bro chuahcs79,

will this MR3420 improve 3G signal of my ZTE MF680 ???
*
router is for sharing connection easier,

for signal, u need to tweak your modem TX power,

or use reflecting signal method ,

and find best spot in your area,

best signal = dont guarantee best speed

best speed = dont guarantee best signal notworthy.gif

TQ bro chuahcs79 for your kind sharing

i bought ZTE MF680 (tweaked) by Bro Blacktubi

now just thinking of getting this router

V2 is latest ? good?
*
well,

if u are just want to plug in your modem and direct share the connection & dont mind the TP LINK stock firmware at all, then of course V2 will be good due to support 3G & 4G both

while if u know a little bit about openwrt ( linux ), then u might want to get V1~V1.3 version, as V2 dont support openwrt firmware for now,.

depends on personal preferences,

for me after i try both TP LINK & Openwrt firmware, i would rather stay with Openwrt notworthy.gif

just my humble opinion

so u mean TP Link V2 stock firmware is slow?
*
i not yet try V2, so far i try V1 & V1.3,..

the stock firmware have a few issue here and there in above version ,

so i will stick with V1 or V1.3 in my personal point of view notworthy.gif

so you suggest i buy another router to see the dBm?  biggrin.gif
*
if u want to see RSSI,

just direct plug your usb modem in your computer usb port..

for me i prefer consistency and stable,.. so signal doesn't matter much to me nod.gif

in your exp, how many % of the signal strength are consider ok?
*
depends on my area that which base station i am connected,

sometimes 29~34% i can get decent speed

while sometimes 65~80% i get crap speed,

distance on how far is the base station = the % in signal,

also depends on UMTS900 band or UMTS2100 band,.

as UMTS900 band frequency signal stronger in penetration object so indoor will get more % than UMTS2100 band

sometimes connect to the nearest base station doesnt mean u will get best speed if that nearest base station congested

after using this TP LInk router a while, u will know which base station when u see the %,..

now i am using Openwrt firmware, so no more signal % or RSSI,..

purely stable and no worries on which base station

i cant see any of the info in openwrt, so dunno signal strength
*
i know my speed with openwrt is super stable, so that's is good enough for me,.

signal % is not main issue,. as long as stability consistency is towards 100% nod.gif

I agree with this.  Usually i just get highest like 30% signal percent at router and lowest normally around 20% only.  But i can get 200kbps download speed using my celcom 1m pack with umg1831

I wonder can i set TX to 33 on UMG?
*
u can try to set , if is not working well u always can set it back to original value 23

*
try every number until u reaach 33, u will know whether improve or decrease performances

then pick best number that fit your modem notworthy.gif

found your answer -> here

10. To check signal strength run:

CODE
# gcom -d /dev/ttyUSBy   (where y is the appropriate tty port number)

Please note that u cant run 'gcom -d /dev/ttyUSBy' when u have 3-wan connected. You need to stop the 3g-wan from GUI then run 'gcom -d /dev/ttyUSBy'
*
oh, i see
thanks for your tips, really helpful,

so must Disconnect the 3g-wan connection first before using that commad notworthy.gif
