Hi, would like to know what is the normal charges to see a gynae doctor? I went to tawakal hospital, the gynae doctor gives some medicine, do some scanning of my baby(1st baby, 6 weeks ++ )
and the charges as below:

medicine: rm35
consultation: rm 80
procedure: rm 150

Anyone know what is the "procedure" refers to? I dont really realize this untill i check the breakdown details at home, so not able to ask the person.

Total: rm 265, is this too expensive? The service is so so, the doctor dint talk much, and we already told him this is out first baby, but, he also dint advise what we should dos and donts. A bit disappointed of the service provided with rm265

Any recommandation of good mandarin speaking gynae doctor in KL area?

biar betul! you've been had..

consultation should only cost about rm10 to rm20.
scanning should only cost about rm40 to rm50 i suppose, even a 3D scan would only cost rm90 at certain places, and no right-minded doctor would do a 3D scan at 6 weeks..

but the worse is the procedure charge, what procedure did he perform exactly??? that's the biggest rip-off..

you're better off going to reputable private clinics for check-ups at this stage, only go to the hospital (where you plan to deliver) at 20++ weeks for what we call a booking visit..

oo ok i misread, so he is actually charging rm150 for the scan (which is still way too expensive).. rm80 for consultation is definitely expensive, only the medicine charge looks reasonable to me..

imho 265 is normal for private hospital, 280 is the average. my wife and i did checkups at prince court medical, around 340 per visit. but since the doc is so unfriendly, better go somewhere else. no point paying so much also but did not receive equivalent input.

340 is normal for prince court, but 265 is expensive even for a private hospital.. pusrawi in kota damansara (different management with pusrawi tun razak) charges rm70 on average for maternity visits (including scans).. basically you can get a much more reasonable price, for the same level of care (if not better)..

Places like KPJ, Gleneagles, tawakal, SJMC..please expect around that region. Unless you go to small maternity hospitals..then it will be lesser than RM100.

My experience sending my wife to Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital... and all my three kids birth at the hospital and the charges for pregnancy checkup below RM100... normally I've to pay around rm75 (consultation & scanning) and the total with meds ranges RM100 - RM150. Oh, he's not speak mandrin... happy.gif

For normal delivery charges at the hospital (3 days & 2 night):
4 bedded - RM2150 (if not mistaken)
2 bedded - RM2450 (if not mistaken)
1 bedded - RM2650 (this the normal package I took)

but upon discharge the charges I need to pay is less than RM3k.

To my knowledge..doc would advise dos and don't when there's problem (ie spotting, cramps). if it looks normal and you never complained anything..then they don't say much unless you have questions.

In fact, there's not much dos and don't in the medical sense (if pregnancy is ok)..it's only our cultural beliefs that has the dos and don't

I believe in seeing a doctor that you are most comfortable with. Identify where you want to deliver..and see if you are comfortable with the doctor there.

Of coz budget also plays a part too..but if you are ok with any cost..then your only problem would be finding the right doctor.

when i went for first time check up with Dr Guna (Damansara specialist hospital), i was 2-3 weeks pregnant. Cannot see the sac yet.

He told me to wait for another month for check up. Don't talk about those can do or cannot do first. Confirm whether its pregnancy first and pray hard baby is ok. cuz first 12 weeks is very unstable. Take my folic acid.

while my GP advise, don't simply eat medicine. Best if don't take any medicine to prevent harming the baby.

One of the reason being an Ob/gyn is unpopular lately is the risk of lawsuits smile.gif And talking will make you sit longer in their office, hence longer waiting time for other patients?

And I think different cultures have different rituals / beliefs etc .. some may not want to argue / discuss on those with you.. when I try to bring up that subject, my ob/gyn personally said "in modern medicine, there are a lot of things that we dont know... "

I remember last time check up my wife at pusrawi kl, DEMC shah alam, for the 1st appointment checking a bit expensive, rm200-350 next

appointment much cheaper around 100-150. Usually the cost will be high if u scan every check up, the most expensive DEMC shah alam cost me

about rm350 for check up+medicine+consultation+3d scan. Pusrawi KL much cheaper i think RM150.

