Come to Sri Bintang, Kepong. A snooker center here only RM6 per hour. I usually spent my time playing Lucky here. Thou the table wasnt that nice but it was nice enuf to have a straight and well balance table and average house-cue.

rm95...expected la....in us also it's like USD22 like that...yea...if i have money, might consider of buying it rather than a cue stick...at least it helps my game...
*
not much point buying it unless u got your own table at home. there're a few poolhalls around that use the cueball, like rack and asiacafe (1st floor) in subang and breakers in hartamas (think must ask for it).

better save up some money get a decent cue. then again for a coupla hundred bux, u dun have much choice except those cheap taiwan decals, this is true everywhere u go. its enough to get u started especially if you're a casual/semi casual player, but if u intend to get good at the game, best to get those cues known for their quality, typically starting from 500 onwards.

of cos, if u got natural born talent like efren reyes, then no need good cue la. use broom stick also can! tongue.gif

you can just buy the attachment (plastic moulded) and slot that onto the end of a spare cue. that way you dont have to carry around the whole extended rest around and you can hook it onto your break cue when you need it.

should be just a few bucks for that

Asia cafe's tables are decent (1st floor), not too sure about Club7 it's probably slightly inferior. Rack cafe is also decent, nice environment for serious pool.

There's also a new place in Leisure Commerce Square 7th floor where skyventure (i believe) used to be. Well not exactly new, sorta like under new management now. Half snooker, half pool. Big place, tables similar to Asia Cafe's. Nice decor & tables, the F&B there also good. Gonna be the next hangout joint for serious players.

Lastly, there'll be 1 poolhall opening very soon near Sedaya College in Tmn Connaught, Cheras. If it hasnt opened already wink.gif Run by poolplayers, for poolplayers. It's called Corner Pocket, located at a corner shoplot (getit?? haha)

It just keeps on getting better biggrin.gif

1) here are a few:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_spor...cup/2289746.stm

and another of ronnie's 147:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/video/39127000...t_ronnie_vi.ram

2) u can also goto video.google.com and search for pool/snooker. u might get luck.

3) theres a pool hub in DC++, just add "poolandbilliards.dyndns.org". ive never logged in there for some time, so not sure if its still up. its mostly pool, might have some snooker also.

4) lastly, if u're into geeky pool/snooker ball physics, heres an excellent resource, chock full with full & slow mo videos:

hey dude! great idea! i'll second your idea! we'll name u the founder then. laugh.gif

but getting back to the matter, its really a great idea! but i've not much experience running associations, but willing to learn and sacrifice some time (For the love of the game!) we need endorsements of somekind, is it? Why don't we gather some names first?

btw, why tourney on june 10th? wanna set up the association first is it? rclxms.gif

oh yeah, will PM you.

wah been missing for some time and now wanna start association?? lol

anyway credit goes to u guys for the spirit...however, pool is really under the MSBF. however as is typical with these kinda associations, there're lotsa red tape happening and alot of pool players feel that they aren't doing enough for the sport. to cut things short, if u wanna form an association/organize tourneys/etc, trust me, its all been done before and are still being done....occasionally lol.

not wanna dampen your spirit or anything...however they're alot more involved with running a tourney than u'd think off your head. alot of tourneys are run at a loss, but if u wanna make even the slightest amount of money, u'd have to charge high entrance fees, and this will definitely turn off alot of players. heck, even finding the minimum number of players to participate is hard enough to justify a tourney.

why do u think they're not alot of tourneys being run? of cos, on the casual levels, u'll see places like asia cafe or breakers having full house on weekends, but thats just about it. pool remains a very social/casual sport here, and if there's any measurable/noticeable growth to it, its only recently that ppl in the scene are starting to 'buck up', so to speak. but still, its better than nothing and it gives a promising picture to the local pool scene. somewhat.

but u know whats my main complaint about the game?

