I am planning to install glass railing for staircase area.

Still cannot decide which is more suitable ie laminated or tempered glass.

Primary consideration will be which one is safer for kids.

Need sifus here to advise.

And also what is the price difference between the two in terms of percentage?

Temper will be stronger for the same thickness, and more expensive. If you want laminated you need much thicker glass to have similar strength of tempered.

Most railing glass i see use tempered.

I think tempered glass means that it will shatter into small pieces that do not have sharp edges and will not cut. Laminated glass means that even if shattered, it will still "stick" together because they are laminated together.

in other words, i m going to use tempered glass.
is it easy to maintain the cleanliness of the tempered glass?
as for normal glass, when u clean it with water, u can see the stain on the glass as well.it is a bit hard to maintain.

how about tempered glass?is it the same?

Better use laminated so if it break it will not shatter but only crack

You are right.
To add on, glasses all have a tendency of self breaking. About 2% if not mistaken.
Thus, if TS main concern is safety of kids. Go straight to laminated glass as for the above reason.

Depend what kind of safety we talking. When lami glass break, it will cut easily, and strength are much lower compare to tempered. You notice shopping center will use tempered glass for most of the area like escalator, walk way etc.

If you want strength and safety, put tempered + tint, but will be very expensive.

For all glass surface, after cleaning with water and cloth, you should use some old newspaper to wipe the the surface.

Lami glass will not shatter, it will stick as a piece. Tendency of cut is lower as compare to a shatter glass.
As TS mentioned, he want to install it at staircase area, force to knock on it shall be minimum.
But you are right, if cost is not an issue. Temp+lami is the best.
