What is life's true purpose?

After entering university, life ends.

You work and study hard, then after you graduate you enter the workforce and still, you have to work long hours until you retire.

In my opinion, I can only find one purpose - to attain a higher spiritual being (assuming there exists a higher realm than our realm).

What are your thoughts about this?

What is your life's true purpose?

dulu ada orang tanya saya, why we live r?

i said: dun know, then, his said: happy lo...
but look back about it (after few years later)....happy? no...without painful wat call happy???

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring….
Will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time….

Men……probably the most mysterious species on our planet….
A mystery of unanswered questions…..

Who are we? Where do we come from?
Where are we going? How do we know. What we think we know?
Why do we believe anything at all?

Countless questions in search of an answer……..
An answer that will give rise to a new question…..
And the next answer will give rise to the next question and so on….
But, in the end, isn't it always the same question?
And always the same answer?

When u r child , u have a dream.
so, u tak sabar sabar mau grow up.....

when u growup.. u know the reality isn't like wat u plan.
u work for ppl just bcos of money for living.

Where is your dream?

人因梦想而伟大,(Human bcome great bcos of dream)

梦想因行动而实现,(action make dream come true)

实现因现实而破灭 (dream destroy bcos of reality).

Here is my view: Life is not how many candy u can grab. Is about how many shits/ hits u can eat. In the progress of "eating", wat can u learn about it, experince it & go tru it. Only yourself know about it.

cheer..cos we still alive. icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

It is an unanswerable question before we know who or what created us, if you say god, then did god destined your daughter to be raise as victim of rape and killed? If you are born a blind or handicap, down syndrome, why god want to punish you and your family? If those are Karma, is it fair that you being punish don't even know what your previous life did wrong?

There is no god, only the creator that made us by intention or not. That is why Stephan Hawkins says our existence don't require god's intervention.

Life has no purpose, the moment you do something for others and to yourself manifest a purpose be it long term or short. So you can create many purposes, you work long hours is because you need the money to exchange with everything, the work's purpose is to enrich the boss or serve the community, when you have food & shelter, you spend that little bit of personal time do excel from repeating the same working cycle under somebody's standard.

When you understand what you can do and how, you decide how you want to live a life, if you adopted a believe and think ordinary, your purpose is to serve others. I have lived 43 years to know what I am and what I want for the rest of my life.

In matrix term, we are living because we generate so much power for the machines through our brain.
But I think it's for survivor.

So, in matrix term, the adrenalin of raping and being rape and killed must have booted more electric power loh? But then it must have reduced the power generation from those who morn or it too is just to create activity for the brain? Like I said, if you believe in something, your purpose is served, that is why stupid people get scammed.

There is no purpose to life. Life exists because of probability. There are infinite number of universes . Some have no life forms, some have different kind of life forms. Our universe is one which supported intelligent life forms such as you and me. And because we existed in this universe we ask this type of questions. There are multitude of other universes where no one is around to ask the question. You think this universe is special because human are able to think and ask why we exists. So I repeat, there is no purpose to life. This just my own pet theory feel free to argue it.

If you read TS opening topic carefully, he is asking the purpose of life. Whether aliens exists or not is irrelevant to the topic.

We exist because of what we did previously.Until the day we are perfect , we will continue to exist whether we like it or not.

When we live we create a momentum that keeps pushing us to the next existence until we truly realise what it is all about. Then we will no longer
exist nor extinguished

Everyone of us are unique and born with a special "gift" and given a purpose of life.
We can choose to use the "gift" to help and add value to other people life and make it a better world.

Many people are successful in term of career, power and get all what they want, but yet they still feel lack of inner peace, this is because they tend to ignore the spiritual satisfaction.

When you have the chance and power to help other , do it so

"When you give, you will receive"

U are born to be part of this system. U are born to pay tax. U are born to serve as employee. U are born to pay the world debt!!!!

IF u can escape from debt in current life, then u might find other purposes of life. Until then, your purpose of life is just to pay debt.

The purpose of life is to continue.
By continuously passing down on our essence to new lifeforms, the "life" in us lives on forever.