NOT ENOUGH CHICS IN IT!! biggrin.gif

hey calvinator,

what about clubs then?
btw, i read at the other thread that u work as pool/snooker equipment salesman is it? im actually looking to buy a decent snooker/pool cue and start taking up pool/snooker seriously. any tips/suggestions for a starter's cue? went thru ur website, but cant see anything 'concrete'.. haha blush.gif

also, u seem to be quite 'pro' leh.. ur place offer training isn't it? is it any different from those offered at MSBF? actually i got lotsa questions, but this is all i can think of now.. appreciate your help/advice.. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

do agree abt the chics part.. haha

clubs ah...u mean online? sure got if u look hard enough haha. im socalled moderator for poolfanatic.com MY branch, but kinda inactive there. its a SG site, we should at least be like them la...the scene there is so much bigger. and needless to say, alot more chics involved there!

hmm which reminds me, maybe i should login there now to see wats happening lol...

and wat sorta cue u have in mind that is 'concrete'?? lol...famous brands that malaysians always talk about are predator and viking. both are excellent amerincan brands, but there are alot other brands out there. most important, think of your budget first and then i can recommend u one of at least decent quality.

imho, u need to make up your mind which one u wanna take up, pool or snooker. but basicalyl, if u come from a good snooker background, pool shouldnt be a problem but thats stating the obvious. most important is to have the right fundamentals. but if u keep on switching back between pool and snooker, u wont achieve consistency.

im not 'pro'...i play alot, sometimes join competition (not good enough to always join). plus, i dun have high ambitions lol..just play for fun, kill time la. if we ever meet up, feel free to ask any questions smile.gif

saltybean:

u talking about the short plum malay girl ah? shes okla i suppose, but lately shes not working there anymore. there are a handful of other girls who're actively involved but rarely see them around. again, the ratio is like 1:9...still cant fight with foosball!! heck, even snooker has got more girls playing it...

anyway im keen on any sorta gathering. there's also this Malaysian Pool Kaki on frenster...>400 members the last time i checked but nothing going on wan haha.

yo ppl....yup,quite true calvinator, only in recent years the growth in pool could be seen with our eyes as many pool centres which encourages healthy growth in this game have started operating. Those days where pool is considered as a casual game where it is played just to hang out, lose yourself from stress are nearer to something which is of the past.however,i still like pool as it is a good excuse to grab girls, konon must hold their hands to teach them.In my opinion, pool will gradually grow into a sport with more enthusiasm among players, wishing to learn more compared to the once 'tidak apa' attitude.i personally hope that more ppl will take it seriously rather than just cuieng the balls with wrong techniques like most ppl do nowadays..just look at countries like phillipines and taiwan, they breed pro's like what we do in badminton.basically, talent is there but all that is neede in this region is just proper training and techniques....bout the tournament, june 10 sounds good cos it's just after my exams....plan to play competitively after exams....sick of trashing the same pool kakis already.

Actually, there are 2 of these father-son combo around.

Chinese father-son: Mr. Yap and er...boyboy? lol. Always play at AC, ive played him (the son) a few times before including once in a tourney. He's improved alot since that tourney, nowadays always bugging me to play on Saturday nite but usually i cant make it...his father recently bought a Mcdermott from us. The kid is good...if u leave him 4 or 5 balls on the table he can probably clear up half the time lol

Indian father-son: Mr. Anil and er...dunno the boy. I think they're lousier, yeah always play at CP but sometimes see them at Rack. Anil been threatening to take lessons from us but lately been coming up with many excuses. Dunno too much about them though...

oh, ya, there got one place selling, im going there later to see see, hehe.

depends ur budget lo, if ur budget is 300, then Omin millenium lo, if 400, then Omin champion.

if budget more than 400, get John Parris la, around 460 i think. maybe u need to go and try and hold the cue, if the feeling is right, then get it lo, no point buy those rm1000 plus cue, but when u hold it the feeling not suitable for u.

last time i bought one cheap cue, Royal brand, Rm120 only, the feeling damn nice, i can play very well with tat. after tat i upgrade, bought another John Parris, Rm700 over, i cant play well with tat......... sad.gif then again when i study in london, i bought one cue, Peradon Brand, custom made, cost me 160 pounds, tat one really very very nice to play, suit my style and playing habit. but i felt the Royal cue i own previously was almost as good as the Peradon cue.

so sometimes very hard to judge the cue by its value, as long as suit u well, wat brand wat price also can.

just share my little experience, hope it helps

ive been browsing and suddenly saw dis thread well mayb i can giv some opinion blush.gif

wheter d brand is omin or citiboy(never heard of it btw blink.gif ) or even parris. i tink u must test d cue. wheter u like it more whimpy or more stiff in ur cue. u see many snooker cues shaft are made of ash wood(pool cues are diffrent) which makes d hit much more stiffer. maple shaft which is quite rare 4 snooker cues giv more control of ur hit such as applying english in it.
beside that the tapper of the shaft do effect d stiffness or whimpyness of the cue too.
ok nw to the join usually snooker cues v see 2day cums with 3/4 joint pool cues is 1/2 (i 4get d name blush.gif )beside that they r steel join, brass join radial pin join, ivory join flatt face 3/8x10 5/16 X 14.etc icon_idea.gif
example 3/8x10, steel join do effect d cue performance.
4example a steel joint giv a more stiffer feel of the cue because d weight tends to front bt dis will effect d feel because of d steel joint. in other hand cue with wood 2 wood jont give d player more feel.

