the main story for the first book is pretty short and i think could be covered in like 8 episodes or less?

anyways after reading the novel i can understand why they follow chronological order cause after u finish the first book, u would lose some interest in the side story which are pretty well written and wanting to knw more about the rest of the main story...

there are quite some major different (mostly in detail) between the anime and the light novel. i would suggest picking up the light novel once the first main story end

You need to read each novel to actually know the ending for something that happens in previous ones. Even in volume 4 it kept explaining what really happened in Vol 1

The anime uses alot of side stories from volume 2..wonder how many episodes this anime will take in the end.

Manga's artwork is a little meh, I stopped halfway while reading about Kirito vs Heathcliff and went straight to the LN. Story seems identical so far.
