Guys... While driving on LDP highway today... My car's engine suddenly stopped.... Everything was on(Air-con, radio) just the engine was not working.... After awhile , I restarted the engine and it runs again....

I'm not free to go to the service center tmr and I need to use the car tmr.... Is it safe drive?
*
It could be ur battery is not properly connected. As we all know our PE uses ignition coils, and ignition coils requires a constant current flow from the battery to the PCM to run. At any point where the circuit is interrupted or disconnected, the car engine will die off. But since u said that the air-con, radio was on, it could be a case of weak battery supplying insufficient current to the PCM. Ur best bet will be to check whether the car battery is properly connected and also if the battery is weak. It's safe to drive the car, but be aware that if ur battery disconnection is the case here, u may risk overloading all the electronic boards on ur car and fry them all.

oic. thinner tyre is noisier. so stock tyre thickness is considered good??
hmm....actually i am damaging my engine coz my petronas syntium i normally changed at around 7k-8k interval. @@ no money. but actually i dun feel the loss of power. i just feel rougher engine.
*
Ultimate damage to ur engine = always high rev F&F + never service car. Ur engine will become like lorry engine in no time laugh.gif

If u wan comfort, then stock tyre thickness is good lah. It comes down to the tyre thread as well.

Change around 8k = void warranty. If u dun mind then go ahead lah. To be safe, dun drag ur engine oil more than 7k KMs lah.

Which rubber become sticky? hmm.gif Rubber sticky = it's starting to melt. And rear view mirror loose? our rear view mirror is clip-on type. Maybe it's not secured to it's latch properly.

no lah. normally wont more than that. but tried once before. the oil is as mentioned by the oil man is dark and not transparent. but sometimes when most of the time drive really slow, the engine oil still look good at 6k.
btw, my SC timed my oil change interval every 7k. so not sure about void warranty lah. previously they timed my oil change every 5k. after that they changed it to 7k. dunno why. of course i will change the engine oil at the correct time also when the time and the budget permits lah. sometimes is like i am travelling far, so only when i come back i service my car. the best balance of comfort and performance will be?? so comparing high rev and low rev, is it the same when u dun change engine oil at the correct or given mileage?? for example, if always high rev the car but change at every 5k and always drive slow and steady but change the oil only at 7k and 8k.

Added on August 24, 2011, 1:37 am
then buy new car when there is no petrol available XD
*
They time u at 7k maybe because u dun travel more than 5k KMs in 3 months time lah. The interval is always 5k/3months, but if u travel less then they can extend it for u..

QUOTE(khtee @ Aug 24 2011, 08:38 AM)
shouldnt the battery be connected parallel to the alternator? after engine start.... wouldnt most of the power  supply come from the alternator?
*
Yes, the battery is connected parallel to the alternator. If u understand how the battery works, then u'll know what I'm talking about.

In a car, the battery merely provides power to start the car & power the accessories such as lights, radio, etc when the engine is off. Like what u just said, after the engine has started, the alternator provides most of the power needed for the car. But the lesser known fact is that the battery completes the circuit, and it acts as a large transistor to absorb and regulate current spikes from the alternator. The current provided by the alternator is not consistent (think of how ur headlights dim when the compressor kicks in), and so the battery smoothens this out. Irregular power surges, as we know, are bad for electronic boards in the car (ignition coil, ECU, radio, etc). If the general electrical load on the car is more than the alternator output (more than 50 amps), the car engine will stall. The best example that I could think of is the compressor which uses quite a lot of power to run. When the compressor starts running, ur RPM drops a little, then goes back up to the normal idling RPM. Which is exactly why I wouldn't recommend installing a LCP that's too light or small as it may reduce the alternator's ability.

The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) draws power from the battery rather than alternator. If the battery is weak or faulty or the connectors are loose, the PCM may not be able to draw a constant power to the ignition coils, which explains the engine dieing off in the middle of the road. Although in that particular member's case I don't deny the possibility of a faulty PCM.

unless .... our persona has some unique wiring design... alternator are suppose to be always parallel to the battery...
by parallel means .. both can act as power source... never tried this on my persona yet.. but in my old car... once the engine started...i can just unplug the wire (ground) from the battery (did it before .. to check whether is the alternator is working or not)
but i could be wrong tongue.gif
*
Do not ever do that with PE if u're not willing to spend money to replace crucial e-boards on ur car.

QUOTE(Cavino @ Aug 24 2011, 10:15 AM)
I know many mechanics use 7K lube change schedule for semi and 10K for fs. The last time when I change FS, my mechanic use 10K as next schedule. Then I ask him, he say expensive, so schedule longer. Then I ask him, how long he use FS for his own car and his best schedule change, 5K......***....he himself say 5K as fs actually last only as long as mineral but in order to avoid customer relunctant to use FS....extend lor....

So for semi, try not to exceed 5K service schedule. FS better 5K also but if no money, then 7K max, tho I advise if really no money, use either semi or mineral at service at 5K. Garantee no worries on having black non transparent oil issue.

Also note the blacky stuff is abt contaminant, addictives is still wearing out early.

2ndly, if you always got start in start/stop traffic, should change at 5K coz idling or slow speed, mileage not moving much but engine still goes on. Thus highway runs guys usually have cleaner engine than city drive guys at same milaege.