the design off d cue is quite personal actually bt usually omin master cues and paris do full spilice witch is quite good too. either is ebony or purple heart or roosewood is up to u. ofcuz additional spilce of wood will made d price increase such as king wood sweat.gif . but d forearm of d cue will oways b maple hard rock maple i guess.(d forearm nt d shaft)

i suck at snooker btw sweat.gif
n pool cues are more nice to look at compare to snooker cues whistling.gif

btw heard from a friend that if u wanna buy a parris cue better check is asian country friendly cues d glue that mister john use mayb wearoff bcuz of the cilmate of our country wink.gif

snooker or pool cue?

er... hw cheap u wan?
jz go 4 a cue that is made of natural wood. dun go 4 cues that is made of fiberglass example cuetech cues vmad.gif doh.gif is jz my humble opinion fiberglass cue wunt giv d user any feedbck is hit like a dead fish.. n i tink u nid a glove to play wit it..... u will noe wat i mean sweat.gif

i suggest go 4 a cue that is RM500 and above d cheapest u can get i tink is below RM 100 sweat.gif bt i doubt d quality whistling.gif

any cue will do as long u like d feel and it is nt made of fiberglass. start with sumting low do sum experiment i guarantee u will change ur 1st cue in no time so get sumting cheap 1st

my shop is along jln sungai besi, opposite the volvo swedish marque showroom, right above maybank.

dunno too much about custom cues, cos really, its not the custom for pool players here in malaysia yet (pun intended haha). unlike in singapore, every tom d*** and harry pool player is into custom cues already - whether they can really play or not is a different matter altogether smile.gif just about the only ones who use custom cues here are socalled hardcore players (their skills range from decent to of course, the break n runners). DP cues are beautiful and affordable, however some ppl have complained that Mr. Perry has spoilt his brand image by flooding his cues in ebay. samsara is a legend by itself, they're more like collector's cues rather the ones u'd play with simply because they're just so bloody expensive.

to say that 314 is for lazy ppl is overly generalized. in my opinion, different playing preferences would dictate whether a 314 (or any other low deflection shafts) is suitable for u or not. i know of seasoned players who cant play with a 314 at all, yet there are those who swear by it. personally, i can play with or without 314, have no real preference, but have to admit that u do get more spin out of the 314 which is good for ppl with less than perfect strokes like me.

but one thing is true, which is alot of players are so taken in by predator cues that they think its the answer to their pool skillzzz lol. i think alot of it gotta do with peer pressure and also predator's good marketing, and also the stereotype that using a predator would somehow lift your pool image especially among casual/beginning players who are eager but easily influenced. "wow hes using a predator, must be damn good wan" lol.

snooker cues are just the locally made ones, including some omin clones. will send u to the pix when we open on tuesday (if i remember tongue.gif)

i do agree with wat LKW said about graphite cues, personally i wouldnt recommend it to anyone at all. i think 95% of pool players out there use wood cues, but dun quote me on that...

off the top of my head, here are some pros and cons of graphite cues:

Pros:
- suitable for lazy players or ppl who dun wanna take care of the cue. u can leave it boiling inside your car under the hot sun, the cue will maintain its straightness as it wont warp under extreme temperature changes like wood cues will.
- can have alot of different designs and colors, including the shaft portion (which means the whole piece of the cue can come in different colors). wooden cues only have designs in the butt portion, the shaft is just the plain natural wood. i find that alot of casual/new players like the fancy designs on graphite cues, so if u're this kinda ppl it might suit your taste.
- er thats just about it? hahha

