Yea, silver rounds have higher premium... But the resale should be, nicer?

I've around RM700 and I have nothing to do with it, so planning to buy silver. I ever think of buying few rounds because they look nice. HAHA! But I think I will go for bars first, or maybe mixture of bars and some rounds.
*
You can read my blog on this: Silver Bullion Investor vs Silver Collector

For a start, RM700 should buy you a few bars and coins. Mix it up and buy 1-2 bars, 1-2 coins to get the touch & feel of it!

Another note, try not to mix up the term. Rounds refer to silver bullion in round-shape, without any legal tender. Eg the buffalo, scottssale 1/2 round and scottssale omnia round. Coins refer to silver bullion with legal tender, eg. Maples, Eagles and Pandas smile.gif

When I first started, I bought the whole lot. From 1oz to 10oz to 1kgs, from bars to coins to everything. Thus, I run a store now. Haha laugh.gif

Thanks for your reply notworthy.gif

From what I know, silver rounds are more to collector items... Btw, what do you mean by "legal tender"???

Initially I wish to buy some rounds because they look nice. Haha!

Any silver coins with a monetary value on it is silver coins with legal tender.

Example, Canadian maples has 5 dollars Canadian dollars on it. Eagles has 1 US dollar on it. Even our Kijang Emas 1oz, has RM200 on it. These are legal tender backed by the government of issue. You can legally use 1 dollar American Eagle to buy 1 can of coca cola in the street of US. The only thing is, the metal value are worth more that the figure stamped onto the coins. Nobody with a sane mind would do that biggrin.gif

Added on March 17, 2012, 9:12 amAfter learning and searching for weeks, I come out with these few options. Hope someone can narrow my option or suggest me something...

1oz Australian Koala 2012 / 2011
1oz Canadian Maple 2012 / 2011
1oz American Eagle 2011
1oz Australian Kookaburra 2012

1oz Morgan Bar
1oz APMEX Silver Bar
1oz Sunshine Minting Silver Bar

Which one is a good start?
*
Well, from what I can see RM700 could at least buy you around 6 silver bars with some little cash left.
Basically any low premium silver bar is accepted widely at Malaysia, such as morgan, apmex, sunshine, scottsdale.
Koala and Kooks has collector value while eagle and maple don't seem to have any collector value.
eagle and maple are just normal bullion with unlimited mintage while kooks are 500k mintage.
koala is also unlimited mintage but normally its mintage number hits lower than 500k.
My suggestion would be go for normal bars only. Coins is better to buy in tube, IMO.

There are people claimed that legal tender is easier to liquidate because it's recognized by government.

Greetings everyone, im new here. Im starting interested to invest in silver after reading this thread. But 1 thing in my mind, PAMP Suisse silver bar is far expensive compare to other silver bar. It is wise to invest in PAMP Suisse silver bar? Besides, any suggestion where to buy this kind of bar? ( i mean trust able seller ) Thanks in advance.

IMO, pamp suisse 1oz bar are not meant for investment, it's rather a collectors item.
Premium for the 1oz bar is too high, but its 1kg silver bar are quite affordable and the premium is quite reasonable.
Other normal bars such as scottsdale, sunshine, apmex and etc are more lower in premium.

For sellers, you can refer to page 1.

have to disagree here

Here is my take on rare item vs high premium mass silver vs low premium mass silver silver investment

Rare Item: Numismatic coins, collector coins, limited edition coins (keyword: limited in production quantity)

High Premium: More expensive to buy per Oz. Mass produced. Internationally branded and well recognized.
Examples: Generally any 999 silver coin (America Silver Eagle, Pamp Sussie Bar)

Low Premium: Cheapest way to buy silver, mass produced with little/no artistic value
Examples: Any silver bar, any silver round (1kg bar from Public Gold)

Not quite sure which statement you disagree. hmm.gif
Well, 1oz LF is not limited mintage, so I consider it as a high premium item.
IMO, any high premium items are for collection and not really for Ringgit to silver value.
Eg: Perth Mint 1oz Silver Lunar Dragon normal bullion (NIGHTMARE for everyone, luls)
Well, if you insist that limited mintage is for the rare items, then those examples i listed above are not high premium.

The table you listed is quite useful for the newcomers reference.
But IMO, the "Easy to find buyer" is very subjective, don't think high premium items are as easy as to be sold compared to the low premium items.
Maybe it's because you refer ASE as high premium items, therefore the statement is there.

Just FYI, ASE is not a high premium item. Check their prices at APMEX, ASE is just USD1 more expensive than low premium bars.
(Expensive or not is very subjective and I take USD1 as not so expensive.)

Cheers! smile.gif