I am currently 7 months pregnant and I've visited Dr Foong from Tawakal Hospital since 4th week of my pregnancy. My first visit costs about the same. The subsequent visit is RM120 for consultation & procedure. The medicine is RM10 (for my pre-natal vitamin) and RM 5 or RM10 for the ultrascan picture.

For first visit, the medicine is RM35 because it's folic acid. During the first visit, the doctor has to check when's your due date n etc....normally, Dr Foong doesn't advice much but he always ask whether u have any question to ask.

Common question that I ask:
1. Is there anything I should not eat?
2. How much is the delivery (Normal/caesarian)?
3. Under what circumstances should I deliver under caesarian?

As you are approaching the 3rd month, he will advice to go for a 1st trimester blood test which cost about RM150-200 (i forgotten) to check for down syndrome. He will say that this test is 85% accurate.

For me, I've been visiting Dr Foong since 10 years ago because I have recurrent ovarian dermoid cyst which operated by him 3 times. He has an excellent surgeon skill and I do not feel any fear and feel very comfortable under his care. So, since this is my first baby, I prefer to go back to him.

mine i think (2 years back) was RM50 per visit.. first visit more expensive like RM100

for your RM200+ is it because your doctor use very canggih equipments? my friends visits also costs as much cause everytime her doctor uses a 3d (or 4D i can't remeber) scan instead of jsut ultrasound... .so at the end of her pregnancy she can already see her baby features

Privite cost RM40 for month checkup and about RM150 for 3D scan

Gorv clinik for FREE drugs, and free vaccine after baby comes out.

Quite a good service for Gorn sector, they come your house to visit you and baby after birth giving...

ahhah just to update for the charges. I found that rm235 was damn cheap. I just went to Gleneagle hospital for second checkup, it cost me rm6xx smile.gif
But this time, my wife and myself feel ok, eventhough it is X3 expensive than the previous one.

I went to the klinik ibu & kanak from early pregnancy chk up till i gave birth at private hospital and didnt even need to pay a single sen. Every visit like the private clinic chkup i did urine test, bb heart beat, ultra sound 3 times using the most standard machine measuring bb hand, feet, neck etc to determine the bb if down syndrome without printout of cos additional chk would be blood test for oksigen contain in our blood, high blood pressure, sugar level, 2 jabs of kancing gigi, also given medicine like folic acid, Bcomplex, acsorbic acid, iron. The nurses there are very friendly and every visit is by appointmt so i only need to wait about 1 to 1.5hr. When i almost due the chk up bcome even closer. The nurse even asked me to count my bb movemt and note down in the book. If i dont she will scold me cos it is for my own good. Thru out my whole pregnancy beside the delivery chg i only pay for the 3D scan which i did it in Columbia asia seremban where i planned to give birth at only RM90. After i hv given birth my gynae downloaded all the 3D images into a CD for me. My bb came out very healthy. Thanks to the nurses & doctors in klinik ibu & kanak kanak at segambut. I have also registered my bb for the immunisation jabs at KIKK. .Again is FOC. Next month my bb will be receiving her 3rd jab. Waiting hour is even shorter about half an hour only.

Hi guys,

When do you usually go for your 1st check-up - to find out if you are pregnant or not? Do you go directly to Ob/Gyn or just to the normal GP doctors?

I'm 10 days late, my cycles varies frm 28-32 days the most. Home pregnancy result was negative on day 5.

I went to the gynae when I had a positive home pregnancy test.

You can test again on day 14. Sometimes it could be stress that causes your menses to be late.

If you did not have your menses by day 32, then I think you can go visit your gynae.

Btw, your 10 days late, is counted based on 28 days cycle or 32 days cycle? You should calculate based on your longest cycle.

I calculated based on 28 days cycle as that has been my cycle for 3 months straight now. By the way, my period just started about an hour ago sad.gif .. guess we'll have to keep trying.

I could be late due to the fact that I've been fasting, could have made my hormones go haywire. Thanks blahnik.

your doctor should guide you with your pregnancy, not just do scans...... maybe you should look for another better ob-gyn.

My wife is pregnant for 7 weeks now.

Still not sure which Hospital or Private Hospital to go for Check Up.

I heard from my friend First Time Check Up always abit expensive.

I'm living in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.

Would appreciate any recommendation.