生命是延伸。活着是体验。人生是旅程。相识是缘分。爱情是感觉。 结束是开始。走了是光阴。留下是回忆。

Life (forms) is to continue, live bcos of experince, life like journey, knowing bcos of destiny, love bcos of feel, end is start, time gone but leave is memory (recall).

The purpose of life is...

...while you are trying to look for the answer, you are inevitably living in it, while trying to look for the answer for the question:

"What should I do now?"

That, my friends, is the purpose of life.

Why human keep wild animals in the zoo? Its the same as what keep us on Earth or Universe, maybe we need to go out of the Universe to find out. So what if the Universe is just creator's game? Dinosaur not fun any more and make another kind of being that can invent themselves, maybe carry a bit of creator's intelligence, that is why no other animal have it.

If people love to watch movie and drama, it must be what the creator like about watching us. Make various race to challenge each other otherwise boring also. laugh.gif

There is no purpose. You are just a product of your parents' intercourse. You can make up different purposes for your life, but ultimately, it is you who decide the purpose, life itself does not contain any purpose.

Ultimately just fearing the end about to come...; to be judged & be eligible to enter...

But while waiting for the end, I live my life.

I will study, learn, enjoy life, work for necessity, take good care of my health, have goals in life, play, perform necessary mission works, & etc... smile.gif

I should not really be fearing anything in this life (like I am now); I should instead really fear the one who can decide the fate of my soul...

(However, it is mind boggling to think about the after-life...)

Right now I am in life on Planet Earth; I will "live" it. cool2.gif

Regards.

The purpose of life is attaining true peace. I don't mean sitting down and listening to music. I mean actual peace - a world where everyone is happy and our efforts are recognised. Even when our time comes, you are more than happy to move on since you have attained peace.

Unfortunately, the world we live in does not seem to want to achieve this. It is a hostile world where not everyone will ever in the lives get a chance to attain true peace. Nature is absolutely the vital ingredient in attaining true peace. There are plenty of crooks and evil doers that challenge our very goals in life. There are times when "good" folks have to turn "bad" in the name of achieving their goals. As such, the generation that exists now and in the future will have to help others try to achieve true peace - be it at work, or with friends or family. Anything that will bring happiness and comfort.

Life = attaining true peace.

There are plenty of people out there who have left their jobs, become adventurers, become monks, founded charity institutions, etc. - - all in the name of finding peace.

Could it be aspect of religion that keeps us going? I mean, you can argue that there are a lot of Atheist that lived on without religion , but the religion i'm talking about here is not just god and devils, it's more like the ultimate concern of your life. If you are an athiest and depend on yourself, the society will be your god, they will be the one giving the chances. If you think that only money and touchable objects are the only things that exist, then materialism would be your god. For me, i think, these are what keeping us living.

Take Japan for instance, after a series of tragedy to them, quite frankly, there are no point living anymore. So many things are lost, so many hardwork lost. But one was not lost, their religion.

And these are just what i think, it is not aimed to anyone or a group of people with common interest in general. It is just an opinion. I know it gets a little sensitive when it comes to religions and stuffs. smile.gif

Why do we need a purpose / religion? If we have to ask these questions means we are created to live without them, it is a choice not a necessity.

Added on September 19, 2011, 5:44 pmTS you can try to learn Buddhism, I mean true Buddhism like those who live in temple in Sri Lanka. If you willing to throw away all your possession and connection with this world.

Life purpose for everyone is the same, to SATISFY OURSELF, others are secondary. Doing charity, practice Buddhism, strive in scientific research, whatever they make you feel worthwhile and satisfying.

I'm not sure that which religion state that human can become God, you mean deity perhaps?
For Buddhist their life purpose is to reach the state of enlightenment, or Nirvana.
For Christian that would be return to The Kingdom of God.
For Atheist, become rich? Become famous? I dunno, whatever that make you satisfy tongue.gif
Just make sure that you able to guarantee the satisfaction can last for your whole life

You just assume what you know or understand about a non believer as Atheist from a believer point of view like they miss something, because of that quick to judge attitude, you misread my post, did I say become god?

