got a question for u guys long term silver investor...

during this drop (~usd 40 to ~usd 30), how much silver have u bought? do u continue practice dollar cost average? or buy additional?
if u are even taking out some of ur reserved cash / emergency fund (or whatever you call that extra cash), how much of that portion in terms of %?

i personally still continue buying, usually i buy 1 kilo per month but during this month i bought 1.5kilo (just additional 0.5 kilo). have yet to touch my reserved cash, but if it drop to 26 again, i would take out small portion of the reserved cash to buy 1 more kilo.

i mean no matter how low the silver is, there is still chance for it to go lower, therefore i dont plan to shoot all the bullet at one go. but of course if the price drop to like usd5, then i would sai lang (show hand) tongue.gif

wonder what u guys do during this "silver sales" and whats ur strategy getting the most out of the fall?

QUOTE(SGKSY @ Oct 1 2011, 11:12 PM)
don't take tax for coin into consideration lah. sometime, buy 1kg coins from distributor is cheaper than buying bar in secondary market. For example,  buying 1kg pamp bar from 1stopgold when spot rate is 40usd , the premium is 15%, that mean average 6 usd per oz. but most of the 1kg coin only have premium of around 4-5 usd per oz. If you can get the coin without tax, why not buy coin ?

last time , i bought gold coin, silver bar, silver coin from gainesville coin, all shipped in one package. but the custom clerk(i think they want to save time) only use the tax code for gold coin to apply for all items i bought. Then i got my silver coins tax free.....

any local seller providing 1kg dragon coin with ready stock?

collected some silver bars from MySmartGold.

Marcus is very professional in handling the whole transaction, from me first time calling until i collected the silver just now, i'm totally satisfied. he is also friendly and easy to deal with. whenever i called him, i will definitely reach him. even if occasionally he didnt pick up the call, he will call me back very soon. the last time i called that he didnt pick up, he returned my call in less than 2 minutes.

interesting discussion with him that many customers from 1StopGold are also not happy with 1StopGold.

here are few comparisons between MySmartGold and 1StopGold:
1. most of the time, no one picks up 1StopGold phone number. where as MySmartGold i'm able to reach them EVERYTIME

2. complicated process in dealing with 1StopGold. where as for MySmartGold easy and smooth. for example, 1StopGold has some policies:
- first they want to conduct an interview (wth? i dont have to interview with the vendor even when i'm buying a house, this is small little piece of silver);
- second they said they will send out a Sales Confirmation to confirm the deal / amount (which i didnt get it 2 out of 3 times).
in MySmartGold, no BS and they will even SMS the details to me.

3. upon receiving the silver, Marcus attended to me also right after i step into the office, then weighted the silver in front of me and shared some silver storage tips with me. in 1StopGold they make me waited outside for 15-20 minutes every time.

4. when i talked to Marcus, i feel like i'm doing business with him. when i talked to people in 1StopGold, i feel like i'm a beggar and i'm owing them money. what an attitude 1StopGold has!

i'm keeping 1kilo bars. no hoohaa about it, wrap it with some cloth and put it at the drawer - the drawer that is not even locked. well u know if someone break into your house, they will first open those locked drawers

Hi Guys, I am new in this, but I am really interested in buying silver as long term investment. I am from penang, and I am interested in physical silver. Appreciate you guys' advice, thanks in advance.
*
If you tend to appreciate the artistic on the silver coins (which some of them look very nice), then go for silver coins
If you tend to prefer "value for money", then go for silver bars.

there are a lot of sellers in KL, not sure in penang. if you would like to know more, please throw in more specific questions, cheers!

other then the price different, what is the different btw keeping 10oz, 500gram and 1 kilo?
*
1. premium - generally the smaller the unit, the higher the premium. of course also depending other factors such as the brand etc
2. liquidity - the smaller the bar, the easier for you to dispose it when u need cash. therefore only buy big bars from reputable brands or buy from those seller that guarantee buy back. that would be the ideal scenario. when sh!t happen to the economy, some people argued that probably even the reseller would run away / close shop. for me, regardless whether sh!t would happen, buying from a seller that guarantee buy back is always the safer option

You can allow custom to decide your fate, or you can determine your own fate by insisting the Malaysian tariff code and the ability to justify your claim. I get what I want in my recent importation by justifying with custom, and they agreed with my justification.

same here. i only worry marcus (mysmartgold) said no stock when price is <25  hmm.gif

dont worry, i believe they are honest business man. people in the precious metal business, their words are law. they honour the deal even it's verbally agreed. i dont believe they will keep stock to avoid loss. they are the kind of person who honour a deal even if it is a lost. it works both way, they expect the same goes to the buyer. even if a buyer place an order at (let's say) usd32, when the price fall to (lets say) usd 26 in two days, they do expect the buyer come to pay and collect the silver.

Hi getsmart,

That was what I propose quite a while ago, i think about 2 months back, a wish list for buyer to buy, and a sell list for seller with goods to sell. If the FB group can do this, it will be great, if not, as mentioned, I need to get someone to write a webpage like this to see if it help everyone here.

Hi Chef!

I'm not sure what website you are talking about, but I have recently started a simple silver website. Mostly to host some useful information that I saw from Lowyat forum. Here is the website: http://www.silverinmalaysia.com
As you guys can see, I'm not selling anything up there. The purpose of me doing the website is mainly try to learn and practise some SEO (if you don't know what this is, it doesnt really matter). It so happen that silver is an area of my interest, that's why I start hosting a silver website.

Not sure what website you are talking about? If you are talking about a simple placing order webpage, I have just made a page and people can just leave a comment as the order / booking. Here is the page:
http://silverinmalaysia.com/?page_id=87
In order to make it exclusive for Lowyat member, I have protected the page with a password, please enter "lowyatsilver" when the page prompt a password

*Guys, do let me know if you think this is useful. If it is not, do let me know how can I make it useful.

Thanks!

Thanks.

yup, register an account, login, on top of the page type "silver shop lot", you should be able to see the result. i just tried it, there is only one result, click on it and you will see the page. you will probably need to press the "like" button or "join" button before you are officially in the group.
enjoy!
