Just receive my Cooler Master Storm QuickFire.
Cooler Master uses Costar stabilizers and the casing have a very smooth rubber-coating which give is a beauty matt finish.
user posted image

My conclusion:
- Basically a Filco Majestouch 2 TKL (OEM from Costar)
- Costar Stabilizer
- Lasered keycaps
- Much cheaper than Filco (SGD130)
- Sexy red plate (Red switch model only)

For those who miss their chance to get the Filco R TKL. This is your chance now.
You can order from ->HERE<-

rubber coating is what i fear the most :S
although it feels good at 1st, but after a while it'll ended up sticky just like my mouse. sad.gif
*
I wouldn't worry as most people will not be touching the casing of the keyboard.
The rubber coating is more like type you find on Steelseries mouse. The rubber is not the razer type.

aiyak...now why only come out the Storm Quick Rapid Fire!!! mad.gif

but, since it comes from CM (although it is rumored to have the same OEM with Filco) I think I'll wait for a seasoned owner writeup review smile.gif

But man the lights, laser marked keys, the alternate media and volume keys, braided detachable cable and the accessories sure is a good package smile.gif
*
I have inspected the CM Rapid Fire and would say that it's 99% chance that is OEM from Costar.

Evidence:
- Costar stabilizers
- Costar keycap row labelling system
- Similar casing
- Similar KRO system found on Filco Majestouch 2

QUOTE(rurushu @ Sep 26 2011, 01:48 AM)
Well, lucky for us, that seasoned owner is Squarebox, wait for his review  nod.gif

But what i dislike about the Quick Fire Rapid is that the branding.... it's overdoing it....
All those branding makes it look abit "unprofessional"  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
I will post a review after using it 1-2 days.
Yup, the over-branding is too much but I wont complain when they are this cheap.

I see what you do there... brows.gif

BTW, @ sky.live, seems like your soldering skills still can be improved(cosmetically). icon_idea.gif
Do more practice and you can start to mod the switches on your Ducky. brows.gif
*
I didn't do anything. As Sky.live mention he didn't do any soldering.
The soldering on the Numlock will fail quickly as it is badly soldered.
But I would recommend resoldering.

Review of Cooler Master Storm QuickFire:

The Cooler Master Storm QuickFire is a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard that comes with a detachable cable. Having a Detachable cable is definitely a good thing as it make transporting the keyboard easier and the cable can be easily replaced if it goes bad unlike keyboard with fixed cable which rarely can be fixed. The model that I have sports Cherry MX Red switches and a SEXY RED plate. The top casing has a very smooth rubber coat.

user posted image

Accessories:
- WASD pad-printed keys
- Alternative "Cooler Master" Win keys
- PS/2 Adapter

user posted image

The QuickFire comes with the highest quality braided-cable that I have ever came across. The weaves are just so well made.

user posted image

It's has a well-designed cable guide and very grippy rubber pad which prevents it from moving around while in use.

Added on September 28, 2011, 3:58 amuser posted image

The QuickFire have height-adjust feet which uses the friction-lock system to hold it place.

user posted image

Going deeper, the Cooler Master Storm Quickfire uses Costar-style stabilizer which I personally find the best stabilizer as it does it's job and still maintain the switch natural feel unlike Cherry-style stabilizer. I also noticed that the keycaps have the same marking and labels as seen on Filco keyboards. The only difference is QuickFire uses Lasered lettering instead of pad-printed lettering that Filco uses.

Testing the NKRO, it has 6KRO over USB and full-NKRO over PS/2. It's KRO performs identically to the Filco Majestouch 2.

user posted image

Conclusion:
From all the evidence found, Cooler Master Storm QuickFire is basically a refined version of the Filco 87. The FN and multimedia keys are well thought out and placed without affecting the overall usability. At it's price point, it's a STEAL with it been packed with features and quality compared to other mechanical keyboards in the market. Apart from the over-branding, it's a sure-buy for anyone who wants to get a mechanical keyboard.

Score : 8.5/10

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it smile.gif

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Sep 28 2011, 08:16 AM)
I think telling people what NKRO means might be useful too.
To depress itself by resting fingers, you need 30g-35g switches.
Cherry Red have 45g actuation force.
*
I find red still a tad lighter than brown due to the lack of the bump.
Maybe it's mental state of mind.

QUOTE(bai1101 @ Sep 28 2011, 09:13 AM)
any reason why it offer so cheap for 2 unit?
*
I won't consider it cheap when the MSRP of Steelseries 6Gv2 is USD99.99.
There was once I bought a few 6gv2 at USD$59.99 direct from Steelseries and shipped them to me via borderlinx.
I cost me SGD95 each after shipping

PS: They had a 40% discount coupon last year.

Yeah, finally got he mechanical keyboard, and I have to say goodbye to my old keyboard that had been followed me for 10 years. It is a sad day for my old keyboard...Haha

It is the Razer BlackWidow, the cheapest one...and I really satisfied with its performance. The clicky sound is so mesmerizing and addicting. Can't stop typing now. The keyboard layout is somewhat different from normal keyboard, and I need to take some time to accustomed to it. Keep clicking the CAP LOCKS when I am typing.

Red need some time to get use to.
After learning not to bottom out on the switches, you will then enjoy reds.

People shouldn't worrying about shiny keys.
The keys will all eventually turning shiny after some time.
It's all about typing habits.

I've known people who got shiny keys only after a week of use on Filco.
Even PBT will get shiny.

can someone recommend me a good keyboard that is really comfortable to type with? i m thinking of selling my logitech g510 to get a proper keyboard...i just dont like my current keyboard & the extra keys that it have at the left hand side...

only thing i like about the keyboard is the screen and the ability to change color...

anyways...please recommend me a good keyboard & if possible where they sell it because i want to test it first before buying it....need to 'feel' it....budget is not really important but of course not so over priced la...& most important thing is it must be black colour biggrin.gif

In this order if you can afford:
1. Filco 104/87 Brown
2. Leopold FC500R/FC200R Brown
3. Cooler Master Quickfire Brown

Ducky are rather disappointing when you are compare price per quality.

Cooler Master RapidFire is an upgraded Filco and priced lower than Ducky. It's a steal if you ask me as Cooler Master are OEM from Costar.
I posted a review a few days ago.

CMstorm only comes with red switch variant?

CMstorm RapidFire comes in Brown, Black, Blue and Red.
Red are not available in all country. It depends on the local distributor.
Ban Leong Singapore will be bringing all of them in so Malaysia should get Red as well.

I love my Cherry keyboards and use a custom made G80-11900 with brown and blue switches for work.

Here a pic of my G80-3494 with the legendary "Cherry Doubleshot Red ESC"