I've been having my monthly checkup at KPMC (the one at Kajang) and the cost is less than RM100.
never got the chance to stay at the VIP room (all of my 5 kids were delivered there and I took the single room only) but I think it would be great if you get the chance, since there is a separate room for your hubby to sleep.
i think KPMC charges are the lowest compared to other private hospitals/medical centres.

Hello, was wondering if anyone can share good gynae. I'm 4weeks now, thought it'd be a good time to hunt for a good Dr.
I went to Lourdes in Jln ipoh today, just to check if I should know /do anything since its my first. .
But the Dr damn weird lah! !! She scan me, at 4 weeks and say that it could be ecoptic pregnancy and ask me do blood test cuz cannot see anything. I thought it was normal to not see anything during an ultrasound scan at this time. I was just expecting some med or supplements from her.

Now that she's scared me, id like to have a second opinion, but only at 6 weeks. At least that time can hopefully see something.

Anyone can to share your gynae?
What are the charges for kpj dsara?

Oh btw, it is normal to have mild on and off cramps right?

Hi all,

My wife is currently 14 weeks pregnant, and last week we went to Prince Court Medical Centre for checkup.
Considered as "first" checkup there, because all this while, she had been doing her checkups back in her hometown.

Anyway, we met with Dr. Aziz and had a very good first experience. Very friendly and fatherly figure, tries to make you as calm as possible. An interesting thing that happened during our consultation was that he suddenly got a phone call and told us that he was needed in the delivery room and told us to sit tight, he'll be back shortly.
True enough, 20 minutes later, he came back, smiling and still as calm as ever, and told us that he'd just delivered 2 babies (from separate mothers) side by side!
After the whole consultation, we even requested to visit the wards and labour room, to make sure we are comfortable with everything.

Anyway, all in all, the first-time consultation, ultrasound+photos, vitamins, calcium, etc. came up to a final bill of RM450.
I'm told by the nurses there that the subsequent visits would be around RM120 per visit.

Hi all, I'm 8 weeks pregnant, first time and was told that at my age (38) I will need to go for a blood test to check the chromosome of my baby. Can anyone share your experience: when (at how many weeks), where, and how much the test costs? I'm having difficulty finding out online and resort to parenting forums to find some answers.
I was told it's RM3k++ at Gleaneagles Dr Aziz, can be done by 8th week onwards, and the blood sample will be analysed overseas and is 99% accurate. My concern is the hefty price tag and I'm looking to see if there are alternatives around.

Thanks!

I think either yr friend just got charged for consult or he/she was just trying it on.

At Columbia (Kemuning) ante natal with scan and long chats only cost us 180. Son was delivered Jan 14.

I've asked at KKIA, and the government hospitals do not offer this free cell non invasive chromosome check. My public hospital Dr said they will do a test on me at 20 weeks old. This test is a nuchal scan I think and its not 99% accurate. She agreed that I should take a test earlier (10-12 weeks) by private Dr. rather than to wait until 20 wks.

Actually best time to do any DNA test at 18 weeks and Seremban's GH do have such service. You only need to pay the DNA test cost. We did once and for whole family of 3 need rm1200.

Thank you Supersound for your feedback.
There is quite a number of different DNA testing for Down Syndrome. The GH does offer a test, as mentioned, and they will offer it at 20 wks according to my KKIA Dr.
But for me 4-5 mths way too late to find out.. Why do you say 18 weeks is the best time? Also, I don't quite understand "doing it once and for whole family of 3".. do you mean that not only the pregnant mum took the test?

The cost of RM400 each test does sound familiarly like the test my KKIA Dr offered. It is only 8+% accurate combined with nuchal scan is 90% accurate.

I prefer to test much earlier with higher accuracy (99%).

Thanks again.

Ours was testing for thallasemia, individual is rm500 while family is rm1200.
Taking sample at 18 getting result at 20-21st week, if terminate also won't affect too much, as per what doctor said.

Oh.. now I understand!! Thanks.
Actually, I read online that abortion in Malaysia is illegal after 120 days (that's approx 4 mths).

I decided to stick with Dr Aziz since I checked with two other hospitals- Assunta and Tung Shin and the doctors' charges are around the same.

