Looks like Winrar does scale well with higher Northbridge speed. However, I found that my 990FX chipset has a freaking hot Northbridge. It could hit 80+C under load.
*
northbridge on chip is not the same as the northbridge on the board nod.gif

on chip is normally refered to as the mem controller

Added on March 17, 2012, 12:08 pmi let the vCpu on auto..
cpu-nb @ 1.35v..

user posted image

the thing is how to check the cpu-nb?
base on the HWmonitor if VIN8 is vRam... what is VIN3 and VIN6?

if VIN6 is cpu-nb.. no wonder the temp so high.. any advise?

more than 10 times oredy check, set manually enable all core or set auto,
every time boot into windows, still show only 2 cores enable...

i cannot find ACC (Advance Clock Calibration) setting in the bios.
i taught this board is quite good, expensive summore compare to my asus M4A 870TD/USB3
but this MSI 990FXA GD65 has a very good bios, 8+2 power phase. i love this features

currently use old bios, V19.6
*
iirc ACC dont exists anymore since 8-series boards hmm.gif

v19.6 seems to be the latest bios already, it probably did not unlock it hmm.gif

try lowering your clock speed, maybe the other 2 cores unstable @ 3.9G so the board didnt unlock it hmm.gif

done reset bios. cannot find the reset cmos button at first, lol. very small button at the back .
after reset cmos, still, only 2 cores enable. at bios, it shows all 4 cores enable.
but the vcore suddenly drop until 1.26V++, before this 1.37v all the time at stock clock

did you lock/limit the cores in msconfig or something? sweat.gif

bios unlock or not doesnt matter since it is already natively a quadcore...

i wish i can get any better mobo. GD80, 99X Evo... crosshair formula is good or not for OC?
i mean for the ram OC, cpu-nb OC, power phase, NB cooling etc2... noob here need advice
the price so tempting here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2280108
*
just a friendly advice/note, if your proc/chip cant clock that high, what mobo also wont help it..if it can go, it fill fly even on mid-range boards like the one im using now smile.gif

the problem now I think boils down to:

1) your proc
2) ram chips not playing nice with your proc

btw, dont get a new proc just for that OC comp, you might as well just save money and see how PD will perform when it comes out smile.gif

hi all sifu, wanna ask something, between 1333 & 1600 ram, the performance is close or 1600 is far better performance from 1333 ram?
i just bought corsair vengeance 1333Mhz 8GB & now im thinking why i just didnt buy corsair vengeance 1600Mhz..
*
if you are not running benchmarks 1333 is enough smile.gif

you wont notice any difference between 1333 and 1600 in real life applications anyway....

ok thanks for the info btw before this i only use 2GB kingston value ram which is give me super duper lagging when i run photoshop CS5 with other program run, after i upgrade, i really feel the big different in performance..
no more lagging now, all application run very smooth & fast btw my pc is now is 10GB ram (8GB + 2GB)  rclxms.gif
*
10 gb vs 2gb sure got difference la...lol sweat.gif

nothing to do with the ram speed...just quantity.. nod.gif 4gb is normally enough for normal users, those that run CS5 or video encoding normally will go for more smile.gif
