Added on March 8, 2008, 12:00 ambro Vearn27, 1 more question. im using WD hdd..what is the diagnostic utility should i download from its official website??
*
I did mention from its manufacturer website, check your stuff here: http://support.wdc.com/download/ smile.gif

QUOTE(mypetridish @ Mar 8 2008, 01:35 AM)
do you think it also depends on the way it falls. like if it falls flat on its back or if the tip touches the ground first, etc2

p/s when i asked u about AHCI, i meant that for my raptor on my desktop. i thought that it was too much a hassle

now im reformatting my laptop and im using nlite to include the AHCI driver into the windows installation disc. will continue after my friday prayers
*
No matter how it fall, how high it fall from and also how it landed... all the measure the same... do a throughout diagnostic on your drive tongue.gif ... unless already broken into pieces or leaked, that's another story laugh.gif (you could have dropped it from few storeys if this happened sweat.gif)

It is me or empire23 mentioned about the hassle? For me, I didn't need to do much except slipsteam the SATA drivers into the Windows bootable installation disc and voila ~ it worked without need to install the SATA driver via FFD. Just proceed like how you install Windows into IDE mode HDD, the SATA drivers already loaded along with the Windows CD smile.gif. Instruction wise: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/501772 wink.gif

However, do remember that you will need a fresh installation of Windows if you're migrating from IDE mode to AHCI mode laugh.gif

the plates that hold the magnetic data. it's like a cd, with bits of 0 and 1 written on it. the difference is data is stored magnetically as oppposed to optically on the cd/dvd/bluray/hddvd/laserdisc.

each hard drive has at least one platter. typical desktop hdd has 3, while unique ones have more or less. less is better, but a platter has only so much data density. so lets say the latest ones might have 320 GB/ platter density, so putting one, two, and three platters on a drive can adjust the capacity of the said hard drive.

but with more platters, the chances of mechanical failures increases. ideally, one platter is best: less power consumption, less heat, less noise, less weight, etc.

but SSDs are most handsome, only that macbook air is shit crap. but i digressed.

the one i had was extracted from an old hdd, so it was bound to fail. i didnt need to use any extra power cable.

i also have a 160gb WD passport. i never had any problem getting it recognized in any computer.

nah, it was a deal at officedepot.com for $80. the cheapest DIY i oculd get is $20 (casing) + $85 (160gb hdd)

although the WD passport only has 1 year warranty as oppposed to 5 years by seagate, since im leaving for UK in less than 2 years, i didnt mind too much

Anyone here using the Seagate 500GB 7200.11 32MB SATA2 HDD? I been having numerous problem on it and been troubleshooting for the main culprit and no luck so far sad.gif

Always having disk read error... failed with paging the hdd... iastor error (AHCI & RAID only)... and ntfs error... now I'm reformatting and setting back to SATA IDE mode. Lets see what's next... shakehead.gif
