Devices that CAN, CAN'T or HAVE WiFi hotspot support

Internet Sharing in Mango requires the WiFi chipset to be able to work in AP mode.

OEMs were using two chipsets: Broadcom 4325 (a/b/g, BT, FM) and 4329 (a/b/g/n, BT, FM).

The difference is not just in the missing N in 4325, but also lack of AP mode.

I will be checking today all (most) of the devices that I will get my hands on their ROMs to see, what chipset they have and make list of them here.

BRCM 4329 equipped phones that HAVE wifi hotspot working
- Sammy Omnia 7
- Sammy Focus
- HTC Mozart - in 5.01 ROM! Use the same method for unlocking as above

BRCM 4329 equipped phones and are WAITING (aka support AP mode):
- HTC HD7
- HTC 7 Pro
- HTC Surround
- HTC Trophy

- LG E900 Optimus7(missing SoftAP in drivers)

BRCM 4325 equipped phones (aka unable to support AP mode):
- Dell Venue Pro

How bout this simple step I success after failing to follow force to update method.
The only different was the waiting time is 5-6sec. Not 1-2sec.

1. Check update.
2. While the update still checking wait 5 - 6 secs, then pull or disconnect your Lan cable frm Modem.
3. Your Zune will appear update 7392 available. if your update show error or is up to date, try again step 1 - 2.
4. Once update for NoDo is available, reconnect your Lan cable wait for your Lan connection stable then hit update.

@derrick,
the quickest way is to get a fresh install windows PC. fulat mention earlier You might have to get genuine windows.
If your sis laptop was genuine then try recover the whole system then try again, guarantee you will get the update.

even with maxis uncap and unlimited data plan. i dont need AP function.

why do u all want it? to show off others than u can do? careful people. exit bandwidth will be cap at very low speed and will bring u all trouble when u really need it. and worst if charge if it exit-ed.

It is useful at times when you need it. When I get a SMS, email or call for support. If i need to remote access via VPN to do support work, then I need a Notebook (I know that there is an VNC client available) but on the phone you just cannot do much work. I do not want to get another Data package just for the Notebook so with WIFI sharing I can get work done without forking out more money and fiddle around with another USB device. Hope this helps to explain the need for WIFI sharing from my view point. Thanks.

+1. The same reason I want it. Mainly just for work, I do a lot of outside work, sometimes with no internet. If there is something need to be downloaded of the net for my client, I can just plugged in my wifi dongle to the PC and start my AP to share the internet. Well, if my wp7 can download to phone storage, connect to that said PC and appear as removable drive to transfer the files into the computer, I wouldn't even bother with AP function sweat.gif

I know that this can be done easily in android, but hey, I'm a wp7 and won't leave my wp7 for that! tongue.gif
