its a workable combo, just make sure you get 3G/3.5G capable phone that can do 7.2Mbps or 10Mbps and has Bluetooth PAN profile.

and i think power consumption using bluetooth connectivity is lower than/similar power consumption using built-in 3G radio in the TF itself.



at first i was planning to get the Motorola XOOM because it had 3G version, then i did consider waiting for galaxy tab 10.1 but...

but i just could not resist Asus...

Thanks for the advice, but I mean the new Transformer with built-in 3G....not a tethered...

Rumors are the Transformer 2 will be released soon - as in this month? Have you heard anything about that? If its not going to be released until next year I might just buy the 3G transformer...?? Everyone seems really impressed and happy with the device?

I'm using TF 3G now and while I like it much, I'm still waiting for the new version TF as it has Tegra 3 and hopefully overall better video performance.

3G unit is sooooooooo convenient.

one thing bad about TF is that it doesn't detect my Wifi hotspot created by Joikuspot from N900. my iPad sees it no problem, so do my other WiFi enabled computers ........... but that's a Honeycomb problem rather than TF problem.

Joikuspot use Ad-Hoc but Android dont support them by default.

I dont have any problems with Joiku on N8. TF is able to detect, connect and surf fine. Using WEP open

i know you are talking about the TF 3G version a.k.a TF101G

just giving my opinion on how to get 3G connection without the expensive TF 3G.

yes it does charge the tablet even if not connected but at max around 96-100%. Sometimes your tablet may be charged up to 96/98 and it stops. That's normal. Mine is with the very latest firmware.

Added on September 10, 2011, 3:53 pmthis one not a good idea as the modder said heat is an issue at the moment and it involves some serious skills in soldering..if you dont know what you're doing..habis...those guys there got lots of money, TF is like a cheap toy worth RM 100-200 to them, but to us is like half month salary gone

Nope. The OP says heat is not an issue for him, but you will take a hit on battery longevity
(with a 500Gb HDD in his case).
And yes he did stress u gotta be good with soldering to do those stuff
(he's a civil engineer dabbling in electrical as a hobby!)
He is even offering his service to mod for u for a fee,
provided u follow his instructions on what HDD to purchase
and send over the dock to him (too bad he's in Chicago)

Imagine, all your stuff in the TF dock


Some forumers are even suggesting putting in an extra batt and/or usb hub inside ....

yeah but well i think in future we'll see this. so far only Archos offering 500GB hard disk or flash drive as i know.

Hmm funny...it didnt happen to me. Even my bat at tablet 56% and doc at 96%, but it still didnt charge the tab. The bat drain from the dock though the tab stop draining.

Maybe I need to do some bat drain or bat memory removal? Any Idea how I should do this? Is it by draining the bat until it completely drain?

mine always charges, no issues..so if you charge your dock then only your tablet gets charged together?

Plan on rooting my TF.. But mine is b70's batch... can any1 gv me the link to test whether i can root it or not? I read it on somewhr.. Just forgotten whr... TQVM

I found out TF101 performs at it best rate when batteries temp from tablet max at 33 celcius, anything higher, it lags!

Asus just release slider using Tegra2 so I don't expect seeing Tegra3 soon.

check if theres a 'superuser' link in the app list & see if you could browse the system drive.
