gifts & free cash) and in the aftermath rant when they are so called "cheated" by the agents or banks. Unfortunately, the public has a very long way to go before the emergence of a more financially matured society emerges.

All the while GST was by law a requirement to pay.
By your story, you knew it but still you want to attempt not to pay it by coming in here and asking.  doh.gif
I had so many people reacting people should share when I told them off - This section of the forum is not a place to share how to break laws. Contrary to the maybe some other sections of LYN where they are free to talk about anything they like - truth or fiction.

Well ~ i guess i have used to wrong word ~ i shouldn't say i want bank to WAIVE ~ i should say i want bank to ABSORB it.

I heard there are some banks willing to absorb it ~ as a matter of fact HSBC is absorbing it, it juz u cant redeem rewards wit ur points anymore ~

btw ~ I'm not saying tat u implied anything ~ i'm saying is another moderator asked me to call gov department ~

tats y i asking him how he did it ~ he might have a way tat works? i dunno ~

i always presumed when i was directed to a known method, it is atleast > 50% success rate ~ by asking i could increase it abit ~

i don think i'm breaking the law tat i wanted the bank to relieve my GST and still i'm sorry if u think tat i shouldn't ask here ~

Technically you pay for it yourself because you still need to use your hard earned rewards points to offset it.

Because there is just no way for the bank to waive it because as many have pointed out, banks are simply the collecting agents. And no, no one has tried it, not that we know of anyway. But if you want to try to have the credit card service tax waived, then you do have to call directly to the place that the collected money will ultimately go to.

several posts have been deleted. guess a lot more in the past.

actually, i dun understand why it's deemed such a sensitive issue.

all kinds of people get varying discounts and perks byuing various things from different vendors all the time. even properties!

what's the big deal with truthful comments on the heart of the issue about rm50 that the posts have to be deleted? blink.gif

ok, i risk this being deleted as well. if so, never mind - will never visit cards section anymore.

was surprised my earlier post was deleted too.
it's definitely not something illegal.
as long as the banks appreciate my business, and they are willing to do it for me, what's wrong with me sharing my experiences here?
strange.

To reprise, banks paying your GST is illegal, but giving you a credit/rebate/bonus reward points that you would not get had you not call up the bank to request for GST offset is not illegal. Banks do not have to justify to authorities their reward programmes, its all marketing/promotional matters. Correct me with facts if I'm wrong.

that was precisely my point.
it's the banks doing it. not us the users. some of us might have called up to terminate a card but somehow it's the banks who insist and persisted.
if i am unworthy of the bank, do you think they would do me any favours at all?
and bank does have a retention program. even if you use zero amount on the cards, they would still love to retain you.
again speaking from experience.
note that i'm not asking forummers to break the law.
am only saying we should let the banks decide whether they wish to retain you or not. as simple as that.
we 'do not know' what and how they attempt to persuade us to maintain with them.

But gst comes tog with annual fees. No? Gst is charged on top of annual fees, replacing the service tax. So gst and annual fees come hand in hand.

Hello. It is NOT illegal for banks to pay the gst. This is called absorbing gst as part of their cost. Meaning they pay on behalf of us. Remember, GST has inclusive and exclusive. So it is not a problem.
