First off, what mobo have you got? If you're only using AGP you don't have much of a choice.

Memory will help with higher resolutions only lar, unless you play games at 1280x1024 or higher you won't find much of a difference between 128 and 256MB flavours on both cores.

X800XL = best bang for the buck card I think. Not too sure how the prices are like in M'sia.

Go over to Bjorn3d and check out the latest update to the Powercolor X800GT review. There's something tasty posted there which would pop your eyes open.

Guys, that's PowerColor's bios flash which they claim increases the performance of the R480 based X800GT by ~7% over the R423 ones.

It does NOT unlock pipelines.

Over here...there's no point getting the X800GT also cos the 12pipe X800 vanilla 12pipe retail about RM100 more than the X800GT only.

Might as well get that wan..the 66GT's however dropped to around $100 cheaper than the X800GT.
*
yeah, especially if you're upgrading from a 6600gt, a x800 vanila would be more substantial than a x800xt
and i think the prices of a 6800nu should be around a x800, would be a better buy plus a chance to unlock some extra pipes biggrin.gif

i am getitng it for my freind new rig. He ask me to choose with 6600gt or x800gt. Which brand is the best for x800gt? Many of you say the powercolor one. How about Grandmars one? I saw it on pczone pricelist. It is around rm655 which is quite cheap.

I'll say go for 6600GT because its cheaper and comes with SLI!
I'm not sure if the X800GT will support ATI multi GPU, but even if it did, you'll need a more expensive Master card and a whole new mobo.

Actually the performance between x800GT and 6600GT is similar in a number of games. If I let you game on rig with either one of these cards installed, you wouldn't probably notice the difference until you pop the hood.

Considering that the x800GT is a little bit more expensive and slightly better performance (in certian games only), I'll say it is not a good choice espcially when you look at the API support. More new games will need SM3.0 which helps to improve performance and image quality.

Nevertheless, you have to understand that the x800GT is based on "rejected" R480 GPUs. Thus overclocking totally depends on your luck and stocks are limited. Once the x800GT gets sold out, its gone..... no more.

Bottom line, get 6600GT; the best mid-range graphics card of the year! wink.gif It gets better with the price of 6600GT dropping by the month.

P/S: I'm not being NVIDIA fan here but the 6600GT has more value for money and allows you to improve performance by dropping another card to enable SLI.

Indeed it doesn't unlock the pipes but it does bump up the core speed up to 551Mhz which is faster then even the X800XT's core in the first place. Am gonna play with the Powercolor hopefully this weekend but however do take note that it will be on handicapped cos it's gonna be installed on a Intel 915GAV mobo and using KVR BT-J DDR's and OC options of the mobo is kinda limited as it allows setting of FSB 400, 533 and 600. so nothing much can be done. Procs an ES 520 tho so it will be interesting playing with multi's instead.

6600GT, SM3.0 but 128bit mem band.
X800GT, SM2.0 but 256bit mem band.

X800GT is better off at high mem usage games with ani n aa on, but in the long run, 6600GT will give you the better BOOM with SM3.0 as pcmoddingmy said. Get 6600GT, prices are crushing while x800gt prices are staying.

wouldn't recommend doing that as the 128Mb models are using DDR1 and are most likely R423's. Just benched my friends one which is the Sapphire X800GT 256Mb (samsung GDDR3), core unknown as the owner wants to leave it alone for awhile.

Rig specs are the following

Intel 915 GAV mobo
KVR 512Mb BT-J (single channel but he's planning based on my recommendations)
Intel Prescott ES (2.0Ghz) clocked at 16 * 200
CM Hyper 48 cooler with a Tt Smartfan installed

First run using Omegadriver catalyst 5.7 (Core 550Mhz/Memory 1100Mhz, artifact free for 5 minutes) yielded 3DMark05 score of 4578. will need further tweaking as I haven't touched the ceiling limit yet

2nd run after embarassingly realising that I forget to reset the multi and was benching at 2.8, now with core 560 memory 1125 and at 3.4Ghz now yielded about 4656 marks. 3D Mark 2003 was abit disappointing as barely able to crak the 10k barrier. Obtained 9966 marks so far. Determined to find a good rig and max out the darn thing's potential (Maybe the Sapphire's cooler sucks..I dunno)
