If only 1 slot, what is no good?

If have 2 slot, doesn't mean only need to use 1 slot.

As I said, people who only need 2 X 8GB will argue and said why need to get 16GB. It's all about personal preference and choice. It's just a suggestion in case one day, one needs the extra space (e.g. have not clear the SD Card, and need to shoot some extra photos). Again, just examples......... sweat.gif pressure pressure sweat.gif

hahaa
it's just memory cards and the discussion can be so interesting...

Very interesting indeed, obviously everyone have different preference on size and speed, but interesting a certain preference can be the "correct" one.

If 2 X 16GB is better than 1 X 32GB.
Then 2 X 8GB is equivalent better than 1 X 16GB, or 4 X 8GB to 1 X 32GB.

There's no wrong or right, just each person preferences and choice. Maybe nowadays more people started and using 16GB, in future, 32GB maybe the norm/common, so using 64GB becomes a no good, then when 64GB becomes a norm/common, 128GB becomes a no good? Maybe it's better to have 2 X 16GB but then it's also arguable to have 4 X 8GB, or 8 X 4GB, etc.

Yup. Spoiled my plan. I initially planned on getting more but with the current situation, would probably have to delay purchasing plans till next year. Now no choice but to go though 8TB + 8TB + 4TB + 4TB of junk and delete to make more space for more junk.  laugh.gif
Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of having two slotted camera bodies... Yet. Just the conventional 1 slot.  sad.gif

Reason why I said what I said is I feel 16GB cards are just about right for 12MP resolution. I somewhat agree with vearn27's point. Was at the last Singapore GP and I found myself not having to change cards at all which was cool. I could continue shooting without any worry. Nearing towards the end, I swap for a new 16GB card not because the 1st one was full but just so that I do not have to worry about looking at the remaining space left on the 1st CF. I also think it's prudent to spread your eggs on different baskets.

Anyway, I actually debated getting a single 32GB CF but there is always a "what if" situation. If I should misplace or something gets corrupted, everything is gone ! Pufff ! Oh, there was also the price point prohibition. 2 x 16GB for me at that time was much cheaper than 1 x 32GB.  tongue.gif 16GB still looks like a sweat spot.
*
Yes, I know and understand that theory especially the what if. It's the same for people who prefer more smaller size card, like multiple 8GB, it's cheaper too. But as I said, there's no wrong or right, just preference; Beside, it's just a suggestion, since he's "upgrading", maybe can get straight a 32GB card instead, but not necessarily must get. There's many point of view of whether getting larger or more units. Both have it's pros and cons.

Price is another factor, sometimes you can get 2 X 16GB for much lesser than 1 X 32GB, but if you can get 1 X 32GB at less cost than 2 X 16GB, for me, that's a good consideration; Maybe let's put it 1 X 16GB cost less than 2 X 8GB in case 32GB is unacceptable to view in the picture.

Wah... 4x 16GB.  rclxub.gif

I use to remember bringing 2GB CF cards and a 30GB mobile hardisk to transfer my files wherever and whenever I expect to shoot a lot. Seems like it's not required anymore nowadays.

Sometimes if one need to attend an event somewhere far away, and didn't bring laptop (or whatever storage); say the event is 2 days, one will appreciate to have more space, whether it's more cards or more space in 1 card. Anyway, when the time comes, either way, one will appreciate to have the extra space.

Adequate is nice, but when one encounter certain situation, the lack of space can be very troublesome. E.g. the client have a lot of friends and they all likes to take pictures, so the keep request to take their picture or whatever situation you can think of as an example (I'm just giving one simple one); When your "adequate" space is out/limited, the headache comes. I always prefer to bring more/extra, it's better than enough.

I know that there is no right or wrong. 8GB cards were nice back then. I still have 2 and I found that after upgrading to D300 and D700, I would fill up both 8GB cards and scurry for my older 4GB cards. It was always the case of overfill and trying to swap cards. Now when I bought 16GB cards, you can really feel the difference. The stress and fear of overfilling the card is not there anymore and you can shoot in comfort. Yes, I'll hazard a guess that 4 x 8GB would be cheaper than 2 x 16GB but the slightly higher premium for the 16GB is worth it in my opinion. A sweat spot if you may call it.