Cons:
- the shaft will tend to get rough really quickly. this means u'll have trouble with stroking the cue stick on your bridge hand as the abrasion will make it feel uncomfortable, and on extreme cases, even cause your skin to peel if u keep at it lol. this doesnt mean that wooden shafts dun get rough - just not as bad. aftermarket shaft cleaners/solutions might help but its only temporary. longer term solution would be to use a glove, or just use powder but obviously this could be messy.
- this is my personal opinion, but i suspect im not alone: if u were to use graphite cues in the company of socalled good and/or knowledgeable players, u'd be seen as a newbie, or plain ignorant. yes, even if u're using a cuetec. dun ask me why, it's probably a stigma associated with graphite cues that u'll have to live with. forget about allison fisher or earl strickland endorsing this cue - they're probably paid alot of money for it or simply too good it doesnt matter wat sorta cue they're using.

so whether its graphite or wooden cues, at the end of the day wat really matters is to get a cue that u feel good about owning AND playing. if u have absolutely no problems with playing with a graphite, by all means get one. just know that u'd be in the minority, and i suppose u'll just have to strut your skills on the table to prove 'em wrong wink.gif

u cant really get a 314 for cuetec cues. u can only get blanks (partial shafts without the joint) and get a cuemaker to fit the joint for u to the butt. cuetec is one of the few cue brands that there're no readily available 314 shafts available for sale. u can however get cuetec's own low deflection shaft called Vortex or something, but i wouldnt imagine it'd be better than the 314, which is regarded more or less the industry standard.

anyhow i think zhumak is talking about cuetec snooker cues, so 314 isnt relevant la smile.gif

that's called feathering..and you use that to gauge the strength need to use...

if that happens when you do that means u need more practice...only the chinese players prefer to play without feathering because of marco fu

not known any snooker place without smokers. sad to see such professional and classy game being contaminated by disgusting smoke.

there are a few pool places though, but pricey.

Cant quite remember the model but it has "James Wattana" etched at the handle... My uncle gave it to me... used last, a few years ago...

The bent is not very serious but if you roll the cue on the table, you know it is quite bent

The brand is not James Wattana, i think it is something else. Like u buy Brazil jersey and has ronaldo name on it.

Where is your SIFU's shop located? I'm in Melawati. Roughly, what is the cost???

incertain extend ppl with snooker knowledge can learn pool very fast... but not until kacang lar

ronnie and steve really do er... did not well in pool. they hav 2 improve their breaks. ofcuz giving them a simple rack whithout and obstruction they will run out easliy without a doubt. and both of them is playing pool 4 quite a long time (espeacially steve) and they still miss simple shot jz look at ronnie play 8 ball at IPT tak boleh tahan la doh.gif (ya mayb they are unlucky)

and i once heard steve davis says when u shot a long distance ball even is in pool is still damm frickin hard also notworthy.gif n i do trust him laugh.gif

no offends la pool and snooker and 3chushion(carom) is very diffrent kind of game... knowledge of all dis 3 respective sports can be use in any dicipline.. but wunt as such extreme as kacang lar. wink.gif
pool is not oni pot balls u noe thumbup.gif

ps i dint say im good in pool snooker and 3chusion anyway mayb i am or mayb i am not whistling.gif rolleyes.gif whistling.gif blush.gif rolleyes.gif whistling.gif jz giving my humble opinion blush.gif wink.gif hop nobody is offended wink.gif

Guys, chill a bit lah...No need to get so worked up on such matters.

I agree that snooker players might find it not so easy to switch to pool. First, the pool and snooker table is different in size. This may affect the way the players judge the direction of the ball. Secondly, the size of the ball is different. This might cause the ball to come in contact at a different angle.

I don't blame david tamiya for his statement because, as an amatuer, I too think the same way sometimes because snooker helps a person a lot in pocketing a ball since the hole is smaller and bank shots is much harder. When I play, I usually can't manage to run a rack till the 9-ball...1 or 2 ball already stop. In that way, it makes me feel that it is better for me to be better at pocketing balls than positioning of the cue ball, which in reality, is not.

Just my humble 2 cents. biggrin.gif

mine the brand is call Dufferin if im not wrong, i already modify it and spray black colour on the cue, haha. i like black design. mine is 1pc maple cue, i don like cue with joint, 1pc better feel. if u get a good maple cue, can say as stiff as ash wood cue. but both for different style of playing, hard to compare. this maple cue is very good when i use SIDE ball, even if long distance u put side, the side still remain when it touches the object ball. but this is cue is abit too powerful, so need more time to control strength, placing is a problem sometimes when i overly hit it. side ball and screw back ball is very easy to produce, i love it. hohoho.

