Recently, i have a problem with bed bugs, i have try any methods to get rid of bugs but it seems to be not effective;

Tested Method

i) Expose mattress, pillows to the sunlight
-once exposed, the bed bugs will run to unexposed side of mattress and pillows, very clever

ii) Aerosol (Ridsect,Baygon,Shieldtox)
-You have to spray DIRECTLY on the bugs in order to kill,if not, then it would run away and come back to you later

iii) Pesticides (Malathion)
- Malathion can make bugs get out from hideout (more effective than aerosol) and kill the bed bugs, however the terrible smell of malathion make me dizzy and it is not good for indoor use.

iv) Throw away the infested mattress
- can i have other solution than this? i'm not donald trump,

Untested Method

i) Alcohol
Sprinkle a ratio of 1:1 with water would kill bugs instantly,i'm not sure about that

ii)Dust
They say that using DE(i dont remember its full name) can make bugs dehydrated and die

iii)Silica gel
same as above

any suggestion would be welcomed

I saw one documentary in TV, they use LiqNitrogen to decontaminate a room!. If a room / house is infested with bed bugs, then most likely there need to be a professional decontamination service. And contaminated bed/pillow might need to be discarded? It will treat those accessories as its own house and pretty hard to force them out I think. Im not sure how ppl can "sterilize" such accesories smile.gif

to throw away the infested mattress and pillows,it is quite costly, unless it is heavily infested then i would throw away the mattress and pillow

Have you tried vacuum? Vacuum the mattress, the pillows, the floor, curtains – everything. This will not only get rid of the bed bugs themselves but also their eggs and droppings. Use a carpet cleaning machine with some disinfectant in it is probably the best way to eliminate any bugs from the carpet. Steam cleaners are an excellent tool in the fight to get rid of bed bugs when used after a vacuum cleaner.

Wash as many of these items as possible on a hot cycle in the washing machine, if you do not have a hot cycle washing machine, if possible put them into the tumble dryer on a high setting for about 10 minutes or more for those smaller items except for bed.

I hate bed bugs too. shakehead.gif

Are *ALL* the bed bugs on the mattress? If some are hiding in cracks on the bed, pillows, cupboard, etc, then when you get a new mattress, it will reinfect.

Some mattress have a lot of places for bed bugs to hide in. Buy some cheap cloth, sew a large "cover" for the entire mattress. Make sure the stitch distance on the sewing machine is set small enough that the bed bugs cannot crawl through. Sew the thing shut so any bed bugs inside cannot get out to bite you. With this cover, it will be easier to see bed bugs on the outside. You can just use a vacuum.

nope, some of bed bugs hide in cracks on cushion, for what i can see its hideouts always near to where i sleep, if i change my sleep place then it follows,

(it's remind me of Red Alert 2, where you can move your primary construction, but i can't use nuclear on bugs)

anyway,thanks for the idea.....

(p/s: i heard somebody said that once the bed bugs here,it will stay forever.......oh god...help me)

Natural Bed Bug Control

Bed Bug Spray Recipe

1 Cup Water
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
3 drops essential oil of clove (optional)

Place in a fine mist spray bottle, and shake well before using.

I want to include some cautions here. Never work with essential oils unless you are wearing gloves. Undiluted essential oils can be dangerous if absorbed through the skin. Another possible problem is that essential oils, even diluted, can have an adverse effect on some cats, so keep kitty away.

You could try out this recipe if you want.

How about you sleep on the other side of the room tomorrow night. But you lay down a line of glue traps from one side of the room to the other.

When I was a kid, we had bed bugs. Fortunately for us, that was just a short time before we moved to KL. I guess mom did a good job cleaning before the move. They didn't follow us though we took all the furniture and mattress with us.

There is no need to follow any test procedure separately if you use the bed bug cover and bb- spray on the regular basics. You can remove the bed bugs easily. So have a try of it.

I watched a documentary before.. Bed bugs infest very quickly.. I prefer you throw it away.. And get a new one.. I know it's costly.. But try to consider bout it..
You could find the documentary in youtube if I'm not mistaken... They put some meat to test.. It's quite disturbing.. So.. After the documentary I think you might wanna change your bed.. tongue.gif
Expose your bed under the hot sunlight? Your pillow and everything they still come back? I mean really put them outside your house and expose them..

Or else, you really need to catch one by one and wipe away all the eggs...

bed bug is a sign of hygiene problem. the best way is to clean the whole bed room! carry out your mattress and expose under super hot sun for few hours... check all the hideouts and unexposed sides. will die for sure.
clean your room throughly, including tidy up all the item inside. remove unused things out. yes, clean one by one.

Or you can get industrial strength cling wrap (size is bigger than those we use on microwave food) and wrap your entire mattress in it, put on a mattress cover and sleep as usual. tongue.gif

Boil water and soak bedsheet / casings in them, pour hot water over furnitures and cracks around the room, this kills of the eggs as well. Did 2 rounds of this for my grandparents' room and they seem to be gone.

Baygone doesn't seem to work at all... sad.gif

The effective way, takeout the bedsheet, pillow sheet and comforter to clean.

Than use the steam cleaner to clean the mattress, pillow etc. The steam cleaner generate high temperature steam heat which can penetrate deep into anything. The heat is enough to kill the bed bugs. Lastly vacuum it.