I don't know what to do to feel satisfy, how to make satisfaction last a life time, just live until I die because I did not choose to be born. Your point of view is biased because you have chosen side, defending your conscience. I have nothing to defend waiting to be convinced or influenced but so far nothing seems attractive or offer the guidance, that is why I don't believe.

I do have visions of the dead about his regret before I was told he is gone until two years later, is that a sign of Karma? Does that mean I am a Buddhist at heart?

From the stand point of a living being. To propagate or assist others of the same species in their propagating effort, to ensure the continuity of our species. Until that day, our purpose presents itself.

Basically there is actually no meaning in our life, except to let our programming as a living being, runs it's cause.

The thing is, even if there was a God. Is our purpose to accompany God through enternity?
Seems pretty pointless too.

IMO, human is created by God. since i was born, my parent taught me about islam. and there are certain point of my life that arguing about God existence where i almost become an atheist. but then there was something that caught me to think back about the idea of God. to think about how magnificent our own body is.. how can we heal from wound.. maybe we can understand how it works but can we came out with that mechanism on our own?

later makes me to believe that all this things is not created on its own.. Newton stated that: "An object that is at rest will stay at rest unless an unbalanced force acts upon it." even for big bang to occur, there must be something that trigger it.. how this earth can sustain life and why mars cannot.. makes me thinking that human can explain only few things on this world..

no offence to atheists out there.. but when i believe there is a God that govern all these things, i will have some guidance for me to understand the purpose of life.. since i'm a muslim, i was taught to believe that there will be a life after death.. for me to be success on both this material world and afterlife is by following certain rules of God.. religion is not a bad thing, its the people who taint the religion.. to fit their own needs, they manipulate the religion.. according to al-Quran, God said that:

"And I (Allah) created not the jinn and mankind except to worship Me (Allah)" - Az-Zariyat (56)

But this is my opinion as a muslim. i have found my answer and eventually i found my source of serenity.. hopefully u will find yours too.. good luck TS biggrin.gif

I'm sorry, there are certain parts of what you wrote, that I feel are not accurate.

I wish to address them, but I'm afraid it will end up as a confrontation.

They are not Atheistic in nature, but things I want to say, tends to be what atheist would say.

I'll only say them if you wish me to. doh.gif

Folks,

1) After entering university, I had a lot of FUN learning stuff. Yes, I slept on the average of 4 hours per day for 6 years. I worked 40 hours per week and take 167% of full time student course load. But, it was so much FUN that it did not bother me.

2) I worked 20+ years in IT/Data Comm / Telecom area. I had FUN in my job 90+% of the time and it paid very well.

3) Now, I am on a good pace and solving VERY TOUGH PROBLEM. Every work day I get paid VERY WELL to solve TOUGH PROBLEM. It is like playing game to me.

Life's TRUE PURPOSES is ONE!!!

Find ONE things that matters to YOU and DEVOTE your life to IT. Then, you will have a lot of FUN doing IT for the rest of your life..

I found my ONE... What is your ONE??

I'm looking for my purpose currently. Think about it most of the time.

Funny how the most simple question is one of the hardest question.

Sigh....I'm lost

Life's true purpose is to live according to God's will.
Life's true purpose is to get to Heaven.
Life's true purpose is to live forever with God.
Life's true purpose is to have loving and deep relationship with everyone in eternity.
Life's true purpose is to live according to God's will so that we can enter Heaven and live forever with God and have loving and deep relationship with everyone in eternity.

This is a Christian view. No offense intended.

Because there is no purpose, that is why everyone can choose to do anything.

Play the game which is life. Try to reach maximum point, either on career path, popularity, number of friends, making discoveries, having the most loving family, etc.

Do you have many friends? Are they close friends who you can let yourself loose without fearing they'll think ill of you?

Do you have a partner yet? Have you considered having a family?

Have you been travelling before?

Can you help feed hungry children?

Go ahead, your life is your canvass, you just have writers block. Try something, and see where it leads you.

You can contact me, if you need more ideas.
