Tough decision as to what to do with the money released from Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat (5%).
Place it in one month FD and pray that longer term better offers will come soon, or immediately lock it into long term (6 or 12 months) deposit now - thinking that interest rate will come down due to world wide downturn.
*
split your fd into two group. 1 month and 6 or 12 mths. can only optimize not maximize as we dont have future info

Just to update you guys that the Ambank promotion of 3.9% has ended prematurely. sad.gif

Added on June 4, 2012, 3:45 pm
Me & wifey don't have a kid yet, so we're not eligible for this promotion. sad.gif
*
Mighty Weekend started with opening up kid account. But the rule has changed a few months back. You open your own saving account. In my earlier post, i write saving account but didnt refer to kid's account.

Yourself - saving account RM 20. FD max RM50000 , 3 mths for 4%
Your wife - saving account RM20. FD max RM 50000, 3 mths for 4%

A total of RM100,000.

But RM50k deposit has to be done in one go. No top up allowed.

Noted with thanks. I guess I was being misinformed by the OCBC CSR. Going through the link that I provided in my previous post, can you help me confirm if the below example is still applicable? As in, you are only eligible to open a Mighty Weekend FD account per savings / current / unit trust account? notworthy.gif
*
OCBC CSR sometimes not aware on their own products.

I have opened on Mighty weekend
1) mighty saver for kid and opened a FD RMXX 3 mths for 4%
2) open saving account RM20 and opened another FD for RMXX, 3 mth for 4%

All these are done on two separate weekends

Plan to
1) buy unit trust and open FD for 3 mths for 4% since AmBank offer has ended.

All these can only be done on Mighty Weekend. Earlier it was allowed on any day except (1)

Thanks for the clarification. This means that I only have 2 options (savings / unit trust) until I have a child of my own. Thanks again! notworthy.gif

I'll pay a visit to Bank Rakyat to check out their very own FD package, which in my opinion sounds pretty good compared to the other major banks out there. smile.gif

or open a current account which I didnt encourage coz it needs slightly more money than saving

Unit trust or Ambond (if not mistaken)

No deposit in CASA required. For 12 mths, the interest rate is 3.55%.  If you are 50 and above, you get an extra 0.05% on top of the promotional rate for 6 mths and  12 mths. thumbup.gif
*
just called UOB and was told the additional 0.05% is on top of board rate not on promotional rate for senior citizen. however for 12 mths fd the promotional rate for senior citizen is 3.6%

Only condition, need money. Above 50k can ask additional 0.05%. Can get some free gifts too.
Some of mine already matured n got paid exactly as mentioned.  rclxms.gif

All my FDs with OCBC are printed PIDM, even those above the limit. Wonder whether can held them liable in case anything happens ??  tongue.gif
*

there is also another condition stated that max protection is Rm 250k. thus for those who hv more than rm 250k FD, any additional amount on top of the limit is probably more risky than Bank Rakyat

Hi guys I just got back and called UOB to check any offers and the guy on the phone did not mention above but instead told me that they have promo for Senior at 3.6% 12 months and another offer for PB customers if their birthday falls in June doh.gif . I will drop by UOB later to confirm as I have couple FD matured last week. But I guess will just transfer the funds to OCBC since their FD offer expiring end of the month.

Too bad missed last week OCBC Mighty Saver promo.

Alliance Bank got promo 50:50 ratio 4% FD and Unit Trust.
*
OCBC 1:1 ratio 5% FD and unit trust

Update on the OCBC Mighty Weekend FD Promotion:

I've paid the main branch in Penang a visit for the 2nd time in a week, this time armed with the T&C that was obtained from the OCBC website itself & yet, they still insist that it's only meant for those with a kid. I even asked for the superior in some closed room to come out & clarify but still they insisted the same. I guess I'll just give up & look somewhere else. sad.gif
*
sorry to hear your case. but I just called ocbc, beach st, Penang mighty weekend promotion still on even though you don't hv a kid. myself did enjoy the 4% FD by opening a saving account. for Penang beach st branch, July mighty weekend date is not fixed as first sat is Penang holiday and second sat is national public holiday.

since UOB and ocbc promotion end June and ocbc mighty weekend will be a month from now, I plan to place one month fd at UOB to enjoy the 3.2 % and when mature in July then open mighty weekend account.

*
UOB, ocbc, public....those banks which does not link fd interest payment to saving account or on the other hand , some banks make it a condition to open saving account in order to enjoy the promote rate like the std chartered, hong Leong, Am etc

Hi,
Anyone try this HSBC Amanah, Kota Damansara FD?
I am currently Advance E-checking account with HSBC, according to their needs, fresh fund of Rm50K  and RM500 for openning a new account.
1. Can I transfer RM50K from my HSBC account to another bank, and issue a cheque back to HSBC amanah to open the account and FD? Will they pick it up?

2. Are they open in Saturday?
*

most bank will take it as fresh fund as long as the cheque is not from the bank which you are going to deposit. HSBC should be the same or you can issue a cheque RM51k

better check with the bank as not all banks practiced the same way....following was my experience

Hong Leong Bank - they need me informed them first how much fund is coming in first then they will monitor and take it as fresh fund. Not sure have they changed the practice

And for those of you who wants to have FREE monthly fee accounts in Australia click here to find out more.
like I mentioned above, minimum deposit RM200K (not necessary all in Time Deposits). And if wish know more about Privilege Priority Premier Banking Accounts and benefits (more terms of credit cards) for Alliance, Citibank, HLB, HSBC, RHB, SCB and UOB, click here. OCBC PB really useless, no extra benefit at all but you get a free gift.
*
OCBC Penang branch premier customer service is even slower than the normal counter service. This is my personal experience...no car park facility and service suck....Citi Gold is still the best....15sen for banker cheque and OCBC charged RM2.15 for a banker cheque

Bro, since when OCBC charge RM2.15? As of last year, prior to me having PB with OCBC, they don't charge a single sen for cheques, yes more than 1, if the cheques are in my name from a single FD receipt. Now I have Current Acct with OCBC and I'll just transfer the amount into it.

Same for Alliance Bank - free too without PB.

Yah, sometimes it is faster to go to general banking hall for depositing and withdrawing our FDs.
UOB charge RM2.15 even if you are a PB customer.

*
Last month I withdrawn my FD from OCBC and add on some money from OCBC saving account, they charged RM2.15 with the cheque on my name even though I am premier customer.

OCBC Rentas charged RM9. I cant remember which bank i went to recently charged RM7 for Rentas

Bro, when you last withdraw?
Noted and updated list.
Next time don't add and see what happens. Or why don't you call your RM and ask why you were charged RM2 service fee whereas some are not.
So we got conflicting reports for OCBC. As for UOB, I was charged RM2.15 this month, another conflicting report and I got PB with UOB too  doh.gif

gsc, if you don't mind, go check the red receipt for the UOB and see if there is a Service Fee of RM2.

*
Confirm UOB charged RM0.15 coz today my FD due and used UOB banker cheque to open 3 mth FD at OCBC. I know UOB is 3.53%, 0.03% better than that of OCBC but for fresh fund only.

someone may say, it is off topic again, by the way, I am not trying to get more count tongue.gif

getting rm170+ is better than sitting in the saving account or current account earning nothing..

not sure is it the right place to ask, with the government intention to raise the full EPF withdrawal age to 60, is it better off to withdraw all now for those reaching 55?

who knows when come 60, government will make it only monthly withdrawal??? vmad.gif
