Your phone not new is it.? I mean just unboxing it only recently. Sometimes brand new electronics thing need a few hours adjusting climate.., errr, not climax. After it adjust nicely (like taking the battery out as linage says) than it should be okay.

If still not okay., than you can take it to the SME for checkup.

Theme., the whole theme.? Never use sony before, only nokia for a while.

If you only want to change the background pictures or colours then you can use the wallpaper through >Left softkey>wallpaper. You can pick your choice from there.

But if you want to change the whole things like font style, size and all that. Then you have to root your phone in order to put a new rom that have a different theme and apps to your phone.