don envy me la, when girl ask u to buy present, tat is the headache start, haha

no offence david tamiya, peace.btw, its true that once u master snooker, pool is easy up to a certain extent like potting balls whereelse positioning is not guaranteed to be great if u are a expert snooker player cos the way of cueing is totally different in snooker and pool.but however, ppl who are good in pool will not be good in their first game of snooker cos snooker is far much demanding than pool.basically, snooker players can play pool easily while pool players are not necessarily good in snooker in their first try.but from what i see, those who play snooker or pool, surely they play both of the disciplines.

not all pool players can play snooker well cause its more demanding..
smaller pockets, smaller balls... need better accuracy across the table...

what do u mean by normal pool games?
in pool, there's only 8 ball and 9 ball..
8 ball, it's when u are either on solids or stripes, no need to follow any sequence and win by pocketing the 8 ball as the last ball..
um, actually 8 ball is the most basic one,
surprised u didnt know..
maybe thats what u call normal pool games for u?

played for sometime now....
and can we use snooker cue for billiard or pool?

Hey pool cue and snooker cue's are different. if you talk about british pool the one with red and yellow balls can la.. but american pool cannot the ball is big and the cue tip is small so cannot.

Anyone up for snooker?

Bro Blaxes..

Pot all balls with one cue.. u mean like trick shots?? Well i can't do that. barely can hold the cue right.. hehe. paiseh

billiard and pool cues are different..
billiard ones are thinner compared to pool cues,
but then, maybe u can try snooker cue in pool and see if that suits u..hehe..
for a good pool cue, can go up to a few hundreds, last time i saw a normal one is around 400+, im sure there are better and more expensive ones..

@blaxez: if i can pot all balls in one turn, i would've represented malaysia..tongue.gif
it's just my dream for now sweat.gif

i know the cues aew different....
i just wanna know if i CAN use the same cue or not...
is it against the rule or not....

One turn all balls are very great....but what i think BLAXEZ means by one cue is pocketing all the balls one by one....

what do u mean by normal pool games?
in pool, there's only 8 ball and 9 ball..
8 ball, it's when u are either on solids or stripes, no need to follow any sequence and win by pocketing the 8 ball as the last ball..
um, actually 8 ball is the most basic one,
surprised u didnt know..
maybe thats what u call normal pool games for u?
*
only 8 ball and 9 ball? there are other games u know..
i played 7 & 10 ball, not forgetting straight pool and 1 pocket.
the fact is there are plenty of pool games u can play compared to snooker
jutz my 2 cents

7 Ball rules.
http://www.bestbilliard.com/rules/display.cfm?file=seven.cfm
Basically in this game, balls from number 1-7 is used. It is arranged such that it looks like the arrangement of the game Carrom. To win the game, you must pocket the 7-ball and name the pocket which your gonna masukkan the 7-ball.

10-Ball is nearly the same as 9-Ball except 10 balls is used and the arrangement of the ball is similiar to ten pin bowling.

Straight pool is a bit hard to explain. Here are some links to help you out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_pool
http://www.easypooltutor.com/article102.html

If you wanna be good at pool, practise more straight pool. It helps a lot. thumbup.gif

I was really into it when i was a kid. Now i am planning to invest in that sport.

For some reason when a whole bunch of friends of mine started playing, i lost interest. The only way i will feel satisfied, is if I can play damn terror like Efren Reyes .. hehe.. and those other pool fella's =P

Need the time and the transport.

1U at the arcade pool there ar? not nice to play ler. Asia cafe much nicer. I play snooker too!!! Noob but ok lah.

For me who posted late. There is a place in Ampang, RM7.50/hr. Its on top of maybank, bandar baru ampang, beside Spectrum. I forgot the name, I think its one lucky sport. Will edit tonight.

Ultimate strike is expensive. >.<

I think there is one shop at summit selling, cinema floor but the esculator up from kfc. Its near the bowling center, small shop but many choices. Another one is at times square 7th floor. Those places sell snooker cues too.

So when is the pool's friendly coming along? Snooker friendly got ar?? I know I am not good, but I hope to meet more people.

Yay! Exams are over icon_idea.gif

I can try to organize a gathering but the thing is, I have transportation problem. Kinda hard to rely on friends sometimes. I need to get some practise before the gathering though. Been months since I last touch a cue blush.gif

Place will be Asia Cafe, time preferably early so can get a table easily. If everyone is on a school/college break, I suppose we can have it on a weekday, probably 8.30pm til 11?

I do hope you guys don't smoke a lot, because I'm not very keen on being a passive smoker haha.