Of course the story cycle never ends. When D800 comes out at whatever resolution, the same thing would happen again with 16GB cards. Not enough. But then, we'll leave that for another day and time when prices get lower and newer tech come out. Perhaps another round of discussion at The Official Nikon Discussion Thread V20.  biggrin.gif

Even though I have 2x 16GB CF cards, I still bring my 2x 8GB CF and 2x$GB CF cards for those "what if" situations... Scout motto... Be prepared !
Not a photographer? A stalker, perhaps?  biggrin.gif

Swapping cards was not too bad actually. Especially if you shoot JPG or compressed NEF on older cameras. After a while, you'll learn how to juggle.
*
If one shoot video, that's another story too tongue.gif

I still carry my old card as well, the 4GB from compact cam. Just extra cards and it doesn't takes up much space or weight anyway tongue.gif

In his previous signature, you can see what he do, hehe tongue.gif

For swapping, there's another theory from people about trying not to insert/remove the card too often, again, another story.

On your bolded part, that's why I said I prefer don't rather than I won't.

I couldn't imagine what would happen to me if I'm having 2x 32GB at the moment. Having extra memory will make me tends to shoot more which I'm little bit of controlling myself at the moment due to insufficient HDD space. Just at the time I'm planning for upgrading my desktop with 2TB, the HDD price seriously insanely pain in the @$$ now even just for 500GB. God bless Thailand.

I usually review my shots when I got the time to make sure the lighting are good and images tact sharp. Otherwise I'll make changes to my setting. I do use battery grip and my battery only in the grip slot and the body is empty. In addition with using flash and sometime commander mode on body, hence why I left 30%++ after 800++ exposures.
*
Yes, I didn't say anything about it, I just explain to you, I'm just suggesting it to you, no worries, as I said, everyone has their own preference, so it means, I understand your reasoning; I'm just giving suggestion and some 'examples'.

I have same issue as well, my HDD full, 2 of my external HDD also full, recently I just got 1TB hdd. If size is not a matter, get the 3.5" size, which is much cheaper and you may get faster speed as well.

For your battery usage, I think that's good enough or around the same; I forgotten that my differences with yours; its because I shoot RAW+JPEG, thus the exposures count it less when filling 16GB space.

Memory card follow USD rates and not manufactured in Thailand. Therefore if someone brag that memory card price increase due to the flood at Thailand, that's a scam instead.

I see. Thanks~
What about those old stock HDD? Suppose they shouldn't just increase the price? I think you can try Viewnet or All IT Hypermart, the prices should not change? Or you can try Harvey Norman; these store shouldn't simply throw/change their prices?

That shouldn't be the case. According to the harddisk thread and my supplier, most computer shops now only willing to sell HDD bundled together with motherboard. 1TB 3.5" internal HDD raised from RM165 to RM300++. Insanely craziness.
Since when M'sian learn that they should sell according to their profit margin against their stock price than market price. If that's the case, we won't have cases where shops keeping stock for sugar and cigarette when the price is expecting to announce increase soon smile.gif

Human still human after all... greedy species biggrin.gif

What about Harvey Norman? Not sure if they will do the same or not, they're not exactly IT store, perhaps there is more controlled pricing there, but their prices weren't exactly cheap anyway.

rm 600 for a bag is over for me XD
especially i didnt drop camera before *touch wood* so not worth for me get so expensive one XD
i need more "lala" style bag to cover the fact that i have camera XD  whistling.gif

*intend to be a failure lala-zai with otaku looks. so no one will notice me...XD..get too formal camera bag straight can see i m a gear head and become easy target to rob  sweat.gif  although my gear is cheap now.

Ok la, see the material and built quality, durability, water proof/repellant, rain cover, padding/protection, etc. If consider bag, I think those fashion bag is more expensive and way over, basically paying 99% for the brand name or the designer whom you don't even know who or see before.

If you want cheap camera bag, I think Case Logic provide cheap one, but their bag is more meant for normal consumer as there's no so much on protection/padding, etc.