This NICC blood test will be done at 12 weeks, sent to HK, and costs RM3k. It's highly accurate (99%).

If I have anymore info that I could share with you guys, I'll post again!

If you prefer non invasive chromosome test, you should go for NICC test. It wasn't available last year. I did amniocentesis when my early screening blood test indicated high risk for Down Syndrome. Amniocentesis is 100% accurate but there is also a slight chance of miscarriage (1 in 100). Cost as per last year is RM2.2k at Prince Court Medical Centre. I did it in Week 16, and everything turns out good.

If I am given a option of amniocentesis or NICC test, I'll definitely choose the latter due to the risk of miscarriage.

Thank you Arcangel!!! Unfortunately just slightly too late. I did my NICC test at Gleneagles under Datuk Dr Aziz in the morning at 9am on 26th Jan...
Care to share abit more about this PWMC? For the sake of all readers..
I myself may consider switching drs after I get this test result.
The test is called Panorama by Natera and blood samples sent to HK for analysis.
Dr Aziz charges RM3k, as does Dr Chuah at Tung Shin. Dr Liew from Assunta charges around RM2500-2700 but I felt to save 300-500RM for a test but have to drive to PJ from Ampang is too much of a hassle as his consultation and scans are not that much cheaper from Gleneagles.

Hi Periwater,
Do you mean the NICC at Prince Court was RM2.2k last year or the amniocentesis?
If NICC, then its super cheap considering Prince Court is NOT a cheap hospital. If Amniocentesis, its expensive as I heard it only costs RM600 elsewhere...

-normal delivery RM2350++

Quick update! The NICC Panorama test results took only 8 days to arrive. Dr told me over the phone to save me a trip and consultation charges (I'm going in each month so he said since the results are perfectly normal, no need to come in until the next appointment). Good news, bb is normal and is a BOY!! biggrin.gif
So, now busy telling everyone the good news... hahaha...

Congrats, Lolie !

No, Prince Court didn't have NICC in year 2013/14, so the only option is amniocentesis. At the moment, price is not essential to me. Most importantly, I have a good Dr specialising in amniocentesis and he has clean record in ensuring the safety of my baby. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi All, I have a 10mm polyp in my gallbladder which cause me pain constantly. I am actually planning for my first pregnancy. Is there any gynae or surgeon recommendation so I can get advice to see if I should remove it before planning for pregnancy or after my pregnancy? My family is afraid there is any complication during the surgery which cost me unable to conceive later.

Hi,

I would like to ask. My wife recently always tired and mood swing. But she got her period earlier. I not sure its spotting or period. So, we not sure its pregnant or what. Any suggestion? walk in public clinic or general hospital or private hospital or test using pregnant test stick? We afraid it will be a false alarm. Thanks

Use pregnant test stick.

When you go to clinic or hospital, they're going to ask her to pee on stick also.

Basically you need to have strategy on visiting KK.
Each time we visit, the time are sure 2 hours from registering till getting back to our car thumbup.gif
Don't go morning, but go at afternoon, 3pm schedule.
And if your wife delivered at GH, she will be given priority over the people that deliver elsewhere.
If you want to be a cheapskate and enjoy 5 star hotel, do change your wife's address to Seremban. A new hospital with your requirement is here icon_rolleyes.gif

Hahah..we are not harming anyone by preferring GH over private. No one gv birth in the alley while we delivered our first.Plus Sealayng hospital is the nearest hospital just 5km while only small2 private hospital nearby with columbia hosp 20km away.wouldnt you want your wife to be safe n sound with the nearest n round the clock ready for her?why would we go to seremban for that?crazy idea from crazy ppl don u think? We trust the medical team over GH who's more ready for emergency unlike private. You may call me cheapskate for my wife.i call it being safe n wise. And trust me,wife n me hv a mutual decision abt this.we have go through all of our options and in our case,gh is the best way.

Yes, i was told by the nurse that you need to at least visit once klinik kesihatan to register and get the buku merah from the klinik. They when bb wan out you can go to ANY general hospital to deliver. for bb maintainance you can go whichever government hospital to service. Most important is to get the buku merah 1st.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Tropicana Medical Centre:

Consulatation: RM80.00
Scan: RM 50.00

It will get expensive if you get the medicine. If you want to save some money, you can get the normal supplement like obimin in pharmacy, it cost your around 25rgt while the hospital charge you 60rgt for that medicine alone.

