Thanks for the tips. I will try tonight.

Have you tried converting to EXT4 yourself? Are you happy with the performance? Any stability issue?
*
Been using Ext4 for a long time. No problems so far.

I'm a Talon kernel user. Since the dev updated the kernel with a lot of Ext4 upstream fixes (from the Linux kernel like Ubuntu), ext4 is really flying for me.

I'm looking for a keyboard (used to come with Criskelo ROM) with a dictionary that appears at the top of the keyboard. When you start typing, there are words being suggested at the top of the keyboard...

Currently with Stock XXJVQ, I only have Samsung keypad and Swype in the Input Method option....no Gingerbread or Android keypad.
Delete Aldiko? Okay, will try that too.

Hopefully converting to EXT4 will not give me any problems  sweat.gif
*
Use Root Explorer or free ones like File Expert to delete it in /system/apps or /system/media/audio/ringtones.

You are looking at something like Gingerbread Keyboard?

You mean besides EXT4 conversion in Chainfire kernel, I can also flash Talon kernel via Odin which will also enable me to convert to EXT4?

Added on August 22, 2011, 11:50 am
Ya, something like Gingerbread keyboard. I used to have 2 Gingerbread keyboard apk file but failed to install this time round, citing some issues with "script" or something...guess I need to find newer apk file for XXJVQ.

I will also check out Market to see whether there are any good similar keyboard apps...
*
You can flash Talon using CWM that will enable ext4 conversion at startup. One caveat though, it's facing the same issue with CF's ext4 app also as it requires free space in /system to convert it to ext4. Hence, you should remove some stuff in /system before flashing Talon or it will just skip conversion and boot.

Market has some good keyboard apps. Swiftkey is one (paid though).

Tried Simplicity ROM 0.33.

Phone FC twice after talking on incoming call with hands-free.

Not sure if it was caused by hands free + incoming call or not.
*
It's a known issue with 2.3.4 ROMs. You can try copying Phone.apk (and the odex file) from 2.3.3 ROMs and replace it. Make sure to do a backup of it first.

Mine is 3.13. Let's hope it being a newer version is more stable.

on mine still 2.3.6

it will update itself right?
*
Yes, it will update by itself. Try not using Market for a while and see if it updates.

hi,

its been awhile since i left this thread.
got few questions here.

1. did we still need lagfix for the latest firmware (JVR)
2. if yes, what are the lagfix u recommend?

thx
*
It's your choice whether you want lagfix or not. Some swear by RFS while some say ext4 is much speedier and stable. I'm using Talon kernel that has some upstream fixes from the ext4 repository. It feels much faster than RFS for me (on Talon kernel only though as it's the only one that has the upstream fixes).

You can try Talon kernel that comes with Voodoo lagfix. Take note that it will auto-convert your phone when booting. Be patient and wait ~20mins before freaking out.

Try Talon?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106075

Remove all scripts in the init.d dir before flashing as well as return OC/UV to stock.

you can use lippo's clener script easier.
*
Lippol's cleaner script is included in the Talon's CWM zip. It's just that sometimes people rename the script filename (like S_loopy_tweak to become S_loopy_tweak1) and the script just fails to remove it.

Yes, the script is based on pre-determined file names in the init.d dir (and assumes people won't rename the files in there)

Anyone tried voltage control before? I could not save the boot settings into init.d on JVR, worked on JVQ but not JVR...

Used the app to save the setting, but it does not exist as I check with root explorer..
*
Busybox problem again. Your busybox must be 1.1.7.x.

Install the busybox app from the market and place it in /system/xbin.

Other busybox you find, replace it with the 1.1.7.x.

i noticed my simplicity with galaxian had batt drain worst than its stock semaphore kernel

Galaxian is well known for being a battery draining kernel (sacrifice battery for speed). I use Talon which is better than Galaxian in speed and battery life.

bro, u using the OC/UV version?
*
I'm using the 1GHz version. Wipe your init.d scripts and restore it your UV/OC to stock before flashing. Need to wait ~5-10mins when flashing as it needs to recreate the dalvik cache. Best to restore to RFS also, just in case.

Use File Expert or Root Explorer, then Mount as R/W, then go to /system/etc/init.d. Delete all scripts from the folder.

Don't need to reflash. Just delete them as they might cause instabilities with Talon smile.gif

If you can't get root access with Milky, you need to use the busybox installer (forgot to mention that in XDA). Use that, and try again.

Install into xbin.

now trying to install just now when i try to install itsay need root.
*
Problem with Milky is that it doesn't come installed with busybox. You'll have to install Semaphore (it copies busybox to xbin automatically) or Speedmod (install root in recovery) to root it.

Hence, you'll only be able to root it properly if you came from a no-wipe ROM or have those kernels installed.

Bundling busybox is not a good idea sometimes as some root applications require different versions of busybox.

that is what i did.now everything back to normal. something i dont like about this rom is the pre installed kernel do not have 1ghz option only 1.2ghz.
*
Install Talon 0.4.4.22. It's a more updated version of Milky's kernel (Milky's kernel is a derivative of Talon, and Talon updates faster than Milky's)

simplicity is great. I switched the kernel to Speedmod and applied ext4. but then the "Tweaks" app in there says need cf kernel.. nt sure if it affects anythin hmm.gif
*
Simplicity comes with Semaphore (which is based on CF- kernel). The Tweaks app is used for that. Switching to Speedmod or other kernels not based on CF means you don't need the Tweaks app anymore as the tweaks are per-loaded with the kernel itself.

did you straight away flash milkys1.3 then talon? and which version of talon you flash? this is what i did and i cant bootup my phone hang at S there for 20min and cant even go into recovery. milkyS1.2>milkyS1.3>talon 0.4.3. so i have to reflash everything from stock rom. remember disable lagfix before go to talon. or else you will be like me need to reflash everything.
milkys dont have over scroll effect.
*
You should flash milkyS1.2>milkyS1.3>Talon 0.4.4.22. Talon 0.4.3 is too old compared to milkyS1.3 (MilkyS 1.3 is based off 0.4.4.18)

Flash using recovery. If you don't have CWM, flash Semaphore using Odin first, then use CWM to flash Talon.
