Dont think this lens is for insect. Its more appropriate for stuff in a control environment. First thing come to my mind:

Sorry to interupt the discussion.
Wanna ask. How vulnerable is D5100 to drizzle and rain? What do u do when rain? If lens with rubber at gasket there, ok to bath the rain? Plastic to diy rain coat for my camera, how? |

QUOTE(iXora.ix @ Sep 19 2011, 07:29 PM) yaww... Good advice to keep them away from rain. But wat if you are trying to cover an outdoor event? And suddenly it rains? No place to get cover too.IMHO, there a no DSLR that can repel nor resist rain... even the technology from d7000 state that weather resistant. for me, when rain, i quickly put my dslr on plastic bag and put on bag. FYI, nikon free bag are water resistant. I'm not pro or event photographer obviously. but just want to know what options I have? |

Well no heavy rain today, only drizzle.
Tried 17-55 f/2.8 with my D5100, taking some pics for the company i work who participated, the lens is heavier than the body. With Speedlite, have to hold real hard to the smallbody due to the weight. Very nice to use lens. Really learn alot today having chat with those press / event photographer. Inspired stuff. Thanks. |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Sep 20 2011, 11:04 PM) so is the 17-55 worth the money? well, its not mind, my sifu borrow to me, while he use 70-200 and a wide anglebtw, i also find its slightly unbalance even on a D7000, thats why got battery grip. Imo, its the best lens i have used to far, hahhaa i so far use kit lens, 50mm 1.8g, 70-200 and this lens only. Worth the money imo. its DX however. I see those event photographer, left side, D3s with 70200, right hand D300 with 14-24 gosh, so inspiring. |

QUOTE(lwliam @ Sep 21 2011, 12:50 AM) That's because one is a tele another is a wide. It's just at that moment you need a wide more than a tele, so you feel that the wide is very good to use. Imagine you need to shoot a bird, which will be your 'best' lens that time? Well, what im saying is, 70-200 on D5100 feel weird, maybe just me. |
