Try changing the earphone 1st? Amp improvements are quite little compared to headphone upgrade

what is your recommendation? i may start with the affordable one first since this was my first attempt in this field. so far i do some searching looks like FiiO product have lots of review.

Yes, your biggest bottleneck with your current setup is your earphones

The chain is
Player->dac->amp-> headphone
Player itself usually have a dac amp built inside of it. Adding an amp will just increase the volume. Unless you could get an apple LOD which feeds your external amp with signal direct from the dac bypassing the internal amp.
But then i doubt your htc on headphone would benefit much from an amp

based on my google effort so far i see most Ipod setup they used the LOD (images show FiiO LOD). Plan to bypass the ipod DAC. coz i more to rock/metal with high in bass sound.
so current when i play a song with high bass drop music, sound like pecah.

so i will discuss about the headphone on headphone section. back to amp, what amp DAC + Amp that good for starting? saw E1 - AKG recommend the FiiO e10k.

hope u guys will be patient with me towards my lots of question. im trying to learn a new thing in my life now.

Bass distortion can come from various possibility. Firstly, your source as in files. Do you rip them from CDs or paid download or pirate bay / torrent it

e10k is a desktop dac amp. E1 had been in the community for very long, what they recommend could be the best you can get for your money

Just solved my ipod classic bass distortion issue. need to set flag on each mp3 files loudness to 89db. eq problem in ipod classic device. no wonder i play same mp3 on htc one and ipod nano, no problem at all.
