Quality too low, Savvy production stopped.

(Kuala Lumpur 26 Jun) Proton announced that the company will stop producing Savvy, which has been in the market for almost 7 years, claiming that the compact car is tarnishing the company's image due to the extremely poor quality.

Proton's Managing Director Dato' Seri Syed Zainal described Proton Waja 1.8L and Savvy 1.2L produced from the collaboration with Renault as a painful lesson.

Launched in Jun 2005, Savvy is to take over the Tiara as Proton's new compact car model.

Syed Zainal admits that Proton's car have quality problems, the decision to retire Savvy is because SAvvy's quality is tarnishing Proton's image.

Syed Zainal told reporters when attending 2011 GLC Open Day that retiring Savvy does not mean the model is defective, Proton also will not recall all the Savvy that are sold.

Savvy is using the Renault made D4F engine while Waja 1.8L is using F4P engine but owners of the vehicle has been complaining about the problems that had, today a participants inquire Syed Zainal about the complains, hoping that Proton pay attention to the issue.

Customer complains are decreasing

Syed Zainal pointed out that Proton is not a flawless company but the complains they received for the past 5 years has been decreasing.

He stated that when some Malaysians criticize the quality of Proton cars, it is all based on their own personal impression and rumors, some of them never even drive a Proton before.

He mentioned that Proton cannot be blamed for the problems with Proton cars because all the parts are supplied by suppliers.

"Please do not put the blame on Proton, Proton makes 700 cars per day, that's 1 car every 98 seconds, we do not have the time to check on Proton parts."

Earlier, Syed Zainal Abidin in his speech mentioned that Proton will emphasise on "Cheap selling price with cheap maintenance parts" principle to prevent having problems with expensive parts for cheap cars.

He stated that proton has been planning to move the company's market to foreign country. The target is to increase Proton's foreign market share to 72% by 2016. Currently foreign and local market are equal.

"UAE, India, China and Middle Eastern country is our targeted foreign market."

Syed Zainal stated that Proton is facing a shortage of qualified personnels instead of planning and funding when moving to foreign market.

So means every people who have owned a Proton with problems actually inherited lousy/ stupid/ mentality from the supplier-manufacturer-seller. If it is a known disease why nothing is being done curb it?

Its like cigarettes. Everyone knows its bad for you. Government raise tax. they should raise tax for Proton cars because they are bad for you.

In reality Proton are no different than a cigarette company. People buy because it offers cheap thrills. But if you suffer like constant coughs and addictions from cigarette, its the same with the constant need to fuel up and repairs.

True Proton quality very sad (from my experience yo) but what to do. Its the only cheap cars available. So, who don't have big budget to buy imported cars have to buy it and accept. 

stupidest remark i ever heard. clearly it shows how low malaysian's standard is. don't even bother to check on your parts before assembling the car. good job proton.

No, I don't think so... He inherit the problems from Tg Mahalel and manage to turn the company around. The only thing is, he doesn't have full control over the umnoputra suppliers. Also, during Tg Mahalel's time, the management is a bit cocky... put any rubbish cars on the market, people will still buy and Proton will still make money. That's why you're seeing 3 types of cars which the market doesn't really want: Gen2 (a car that wants to be everything), Savvy (a small hatchback) and Satria Neo (another hatchback). What they should have released in the market are: Persona (good family sedan), Saga (cheap point a to point b sedan) and Exora (MPV market is huge).

Why do they take the Renault factor into their problems? Some hardcore Proton owners do know which Proton is good and which is not. The old Saga was the workforce. The Wira 1.8 and Satria Gti was the tour de force. While the rest was problems here and there. You should ask yourself, does Proton sells more Savvy and Waja 1.8 combined to the sales of Gen 2? What about the even worst Juara that literally falls apart from the body mouldings? And thats from Mitsubishi!!!!! And the Juara doesn't even have any of the Townbox body mouldings!! On that alone the plastic parts is definitely local supplier. So if it was that bad, they still use them! Why? Stupid right?

he was the guy that say "malaysian don't want MPV/van-type vehicle" and instead produced that horror on wheels called Juara.

Tengk Mahaleel keep on emphasising on speed and power and sports etc. He even hired his son Tengku Djan Ley to lead the R3 group.....

Syed Zainal, even if he is a crony, is the good kind of crony. a least he tried to fix up things and took customer feedback seriously.
