The new keyboard is magnificent. Havent booted it up yet because I am about to leave for my next appointment, going to fully charge it first just for kicks...

My new baby, X1C6 next to my X1C1, they will both work hard to make me more money going forward. I don't feel like selling the X1C1.. maybe just keep it and give it to deserving siblings.

Warning: Images galore

USB-C? Thunderwhat? I am confused. I guess it can be used to charge the laptop and the phone. Useful

Btw, previously I commented that my no-config X1C6 has no mention of "backlit" for its keyboard; so I was worried about it. Some of you guys said there was no option to not get a backlit anyway

I am happy to announce that my kb has backlit anyway

This is the perfect laptop, for RM4,700.

reporting in after a day's use.

It is the perfect laptop for me. Best typing experience, lightest weight. Strong and fast. FHD is good enough, I had to increase the scaling to 125%, wouldn't have made any sense going for anything better than FHD unless I care about about image fidelity - which I don't based on my office-type of work.

Battery life is set at 60% as recommended above, can last 5 hours, if I plan on taking the X1 Carbon 6th on the road, Ill just click 2 buttons (thinkvantage shortcut on the task bar ---> chargetresh hold disable) and the laptop would charge to the max 100% in just 30 minutes.

The USB-C charging port is also a great "mobile power security" in that since I always have a USB-C charger with me all the time for my phone, i can replace that with a USB-C PD and keep it for emergency use

The 1.15kg weight helps a lot. My old X1 Carbon 1st weight 1.35kg. That 0.2 kg can be felt even though I carry the laptop in my bagpack. Imagine if I had gone for the heavier T480S and T480 - which was kept as an option due to the whopping 18 hour 9-cell battery life. Since I am mobile most of the time outside office, light weight was imperative.

At RM4,750 it was a bargain for what I got. if I had cheapened out by RM500 to RM1k I can guarantee that I would not be as happy as I am now.

My L580 is almost 3kg
*
Yeah I imagine the L series would be quite heavy. id kill myself and refuse to go to sales meetings if I have to carry a 3kg laptop along with other items

As mentioned, I considered the t480 with its 18-hour battery life but remembered that I dont leave my office/home for that long anyway and the 1.8kg (2kg with the 6 cell battery?) would drag me down. Id be complaining all the way to the bank

Right tools for the right jobs.

p/s btw due to the same screen size (15.6"), have you considerd the p1? is it that much more expensive? too powerful for the required job?

p/s2. just checked L580 prices. It's substantially cheaper than the P1. Ok i got it. can get 2 L580 for a single p1. Battery is only 45 wh though, looks barely enough if always on mobile

I msg them, and they ask me email Lenovo....
I wait 2moro see is it they forgot delivery the backpack...
*
that looks bad

all my 3 items (laptop, mouse, backpack) were sent separately. but UPS tracking was on point, when I got my items, each tracking number reported "delivered"

So if there was a mismatch, probably someone took your item? Hope the laptop is safe

eGPU no need buy so high end...
higher end = bottleneck more due to TB3 bandwidth

Some of our THinkpads (like the X1C6) has 4xPCIe lanes... in a way, the MX150 is not very useful if it take up the PCIE lanes for use of eGPU through TB3

This fella uses GTX1070 as his eGPU, both through internal and external monitors and have no issues with it..

45W confirm can charge , anything low it wouldn't work

In my X6E , I need to use minimum for 65W , even that it would be in throttled mode
1070 does work very well , you can pump games in high settings , of course you are not going to get 100fps , but you will get like 60-80% of it
*
How do I check the current power draw? Can I check it from the vantage? I am not seeing that option.

Vantage wouldn't show , it shows the charge information

Here is what I've observed with 45W charger on my X1E

1 PC will detect but it will refuse to charge , it will still run on battery. You'll get notification that power adapter is not compatible. Unlike Mac and other USB-C laptops , Our Thinkpad does not do SLOW drain. Some laptops , it will do slow drain (aka slowly drains the battery by using power + battery). For our Lenovo , its either it can top up battery or not at all
2. 65W , it can charge the battery but slowly but CPU is throttled , I am using H series , so probably there is not enough power to run at full power.
3. 85W - charges  but again charges very slow
4. 100W - haven't tried. Maybe if I get eGPU - I'll test that one
*
ok follow up q then:

With your X1E, using 45W, can it charge while the PC is off/hibernating?

On my 65W thinkpad original charger, the laptop can be used while charging at the same time. Im assuming if I get the same 65W 3rd party charger, id experience the same thing. What is the power rating for your original X1E charger?

Yes 45W can charge up while the computer is off/hibernate  (standby does not count)
Your laptop can support 45W/65W . 65W gives you Quick Charge , 45W gives you normal. So for your case 45/65 is fine. Your laptop uses U series CPU , mine uses H series which is higher power consumption + I have a 1050Ti GPU and its active , and it can kick in when the laptop thinks it needs the extra GPU power like playing games

A great laptop for a great man notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Thanks for sharing. I will probably just stick with a 45W Ugreen charger. Only RM89. 45W Ugreen So cheap, much cheaper than comparably-rated 45W from Aukey. Both are from the so-called "lazmal", so I assume they are safe

When I charge my X1C6 with the stock charger, launch Lenovo Vantage, and on the power option it will show 65W USB-C charging or something like that.
When I change to Aukey 45W PD, Lenovo Vantage will show 45W USB-C

I guess you got exactly what you paid for. Ill rport back with my cheap RM89 UGREEN 45W PD charger. Problem is that it is shipping directly from CHINA. it is a Lazmall store though.

The 8 hour is enough for me and i just need a small charger in emergencies

I got the Aukey PA-Y10 for RM136.8, after bundling with the other chargers.. .RM169 total (free shipping). I think I might as well just spend a bit more than the China-bound charger for my X1C

5 hours on that large a laptop screen (15.6"), 45 WHr battery (compared to the smaller X1C's 57 WHr), is quite good isn't it?
