By the way, you sound like a person who appreciates Japanese food! But kinda weird thou, a real Japanese food is not from the buffet bar...fyi.

Will check it out.

I would definitely prefer non buffet style as the quality can be significantly different. Even the Wasabi itself can shine. However my GF does occasionally like buffets, hence thinking to treating her to 1.

You dont need to treat a girl to luxury food if she cant tell the difference between a Maguro and a Otoro.

Hi guys. Anyone experienced the omakase at Ten or Nobu?

Only tried Kame Sushi and Sushi Hinata before, and Hinata edges out Kame Sushi.

I want to try somewhere different and considering only the omakase experience at one of these restaurants: Ten, Sushi Hinata or the newly opened Nobu.

Any opinions?

Kamatsuru Nama @RM75.40++ - we preferred our sake is hot and we both pretty like the fruity taste in it.

We ordered a set of chicken assorted yakitori which one of it consists of Chicken Breast Yakitori. This set is cost at RM34.80/pax.
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - A little sourish from the tomato sauce which is kinda weird for us but it is still acceptable.

Chicken Skin
Outlook: 4/5

Taste: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - A simple chicken taste but it is grill in a way which is so delicious! Maybe you might think it will be too oily but it is done just right!

Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - First you have to stir the raw egg yolk. After that dip in the chicken meat inside the egg and put in your mouth straight away. You might not accept the raw egg but seriously it is really delicious to be eaten that way. Very creative. One just not enough for me.

Chicken Wing
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - If the waiter did not explain what is this, I might thought some other animal's meat. It is really required a skill to be able to skew like this. The taste is delicious. After all, it is chicken wing. One of the best part on a chicken. Can't be that bad.

Chicken Thigh
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - I love chicken thigh the most. That's the most delicious part on a chicken for me. The sauce is slightly too sweet but it is just nice for my chicken thigh.

Eggplant @RM9.28
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 1/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - The way they cook the eggplant is by putting the whole eggplant on the hot charcoal. So in the end some charcoal stick on the eggplant and I taste the terrible bitter taste in it. Unfortunately, they said that it is supposed to taste like that. I just cannot accept it.

Sashimi of the Day @RM65.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - It is fresh! I like the white tuna the best! The choices of their fish are pretty fixed to want the chef want to serve to you.

user posted image
Gindara Teriyaki Set @RM75.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Some people said a good Japanese restaurant must serve good sashimi. Some said good sushi. For me, I would say cod fish. Cod fish is really easy to make because the meat itself is already sweet so that's impossible for a chef to ruin a simple fish. So as for this restaurant, they passed my cod fish test. It is real good. Maybe they just need to tune down a little bit on the saltiness of the gravy so that the salty taste will not overpower the original sweet taste in it.

user posted image
Wagyu Bento @RM80.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - They fried the tempura in perfection. Really delicious enough to crave for more. It is just the wagyu beef which is the main food in this bento is really disappointing. It is salty and not really melt in your mouth type of beef. It is a waste for such a high grade of beef but not really well cooked.

user posted image
Chawanmushi @RM8.00 - Simple steamed egg can be really delicious too.

Hanabi Roll @RM30.00++
Outlook: 2/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - It is a California roll with soft shell crab.The crab roe is not well coated as you can see from the picture. Very sluggishly done. The rice is fragrance but the soft shell crab is not really impressive. Sushi Zanmai can done better than this at a cheaper price.

user posted image
Kiraku New Style Sashimi @RM48.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - Their very own Carpaccio style which only has the olive taste and very sourish taste. I can't taste the sweetness from the fish itself. Not really a fan for it.

user posted image
Hiyashi Tororo Soba @RM28.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - It is not the normal cold soba which you have the noodle and the sauce separated. This is a little out from the traditional one and have the noodle and sauce mixed together. Usually when you soaked soba noodle too long in the sauce, it will not taste good anymore. However, this is surprisingly good to eat too. The ridiculous part is the price. Just noodle, sauce and Japanese Yam with few salmon roe toppings already cost you more than RM30.00.

user posted image
Unagi Kabayaki @RM65.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 2/5
Taste: 1/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - Never in my life tasted an Unagi with so much tiny bones. Yes, you will always warned that there are tiny bones when ordering this dish but you just couldn't imagine how much is this. Every single bite is spoiled by the tiny bones. The sauce is too sweet and it is affecting the taste of unagi itself. Not worth it.

Foie Gras Teriyaki @RM68.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 1/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - In their menu you will see a sample of their Foie Gras Teriyaki which is much bigger than this size. It is an obvious size difference but after I had the first bite, I am truly glad it is not that big anyway. There is a strong gamey taste in it. Oh my god! This is the most horrible foie gras that I have tasted in my whole life.

