Nice one and congrats!

You can calculate your salary and tax from this website http://www.paycalculator.com.au/
*
That's quite an interesting one but the features are quite limited and I guess it's only for citizens and permanent residents. I can't alter it to my own situation =(

Yeah, unless you tick non-residents

Just a simple calculator
*
Yeah that's a part that I ve never really understood all these years, us on student visa have to tick paying tax as a resident rather than non-resident. So who are the non-resident then if this is the case? (Working visa also pays tax as residents as well)

The reason that i stated that is there's no forever job in Australia compared to Malaysia. U may see me good today, maybe 2years later, i'll be retrench and jobless. I found that most people here have the experience of being retrench. It's normal here.
My classmate who's mining engineer here getting AUD150k for 2 years. We're so envy and he bought 2 house (4 x 2 x 2) Last year kena goreng and work in supermarket now. Luckily his wife is working to sustain their expenses. Selling 1 of his house now.
That's y i try to live as normal but has to prepare for the worst as i don't want my children suffers from recession. Aiming to invest some property for recession resistant
*
Sad to say that, I guess if u re given the job then you have to work hard through the way I guess.. Hopefully the economy will recover and it'll be better the next few years.

Sometimes I wondered Nemesis, is it really worth it? Its an honest question. No disrespect to you. Just wanted to know from you honestly

Like you say, today you might have a job, 2 years later you might be laid-off taking dunno how long to get another job.
If you have a mortgage and family to feed, wouldn't you break into cold sweat? especially if your savings are not alot to begin with.
I think i would have a nervous breakdown.

Previously i don't think you ever worried about getting layed off or eat out everyday for lunch.

I'm not saying migration is bad but is it really that much better over there?
*
Yes, definitely.

Didn't know there's a FB group for Perth, is it open to everyone? Can I join? It's so bored without Malaysians around =(

What is browse?
*
Browse LNG is one of the project in Woodside Petroleum which cost billions. They postponed it because its not viable anymore onshore so they are looking into FLNG (Floating LNG) but having said that they are still creating work opportunities for the local. Oil and Gas is still doing very good compared to the mining industry.

As far as I recall the intake rate of graduates are quite good for oil and gas companies, around 70+ each.

I heard Australia found some big oil discovery off the western coast. One of my friend who work for Shell, got posted there.

So now it is not viable?
*
Discovery is one thing compared to actually developing it as the cost is too damn high compared to the FLNG. If you looked at how the budget blown out for Pluto LNG went, extra $3 billion as compared to when it initiated, the project lost its initial value.

But we will see how the economy goes anyway after the election.

That's true. A sparky's Cert III ticket is a worth more than an MBA. If you got a Cert IV instro ticket + Sparky ticket, you can name your terms most of the time and take home 140k.

A degree isn't worth much, thus my want to finish my TAFE ASAP and putting it even above my masters Petroleum Eng .
*
Hmm MBA only comes in when you have working experiences and moving your way up to the management level, but so far all the managers I've talked to have MBA and they say it's necessary but not important.

I guess someday your degree will be a worthwhile.

22k? So cheap? My masters edi 35k a year lol UNSW. Even my IADP and IWCF joint cert costs 3k AUD for 5 days.

But it is my view that White Australians with a degree will be far better than an equivalent Asian migrant, simply because;

1) They're very passionate about what they do
2) They're very meticulous career planners
3) They're very focused on keeping their foundation

They don't go to uni if they aren't interested. Us Asians, interested or not, go to uni, churn out shit grads, forget all our basics.

Plus I'm both Uni and TAFE trained. If you ask me, professionally, TAFE is better than uni. It is a lot more useful and gets to the point. When I went to Uni, the best students were electricians who already did TAFE and their apprenticeships.
*
Think Masters/PHD are a different level for prices. I know for UWA degree (engineering) is about 32k while commerce could be as low as 24k/annum.

Masters and PHD on the other hand is crazy but normally you only study them if you get scholarships.

Tuition fee prices increase by 10-15% every year. When i did my master in 2008, it only cost me about AUD22K per year.

Used to be static for UWA, not sure for the rest of the uni in Australia.

Im planning look for a job there with one year experience in IT field. Just want know what kind of requirement do i need for me to get sponsor from employer/company?
Heard that it a bit difficult because they usually reserved for their own ppl.
*
Did you study in Australia?

But travel to overseas is so much easier. I booked a flight to Japan from KL-Tokyo next month for a short break. Budget is $5k for 2 people which I think is enough for 13days there. Fork out RM15k if I am working in Malaysia is a bit hard for me though
*
Hey! Me too! But my trip from KL-Tokyo is around Jan 2014. But my budget isnt that high as I'm still a student. Let me know your experience once you're back. I only plan to bring $2k there with accommodation provided by a friend.

Guys, I am currently working in the petroleum industry for a year + and I have recently did the expression of interest in applying a visa for skilled workers. But it seem I am just lacking for IELTS (which I have taken years ago) and also my mechanical engineering degree from a British University (still accredited under the Washington Accord) to be verified by Engineers Australia. Any of you guys have any experience in getting your degrees accredited through Engineers Australia? I would like to know your stories.
*
If you're already in the OnG industry in Malaysia, why not just stick there? The pay is better than average jobs in Malaysia.

Hi Nemesis. Yeah I am currently in Halliburton in Malaysia. But like you said, once I get my visa settled I will start applying. Planning to retake IELTS this end of the year. Sadly my IELTS from 2008 is no more recognised.
*
Bear in mind you'll have a lot of competitions from the local graduates but I wish you all the best =) I'll be in that field next year as well, need any help can just drop me a msg.

Can try apply for the state nomination for a fast track since engineers are quite a demand in WA.

Still studying (Mechanical, major in OnG) as I'm only starting my graduate work with the company next year. It's a rotation program so I'll be thrown into different department every year.

Am in second year of uni. Just wondering how much of a chance does a malaysian stand of getting a job in the big 4 in aussie. Most of my friends are talking about applying for one but most of us don't really think we'd get it.
*
Should be okay. Make sure you have volunteering work, vac work experience and a part time job in your resume. Double and triple check your grammar and english then it should be okay. I have a few friends from uni who are now working in the big4 after graduating and the company literally sponsored their visa.

Problem with graduate program is that most of these big companies only hire afew people each intake. Considering there would be thousands of applicants, unless you're resume is top notch you don't really stand a chance
*
Well, that's not entirely true. Big companies that I got to know in WA takes in around 50-60 graduates a year unless you consider that number small.

oh sorry , I was actually referring to engineering graduate programs. I heard BHP takes only 2 a year.
*
I was also referring to engineering but normally company will take across all discipline. Mine I know out of 50-60 they had around 35 engineers for graduate position.

The point is don't lose hope =) Work hard and study hard will have a fruitful future.
