If memory serves me right, my 18105 focuses quicker than my 85mm f/1.4G.
*
hahaa true.
then hor, let's compare the 18105 at 85mm f5.6 with the 85 1.4 at 5.6 and see the result. which one focuses more accurately?

i think people tend to think that it's gold to focus faster. nobody seems to think that it's even more important to focus accurately

i have intelligence news that says they are going to announce on the replacement of d300s and d700.
initially, they wanted to shock the world by announcing all 3 replacement (plus the d3s) but... this is from my intelligence as well, thousands of d4 were sink into the bottom of the sea when tsunami hit last march

it's like a non - AI lens.
they do not have the small latch in the mount. they rely on the weird chrome/white err... looks like a half shuriken thingy on top of the lens to move the aperture.

found in super old nikon cameras

Lack of passion in photography, or maybe because sadly, they do not receive enough guidance from peers to properly make use of their equipment to make better pictures. Not many people are very technical about photography, so probably the first few hundred shots, they are amazed at the picture qualities of DSLRs due to its larger sensor and shallower DOF (can say it's like the HD version of the PnS pics), but as they shot more and when things became too repetitive, they start to feel bored because there are no images that are strong enough to make them continue (motivated) to shoot, that's why their DSLR went into the dark closet for months, maybe years..

So, yeah, I think guidance and motivation is quite important, and also understanding what you actually wants from your photography is also important. You can be very knowledgeable about your camera, every single details. You know how to take sharp and clear pictures, but photography is a vast field. Portrait, Fashion, Landscape, Macro, Journalism, etc. It goes on and on and never ends....
*
i think you hit it right in the head. most of the DSLR users lost interest in taking photographs because they seems to be lacking of what to shoot.

however, there are classes around the city that offer something more than just the technical side of photography. nikon centre at berjaya times square has a class call 'photo 4: the next level' where participants will be 'taught' how to create a series of works and how to see with your eyes. it's not a technical class. furthermore, the facilitators will share their experience and knowledge with the participants. each facilitators will give a 1-2 hours of presentation/talk on their works. it's quite a good way to know what photographers see and how they work. well, give nikon centre a call to get more information on this.

i heard canon are planning on something similar too but i do not have more information on this.

sometimes it's nice for one to try to understand other type of photographs that one might not approve of / like. understand why the particular photographer take it in that way. what's the story behind it. etc etc. TT session is nice sometimes to share experience, not to talk about gears.

photomalaysia.com has gathering / slides show / TT session frequently to showcase the members' works.

So what if one get a D3S, but too lazy to use it, find it a burden/troublesome to carry, ended up using his iPhone camera most of the time?

*
weird,
it almost reminds me of people who buy expensive houses (well, all houses are expensive now) without really know what it means by having to pay mortgage for the next 30 years. rm 2000 a month is ok. after one year it's still bearable, but 30 years? lol

D3s is an awesome camera. king of high ISO. bokeh is super smooth (subject to equally heavy lens). but lazy lah wanna bring it out coz of the weight and size. lol

i've checked the lens with other D700 and another 16-35 with my cam... at BTS... so.. the conclusion, my lens oni got this prob...so i can assure that not my cam or my skill prob  laugh.gif

diglloyd has been telling photographers about this issue about lenses. he calls it the 'brand new blur'

brand new blur

but before you jump into conclusion with asymmetrical problem in your lens, i think it's best for you to do some test using a tripod shooting on something flat with your camera 100% parallel with this flat something. largest aperture setting of course.

so lets assume, that since Sony already announce this...
and canon to announce 7d mk2 next month...
nikon should be announcing a D400 successor too around the same time.
*
eh, 7D mk2 worr? canon rumors said not so fast... but still it's all rumours.
o have intelligence that says paideemarkfree is already in malaysia. this intelligence of mine hold the camera.

nikon will definitely come out with replacement cameras. same goes to canon.

the a77's speed has already bypassed the D3s and 1Dmk4...waiting for the final review..

1dMk4 isn't exactly full frame right? So let's leave the D3s out of the equation for now  laugh.gif

Have you sourced for it yet? I'm told the price is close to Nikon's 35mm f/1.4. Is that correct?
*
it's more expensive that nikon's actually.
shashinki are selling it for rm 5598 (import set)
and if i am not mistaken, shriro are selling it for rm 6000+ (local warranty)
