QUOTE(ShotGun5203 @ Sep 26 2011, 10:16 PM) hais , i just set up my tank and thinking for put some plant and mainly is for my wild betta .. not yet put in any fish ..but no confidence ady .thinking of taking out the H.e.l.p soil .. 5.8 - 5.9 is really low. Normal ph would be 6.4+ i think? The packing of the soil state there " ph drop dramaticaly ..but i google it some ppl say the ph will drop around 5.8-5.9.. Any ph lower than 6 is not that suitable for shrimps and fishes. reference: http://rexgrigg.com/waterchem.htm http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/fertiliz...-buffering.html |

QUOTE(ShotGun5203 @ Sep 27 2011, 12:18 PM) the main problem the soil is , ph kh value not stable .. if change 20%-30% of the water the ph will raise back to 7.3~7.5 .. and 1-2 days days later will drop to 5.8-5.9 ... will this affect the fish ? When you add 20-30% of tab water with 70-80% of aquarium water (ph 5.8-5.9), then ph increase instantly. After few days, soil regulates the water ph back to 5.8 or 5.9. Maybe you can prepare new water with ph 5.8-5.9 before change your aquarium water. Then the ph swing will not be so great. Is this soil will able to regulate water to 5.8-5.9 long term? or just when you first using it only? |

QUOTE(ciohbu @ Sep 29 2011, 08:04 AM) http://www.shrimpnow.com/content.php/133-W...H-GH-KH-NO3-CO2 yeps, when co2 reaches your water surface then it will gone to air.aerate water means water movement, specially near the surface or when u using air pump... this will bring down co2 level in the water and thus bring up ur PH (co2 will lower your ph) Thats why inline diffuser is created |

Put some SAE inside, clean your filter, water hose.
SAE likes to work in group. 3 or more would be nice. Maybe you can add a few yamato also |

QUOTE(applebee @ Oct 2 2011, 02:34 PM) I plan to upgrade my 2x1x1 tank to 3x1.5x1.5. Is my existing Eheim 2215 sufficient enough? Best if you could get a Eheim2217. 2215 is kinda too slow for 3feet aquarium.currently I only have moss and Subwassertang tie on mesh and rock. I only have some sand as base. Shall I upgrade to soil also? My Lighting is 55W PLL and CO2 tank with 1bps. If 3ft tank how many watts light I need? 3 ft light is how many watt? Get some soil, so you could go for more kinds of plants. 55W is too low for 3feet, Aquazonic has T5HO for 3feet with 36W x 4 = 144W CO2 bubblerate is depending on how pack is your plants. More plants need more CO2. Get a co2 indicator to check if you are overdose or underdose CO2 Hope this helps |

BBA is not caused by high light problem.
Even when you are using 38w x 3 still very low Main problem of BBA is your filter dirty. Change filter mat, clean the inner of your water hose properly. Put in 10SAE then they will eat BBA for you. By the way, you got some super nice gear there This post has been edited by weijie: Oct 3 2011, 06:27 PM |

QUOTE(korean_girlsclub @ Oct 3 2011, 07:58 PM) last time i used 38w x 3 = 114w but with reflector mean 114w x2 = 228w. Using reflector will double the light source? why is it ya?is 228w suit for 4f tank = 80 gallon tank? But as i known, some species need blackish water and some of them good jumpers. It juz nd low oxygen level, and lotsa plants for shelter. So i thought it might be comfy in planted tanks? Research about it before buying Added on October 4, 2011, 9:25 am QUOTE(dosnx @ Oct 4 2011, 09:04 AM) ALLERT!!! Green water very easy to develop.
Put water in glass aquarium, put it under your roof, then add in some cheap rotala and a few guppy (eat mosquito larvae). You will see green water few days/weeks. |

QUOTE(desmond @ Oct 7 2011, 09:43 AM) Before i got my solenoid, yes.It is better to use a Co2 indicator to check if you are overdosing co2 or not. Refer wikipedia for profile of cherry shrimps >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_shrimp What soil you using? normally if using ADA then ph will be less than 7. somemore you are dosing co2. For methods about lowering ph, kindly view ciohbu previous comments |

my-mac members commented that it is quite impossible to remove them totally from the aquarium once you introduce. They are indestructible.
That worries me lol. Even now i having headaches removing small, round snails from my tank. Population is small but i dont like them playing around my sub and mosses. |

QUOTE(ciohbu @ Oct 7 2011, 02:16 PM) huhu.. those round small snail always come with plants that i buy.. but usually i remove them manually first b4 planting.. so far ok NA sold me small portion of HC then it is infected. yupe.. u need some snail trap if overpopulate, but that also won't kill them 100%, sure got some hiding under substrate i already wash with tab water before put inside my aquarium. |

QUOTE(ciohbu @ Oct 7 2011, 05:44 PM) My assassin snail skill is very very good. i brought 1 last few months, then right after i put it inside, it went MIA.So i thought it is dead. Last month when i rescape, all plants and rocks is removed before i top up another 1 inch of soil. Next day, my assassin snail appears to see its new house. And, until today, it is missing again ~ lol ~ |
