The specs are correct  nod.gif

So the i5 version doesn't include those things that you did include for the i7 version right?
Such as 1080p and Bluray?

Is the i5 version a 1366x768 only?

Thanks

Guys, planning to get an MSI GE620DX. Best price I can get at Lowyat is RM2.8k, but heard it gets hot easily.

Is it a worthwhile buy do you think?

GE620DX, i7-2670QM + Nvidia GT555M (2GB)@RM3099, 8GB, 640GB, 2 years warranty
GE620DX-675, i7-2670QM + Nvidia GT635M + (1920x1080)@RM3299, 8GB, 750GB, 2 years warranty
GE620DX-875, i5-2450M + Nvidia GT635M + (1920x1080) + 128GB SSD@RM2799, 4GB, FreeDOS, 2 years warranty

You are talking about one the these?
Pro:
For the FHD version, FHD is good. For the SSD version, you don't see SSD spec 15" laptop at this price point too frequently. Good keyboard feedback. Trackpad is up to personal taste, but key need to be clicked stronger than usual. Good speakers and sound.
Con:
2nd gen i7 and i5. GPU outspeced by models by other brands at similar price point. Glare screen (personal taste).

Heat: I generally find MSI slimmer models in current generation tend to have this problem. Maybe the design wasn't the most effective.

If you plan to get it for gaming, there are better spec (CPU and GPU) laptop out there.

Hi nexus, thank you very much for your help.

The version is:
Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor Speed : 2.2 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz
15.6” Resolution : 1960 x 1080 (FULL HD) LED backlight
Nvidia GeForce GT 635M 2GB DDR3 VRAM
8GB DDR3 RAM
750GB 7200rpm

There's no SSD, which I don't mind, as I don't consider price point worth it (I used ultrabook for work until I resigned recently).

I am considering it due to my situation (Desktop replacement) but need to be below RM3k. My requirement is also preferrably i7 and MUST have 8GB DDR3 RAM.

4G RAM only cost around RM80 nowadays. You could upgrade it easily smile.gif

You may want to consider these as well:
Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M@RM2799, 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional
The cheaper one only has HD screen. The slightly more expensive one out-spec GE620DX in CPU, HDD is bigger but slower, anti-glare screen is always nice, and the SSD speed up frequently used apps. Check out the garage sale threads, you can get better price, and Dell warranty is way better smile.gif You can extend it to longer period if you want.

Lenovo
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty; *W8 (white) version upcoming
Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3599[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years international warranty
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3999[JBL], 8GB, 32GB mSATA + 1TB HDD, W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years warranty
If you are into gaming, this is nice. CPU out-spec GE620DX, GPU is better by miles. Again check out the garage sales threads, you can get the cheapest version + upgrade the RAM to 8G with < RM3k.

Yeah, the Lenovo sounds great I agree.

I wonder where I can get that exact pricing, but I can't live with W7HB (need W8 brows.gif ) and upgrade.

Tried looking at online retailers but their versions are all different (tech hypermart sells with NVidia GT650 instead) and no option to upgrade to 8GB.....

Microsoft is running a campaign. You just need to pay USD15 (approx RM50) to upgrade your W7 (any version) to Win8 PRO. Just register with microsoft website.

Try LYN garage sales thread. Just search Lenovo Y580, plenty of sellers with attractive price smile.gif
The most common upgrade are increase RAM, swap SSD with HDD and put HDD in caddy, 3 year onsite warranty ...
Anyway, please get a good laptop cooler (or other ingenious cooling solution you have) if you use this for gaming. Lots of power in a slim body tongue.gif

In Malaysia, the Y480 carry the GT650.

Vaio pricelist extensively updated.

Fairly old models were deleted from the thread to make way for W8 ones (thread too long to post already tongue.gif)
