Hi All,

Looking for a band to jam with is tough. It's even tougher to find one that does it purely for fun (not a full-time job) and even if you did find one, the schedules don't fit with all the members, especially those who have a day job like me.

Most often than not, we give up looking for one and just play/practice with the comfort of our homes. What if you can change that? What if you would be able to jam with your fellow musicians without gathering them in one place, that you could learn and play at your own pace? What if you will be given a chance to improve yourself, would you take it?

If you would take that chance, please read on.

So I am wondering if any of you here are interested working on a collaboration project covering songs of our choice. I am a noob rhythm guitarist myself and I have cover some songs for practice biggrin.gif . Might as well be serious about it and if I can't join/get some people in a band, then why not do it in our own leisure time, wherever and whenever.

Basically, this is what we would need to start the project:

1. Choice of songs to cover, or any original songs would do too
2. Able to use Ableton (i.e. Live 8) or any DAW that would suit you best, this including your choice of VST (i.e. Guitar Rig 4, Amplitube) through an audio interface (i.e. Line6, Behringer, etc.). Why need a DAW and VST? Because this will standardize our recordings and editing the final work should be easier, aside from the better quality of recordings.
3. Able to use Sony Vegas for video recording and editing. If we choose to do purely audio, then this is not necessary. But if you're not shy to show-off your skills and put on youtube, this will be handy. For more on this: Youtube Collaboration

And this is what we would do:
1. Using the choice of song, we would build the parts one by one.
2. You record your part and send to each members.
3. Each will have their own turn to put up their ideas into the song (more improvisation is better).
4. Each work will be collated and final editing will be done. Final copy will be sent to each for approval or if changes will be done if needed.

This is for fun purposes only and as a way to learn from fellow musicians. So any of you who have a spare time, kindly PM me and start this.
Imagine if we do a full band cover, that should be epic!

This is our first collaboration cover:

Next Cover: NONE. On hiatus due to work commitments

Note:
1. This is for fun purposes only (non-commercial).
2. No copyright infringement is intended for the songs that are chosen for covers.

Thank you for your time. Rock on! cool.gif

Not really br0, as long as you can record cleanly, should be no problem.
You can directly plug your guitar on your pc (with the adaptor of course). Have you tried to use any , like Amplitube 3, Guitar Rig 4, Audacity, FL Studio or Ableton Live?

Deadfrog suggested these songs, and I think Its kinda cool.

- Jar Of Hearts (rock version) by Christina Perri
- Secrets (rock version) by One Republic
- Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance
- Mama Mia (rock version) by Abba

Now we got a bassist, rhythm g, lead g.. now any drummer and vocalist interested?

Little Ice, that would be awesome. If we are to cover "Secrets", can you play the cello part in violin? it would be a little different, so its niceee

ok,1st level finish.ive learn how to record cleanly flex.gif still dont know how to mix and to use the effects.but i have a bit of confidence in joining in now biggrin.gif hope u can teach me here and there about this amplitube  icon_idea.gif
*
Hey bro, good job!

If you are using amplitube, you can choose the built-in presets in there. You can see at the bottom there are 1 to 4 tracks. Usually I load the song (or backing track) at the first slot (numbered 1), for this you need to turn off the amplitube effects so it wont get messed up (theres an icon at the very bottom, farthest right). And for the guitar, you can use slot number 2, turn on the effects icon and choose a preset. You can also just record straight away using clean channel, and at playback you can experiment with the presets. Once the choose the desired preset you can export the tracks. Oh btw, if you have time, download also Ableton. This is easier to use during recording. You will need the Amplitube as a plugin instead (me, i refer guitar rig 4 as plugin). Il take screenshots later and show it to you.

You can also check the tutorial at youtube:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

For our first collaboration, we will cover 'Secrets' as this is an easy song to play with.

Song details:
Tempo: 148 bpm (as per original), ensure to use metronome always when recording.

