http://www.hdtune.com/

it gives u harddisk information (include the buffer cache and SMART status), check bad sector and do benchmark.

another benchmarks software also can be used such as sisoftware sandra, pcwizard and everest.

welcome.

about these harddisks, i cannot tell the best answer yet because i have no recent seagate harddisk to be compared to my WD harddisk in my rig.

but personally i believe WD would be alright after all.

cache?? the more cache, the smother the data can flow..
i've got an uncle working at WD.. so occasionally he give hdd...hehe..
anyway, Maxtor ain that bad, is it?? my dad using a 80GB for the last 2-3 years, so far no problems.. ever since he found out about torrents, the 80GB almost filled up.. now he took my maxtor 80GB, and added to his collection.. luckily my uncle gave me a 120GB.. the thing is, when the PC is on standby, just the fan wirring, its not too noisy, but when the thing on, the hdd starts to get very noisy.. do you guys have any good experience with Samsung??

Just bought myself a new SATA II Seagate 250GB recently for my new rig.

I noticed something though, hopefully u guys can give some comments:

My old Seagate IDE HDD(20,40,80,120GB) were all made in Singapore.
However, my new HDD is Made in China and somemore it says there "for OEM"!!!!

Somehow, i've a feeling being screwed...sweat.gif

What about your HDD? Are they OEM or made in China???

those Seagate 320GB 16MB IDE in my shop are all made in China,
but 320GB 16MB SATA2 all are made in Singapore.

you can double check the serial number under warranty status in Seagate website.