Sashimi Moriawase (5 types) @RM190.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - Very expensive and too rigid with the choice which they already stick with which are Sake, Kampachi, Maguro, Ika and Butterfish. You can't change their fixed choices. I hate it. The fishes are fresh which is still acceptable at least.

Gindara Teriyaki @RM65.00++

Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Delicious sweet cod fish with the teriyaki sauce which is slightly too sweet. If they can adjust the teriyaki sweetness, this is the perfect dish. A fresh cod fish will produce more original delightful sweetness itself. So sweetness from teriyaki sauce should not cover out it.

Overall: 3/5 - Tofu and edamame is not good. Tofu is tasteless while the edamame is over boiled. As for the Mayo Teriyaki Chicken, it is acceptable and not really that bad at all for a quick lunch like this.

Overall: 3/5 - I never order a sashimi shrimp before if you notice. This is the first time because it is their signature and indeed their signature do lived up to our expectation. It is so sweet but too bad that it is only 3 pieces for RM78.00++. Extremely costly!

Overall: 3/5 - I did not tell her what meat is this when she was eating it and she could not guess it at all until I revealed the answer. She was truly amazed that a duck meat can be this soft and tender. I think she had too much Chinese roasted duck style which is so hard like chewing a cloth.

Overall: 3/5 - We were almost full but I just wanted to try their standard of their sashimi so that I can bring you guys the verdict. Only 2 pieces per type which is just nice for us to try one each. I love all of them except the mackerel which I find it a little fishy taste in it.

Overall: 3/5 - Very attractive display with dry ice blooping out from the mini jar. However, the taste of the fish is quite unpleasant especially the cuttlefish. I cannot change the choice of fish here because it is fixed. Salmon is the best while others is not as fresh as I had before in other Japanese restaurant. It had unpleasant smell in it that gave me goosebumps.

Clear Bonito Soup (left) and Miso Soup (right). These soup is limited to one per pax only. Well, not really amazing anyway for you to get many of these soups.

user posted image
From the left, Futo Maki, Dynamite Roll, Soft Shell Crab Temaki and Jumbo Unakyu Maki. Dynamite Roll is their signature and Jumbo Unakyu Maki is worth to order. As for the others are least impressive especially the temaki. The seaweed roll is not crispy at all and the soft shell crab does not taste very pleasant to me.

user posted image
Their sushi platter is the most impressive one. By ordering like this already cost you more than RM65++. So it is pretty worth it to order and it is unlimited order. However, they are made of rice so try not to order too many of them which will make you full easily.

user posted image
This is one of their main course which is Tempura. It is very delicious and recommended to order. However, one person for one main course only allowed.

user posted image
The best main course is still this Beef Sirloin. Soft, tender and easily melt in your mouth. A delightful main course to have.

user posted image
From the left, Chuuka Wakame, Ebiko and Wasabi Ebiko. I do not know it is because their quality of their fish roe on that day is not good or what because it tasted so fishy and I have to force myself swallow them. I almost wanted to vomit but I controlled it very well.

user posted image
Their dessert also limited to one per person. They have to limit it because they are selling one scoop of Kuro Goma Ice Cream(left) @RM24.00++ and Oguro Macha Ice Cream @RM26.00++. Crazy expensive but I highly recommend the Kuro Goma Ice Cream because this ice cream is rich of black sesame taste in it. You will find that one scoop is not going to be enough.

Haha, I would say that anyone with at least decent taste buds would agree that Hinata clearly edges Kame Sushi in terms of both their food and service as well.

Just went to Hinata recently and the lunch omakase was awesome. I consider their oh-toro to be one of the best rivalling Ten but edging out Kame and Kampachi.

The one I had at the Kampachi buffet was sliced too thin and one will not be able experience the melting texture or more simply, the oh-toro experience.

The uni served was also exquisite and the chef even asked if theres anymore sushi we would like in case we were not full enough at no additional charges (provided you

don't request for another oh-toro or uni) laugh.gif

All this priced at RM 200 makes it seem reasonable. Next on the list would be the newly opened Nobu in KL since the one I had in Aussie was truly delectable.

Great reviews by the way, I now know which restaurants to avoid. laugh.gif

Itamae from Hinata has gone his own way and opened Oribe, which is pretty good.

There is a new sushi restaurant in Le Meridien ( independent) , but its prices are crazy, more expensive than Hinata , Kame , Oribe.

Hahaha, yeah I really don't think I'm going to try it out, the prices are out of this world....NYC/Tokyo prices are more reasonable even.

Also Nagasaki at Hartamas has decent Yakitori, it's relatively new....