Hi All, after reading all the threat. Still in the middle of dilemma should I go for Private or Gov? After reading lots of good feedback for Gov.

Would like to give a try on the Gov Clinic.

I'm staying in Bukit Jalil, any Gov Clinic nearby?

RM0.
At KKIA.

Consultation: Free
Medication: Free

Before this did check up at private clinic but the check up was like wasting time. Not thorough, doctor was also not really interested to give consultation. Luckily just use company's insurance.

First child or even first checkup suggest you go government hospital/clinic, they will carry out a more detail checking as well as offering you classes to attend.

Checkups are pretty much the same anywhere - urine, Hb, blood pressure, weight etc. Waiting time for me at KK is way shorter than private clinics. I get my vitamins and iron tabs there free.

I only go to see O&G specialist because I hv borderline low amniotic fluid. Need to monitor baby's growth for a couple of weeks. Then no need to see her dy till delivery date.

If no complications then there are no influence in the outcome of the baby, except maybe a better peace of mind to the mother and a scan printout for "awwwww" purposes biggrin.gif

Hi, Lolie or anyone who could advise, is the RM2.5k for just the basis Trisomy screening?
I'm from Miri, and my Dr here mentioned that the sample will be sent to USA for the tests. Cost from 2.5k to 3.5k (Comprehensive check).
Panorama screen tests

Is Panorama the best (in term of consistency & accuracy%) so far?

i still maintain the Klinik Pakar Wanita Connaught as the best after i went to check at 4 gynaes...

Doc is very helpful and the whole experience is comfortable. The doc really will explain everything you ask.
Price also cheap.

If just normal consultation with scanning etc only rm70.
He does deliveries too, but we have decided on another hospital for delivery, if not i will use him as well.

Sorry, my wife already given birth last July in KPJ Pahang ( her hometown is Kuantan ) with Dr Noraziana.

I think she is great.

She would want the best for mother and baby, not whats best for the Hospital (money).
My wife went to Delivery Suite at 3pm, expected to give birth at around 7pm.
She waited until my wife gave birth at 11:43pm.

Respected my wife's wish not to induce.

During delivery this is also very evident. My wife asked to use forceps/vacuum coz cannot tahan, but the Doctor knows better and ask her to keep pushing.

Forceps and vacuum will disfigure the baby's head, so if possible she doesnt want to do it.

She also does a very good stitching.

Her clinic in KPJ Pahang ( not KPJ Kuantan ) is always full, compared to other OBGYN there.

Anyway, before birth we followed up with Dr. Asokan at Klinik Pakar Wanita Connaught, Dr Noraziana of KPJ Pahang and also at KKIA.

Congratulations! Thanks for the info. smile.gif

it depends... u want to go to small clinic and check? or u want to go to the hospital and check?

Klinik ANDA at Wangsa melawati has some good reviews... quite cheap

I prefer Klinik Pakar Wanita Connaught, around rm70 per visit, but similar experience (or even better) to the RM150 to RM200 per visit at those "branded" hospitals

I went Klinik Roshen @ Jln Genting Klang coz heard of a lot of good reviews online. Doctor were friendly and patience, but I dunno am I the only one who been charged at such high price or is that very normal for prenatal checkup nowadays?

Consultation RM 50-60
Medicine (monthly fish oil, Duphaston, multivitamins ) RM 200+/- (Duphaston will boost the bills normally?)
Abdominal ultrasound scan RM 70
Vaginal ultrasound scan RM 100
Down syndrome test thru ultrasound & blood test, ultrasound scan RM 380
Our lovely baby photo RM 10

My routine visit is about RM 250 - RM 300, the one with down syndrome test costs us RM 640+
Still considering should I change to other clinic or hospital. feel like my pricing already private hospital level liao.
Need some advice here~~ Best if closer to Setapak area and operating at night.

Thanks, will plan a visit there smile.gif
is that good? but majority reviews on facebook are from Malay customers, looks like they giving 10% off during next visit if reviewed online, hmm... maybe that's the reason they having more comments than other clinics?
