I plan to buy 4x4 pickup and shortlisted to below few options:
1. Triton 2.5 auto 2. Hilux 2.5 auto 3. Hilux 3.0 auto
I plan to keep the pickup for at least 8-10 years.
Please share your experience on:
1. Maintenance (minor and major service interval & cost, spare part cost). 2. Durability. 3. Fuel Consumption.
And I wonder Hilux 2.5 auto vs Hilux 3.0, is it worth the 10k difference between these two pickup in long term (maintenance, engine durability, fuel consumption & etc).
Appreciate if anyone share their view and experience.
Thanks.

My choice always be Triton 3.2... price diff not much.. just RM10k & with that diff Monthly Installment also not much diff as well. Can be couple of buck..
For Hilux... stay away that I can say coz latest D4 engine not tough as old engine... SC only can take out speed limit cut after the Hilux age 3 years.. Why after 3 yrs coz got a few D4 engine blow after took out speed limit cut before...

4 Months back, I'm in the same dilema like TS. Tested 3.0 and 2.5 Hilux, and Triton 2.5. Ends up buy Triton 2.5. Reasons:
1. Hilux 2.5 turbo lag noticeable, poor power and poor NVH. 2. Both Hilux are same, bumpy. 3. Triton more powerful and back seat more comfortable. 4. My uncle owned Hilux 2.5 since year 06, lacks of AT cooler for Automatic, not robust enough. 5. My company project car is Hilux, turned turtle early of the month. Not to say Triton is safe to corner fast, but it is much stable when corner. Test drive then you know what I means. Maybe due to lower gravity for Triton.
So far my dad quite satisfy with his triton. FC around 650km per tank full city drive. If you drive in site and bad road condition, Hilux might suitable for you. If you mainly drive in town, then I suggest you go for Triton.

It depends on your location. But, toyota will always be a toyota. It's pretty reliable with the so call safe engine tuning > lower hp. Take hilux 3.0 if u hv no problem with the road tax.

I'm from Sarawak, so road tax should not an issue for either 2.5 or 3.0. And in east Msia Triton only offer 2 years free service with 3 years warranty. Whereby Hilux (new facelift on Oct 2011) no free service with 3 years warranty. Thanks.

for long term usage, nothing beat the hilux 3.0. the hilux 2.5 variant is under power. btw, why choose auto? aren't east malaysia's road is tailored for manual gearbox? i drove a navarra auto the other day and even with the short burst of power dumped at 2k rpm, overtaking on a cross country road is not as composed as those with manual gearbox.
