Just re-watch The Godfather Part 1 to 3.

Classic is classic.

hehe! i watched (rewatched) part 1 last week, just watched part 2 yesterday, part 3 probably tonight.

and i realised part 1 is already >40 years old, part 2 almost 40!

godfather trilogy is surely the best of the best of organised crime stories. because each episode is long and rich, it's not boring to watch it every 2-3 years.

al pacino is such a brilliant actor. so is robert de niro, which is why i think the top cop and robber movie is heat where these 2 faced off!

ok, thanks, will get my hands on it asap! biggrin.gif

about al pacino... who is an old man now, i have watched almost all of his movies. besides godfather, i thought he's always brilliant... serpico, dog day afternoon, scarface, bobby deerfield, glengary glenross, donnie brasco, devil's advocate. i have all of these older ones on dvd.

my vote to him as the best actor of the 20-21 century!! rclxms.gif

resisted buying this for a few weeks but gave in yesterday... rm300 but comes with a rm25 cash voucher.

i'm a big fan of the alien franchise and mr ridley scott! biggrin.gif

enjoyed 1st half of the >3hr "the making of prometheus", will continue later. then, alien 0-1-2-3-4 one by one!!

this is a 9-bd set incl a 3d version of prometheus and the making of all the rest.

a quick test tells me the 5 movies video quality with dtshdma 5.1/7.1 are no doubt better than whatever u can get anywhere else!

jack reacher is highly watchable. reminiscent of vantage point and sniper trilogy. tom cruise gets better as he age!

but the bonus is robert duvall coming on as a guest star - my hero in godfather trilogy and apocalypse now!! biggrin.gif

So, is there anything wrong with the movie?

In a nutshell, NO!

gud u like it.

1 thing not too gud about jack reacher.... the car chase - 1/2 as long and 1/2 as good as the 1 in ronin when de niro/jean reno in a peugeot chased stellan skarsgard and the irish woman in a bmw in monaco. that's just about the best car chase i ever saw!

will comment on schwarzenegger's the last stand later...

schwarzenegger's the last stand is watchable, highly entertaining, but it's not a movie u will watch for a 2nd time. it's kind of diehard2 with a touch of the aging terminator. i wud think bruce willis will do a better job in this show. anyway, gotta admit these heroes are getting too old... biggrin.gif

dark skies is not an action alien film. much like mel gibson's signs, it's watchable.

this one is from stephen chow as director, not acting. imo, better than cj7 but not as good as kungfu, shaolin soccer or god of cookery. the humur is reasonable, a no. of laughable surprises. one thing, the audio is good, so best to watch in dts or better still, dts hdma 7.1.

welcome to the punch is a pretty good action thriller. not quite hollywood but british style. starring james mcavoy who played charles xavier in x-men 1st class and will be same in x-men days of future past.

while following current hannibal 2013 tv series, i found out that i missed this manhunter 1986, a michael mann film. it came before silence of the lambs 1991. red dragon is the actual book title, which had a remake in 2002.

if you like silence of the lambs, chances are you'll like this manhunter as much as if not more than red dragon. darker, more suspense but not as decorated in terms of actors.

I've seen that before, William Petersen in the lead....

I actually like Red Dragon more...

Better.... flow... nod.gif

ed norton, ralph fiennes and anthony hopkins are surely much better actors.

but i thought the longer, quieter and darker moments in manhunter is creepier... biggrin.gif

remember Farrokh Bulsara; Gujarati: ફરોખ બલ્સારા‌, Pharōkh Balsārā‌ aka freddie mercury of queen?

if you are a fan, this new doc is worth watching. it's about the last phase of freddie's life and an "outburst of creativity before one dies". truly, he was in a lot of pain doing the great pretender and other opera songs solo before dying in 1991 at age 45. makes you think how creative you have been all your life! tongue.gif

freddie, rip...

Hansel & Gretel: Warriors of Witchcraft (2013)

i watched it for 15min and gave up!

in recorded chinese history, there are a few epics or their extracts made into movies and tv series every few years or so, again and again. one is three kingdoms, another is yang generals.

so is hongmenyan 鸿门宴, an episode in the chu-han contention period - the liu bang-xiang yu-han xin story. i just watched this last supper 2012. this version is different, good. not as much action as the older ones but embodies the story very well. excellent script. good costumes and settings - more authentic and not overly done.

this white vengeance 2011 version is also not bad but is more action oriented, more straightforward.

watch both if you like these chinese historical dramas!

I have watched White Vengeance (2011) though I think Leon Lai is miscast...

I have not got a chance to wath The Last Supper yet...

Will let youse know when I have

in white vengeance, agree leon lai as liu bang wasn't a good choice. and i tot anthony wong chau sang casted as fanzheng was also not good. but choice of feng shaofeng as xiangyu was superb - this guy, watch him, he's a rising star. choice of zhang hanyu as zhangliang was good too.

in last supper, liu ye as liu bang was reasonable while daniel wu as xiangyu and chang chen as han xin weren't that good either. it's the stylish script that i like.

older versions... that old tv series with adam cheng as liu bang was very bad! current series with chen daoming as liubang is ok but peter ho as xiangyu is bad - this 2013 series has been condemned left right and center. i never finished eitehr of them.

by the way, there is "saving general yang 2012" with cheng ekin. adam cheng too there. forget this one, poor show.

Watched this the other night....u won't believe it's a 1986 recorded video....wonderful concert at Queen's prime time with songs like Radio Ga Ga, I want to break free, one vision, we are the champion etc...
*

yep, this queen budapest 1986 is good, as good as queen montreal 1981.

a queen fan probably like the eagles. try this new history of the eagles, a 3 hr documentary in hd/dts. besides all the history, it comes with bits of their concerts, incl previously unreleased ones.

40 yrs of country-pop-rock music, still touring, had a concert in china in 2012. i like the part when don henley said, "mick jagger said it so well: i know it's only rock and roll but i like it."!
