The "pilot test" is basically, the actual date of ASO in the region
Just say Analogue Switch Off lah, why use pilot test/test run all those terms?
It seems to me that because they know that not many analogue TV viewers out there, so they rather do it like this. Because, when viewers who not fully aware of ASO is about, and suddenly can't receive analogue TV signal, automatically they will make noise somewhere. And that is only when MYTV must step out to educate them how to receive digital TV.
Considering the fact that many Malaysians don't bother about analogue TV anymore, this move is somehow smart and might save some costs especially in promoting and advertising part. And, for those who are not aware of what analogue TV or digital TV is about, they might as well don't need to know about it because either they're already consuming online contents and OTT services or watch on Astro/Njoi as their primary source of entertainment and news, and also
very very likely that they are not interested to know what digital TV is about. I'm not saying no one will watch Malaysian digital TV, but it is assumable that not many Malaysians will even bother and care about it, considering the majority of Malaysian consumer behaviour.
For instance, try compare how Singapore carry out ASO. They would encourage viewers that they can also watch Mediacorp shows on Toggle across their devices, including Chromecast. You don't see MYTV themselves to encourage Malaysians to use Tonton or RTM Mobile or any other streaming platforms, yet they "recommend" the primary option to buy their set-top-box to you, and they don't put too much emphasis that viewers can receive digital TV directly from their TV set that has built-in digital TV DVB-T2 tuner. I believe you know why they do that.
It's good that government finally announced the confirmed date of ASO. I really hope they really turn it off without any delay, and no U-turn on ASO dates.