Key: D Major, with chords progression D-F#m-Bm-G

Length: 3:55 with proper ending (no fading)

Intro: Violin solo (by 'little ice) will go on for 8 measures followed by vocals (violin plays for another 8 measures.

Guitars:

Rhythm (Dist) and Solo (2 parts) - Me and Deadfrog will work on this, need to discuss the improvisation parts
Bass - More on this later.

Drummer - More on this later. I'm not sure if a drummer can record a clean one using acoustic drum, else we resort to electronic drums since it has a midi output that can be recorded directly to pc. If we can't find one, then we do it using drum software like cakewalk, etc. (prefers acoustic drum). Anyone please?

Vocals - We currently don't have a vocalist, though I can find one. It will be epic if a female will sing this song (note: need to change the song key if ever). Something like this:

Guys, please use this thread to update our progress. If you guys have time, please create account in soundcloud.com so we can put our Work In Progress tracks in there so we can easily share our recordings to each other. This is my channel:

^Depends on the disclaimer type. Anyway, that online DAW looks nice. I'm still waiting reply from my friend whether he can do the drum tracks. I assume the drum and bass lines goes first, then guitar tracks and the vocals last.

Guys, still need a vocalist? this idea seems interesting.
Hi Bro,
You're welcome to join as we currently don't have any vocalist. I was also thinking maybe you can fill in the drums too. Would you be able to have a clean track sample for the drums just like in this drum cover:

QUOTE(deadfrog @ Oct 23 2011, 02:19 AM)
ok... here's my rendition of Secrets by One Republic
Very nice bro! Can you send me the rhythm part track alone?
I'll try to blend in some improvisations as I had put it in my cover:

Oh i mean can you re-record it and share to me? Maybe you can play around with other settings too (i.e. compression, etc) so I only need to adjust the volume thresholds only to make room for the vocals to stand a bit.

We don't have any drummer yet ;(

Sure, that is OK, take your time. Let's give our best shot even if we have to record so many retakes. We should aim for quality, so there's no need to rush things.

Oh i thought you were not interested anymore haha. No problem bro, youre still IN.
Once we have the drum part covered, you're the first to go. Please practice improvisation part for the bass.

QUOTE(nabzblitz @ Oct 24 2011, 07:10 PM)
Err drums is gonna be a problem because my drumming is only so-so. so i'd rather not. hahaha
*
Seems we have a problem for the drum part. I'll see what I can do this weekend, any ideas on what software can we used for the drums ? one that should sound close to acoustic drums. Is cakewalk OK ? Have not tried any yet..

Bro, You're on the wrong thread!! vmad.gif

Deadfrog, listening to Big in Japan - dafuq its a retro! We would need a keyboardist to pull that off, unless you have a great idea if it can be done by guitar. let me know ok?
Unless we make it rock version, totally our own then should be ok. I'll ponder on this more.

Since u guys haven't really decide to which songs to play, may I suggest one?  laugh.gif
The song is called "Your Mistake" by Sister Hazel. Mind you, the title may be misleading, but give it a listen. And yeah, it's a happy song  thumbup.gif
A quote from wiki;
"Their music is characterized by highly melodic tunes and generally optimistic lyrics."

Nice upbeat song, but needs a vocalist good enough not to ruin the song lol

So sorry for the crappy cover, 'terbabas' here and there....not accustomed to the song yet.

Busted around the line "Don't care if critics never jump in line", will always left the "never"...and I terbabas on the final part too, so please excuse me.
*
This is a nice cover, it's definitely your own style rclxms.gif
Anyway, can you record the vocal track alone, without the backing track?

QUOTE(nabzblitz @ Nov 5 2011, 09:31 PM)
Since you guys seem to like to make rock versions of a song, check this out. Hands down, this is the best cover of Adele's song that exists.

*
I agree with you bro.
Hmm, have you record the vocal part of Secrets? Im thinking maybe you and Kaoru can make a duet on this (i.e. 1st verse Male, 2nd verse female..)
