I have been testing roms from Cognito, TK, Angelo, villian to find the best for battery life. All these roms not much difference in performance. I have not tested litening as quite several users reported bad battery life. However I was surprised litening 1.4 gives me best to date On the other roms including several official fw, on standby Overnight ( midnite till 7am ) with active update, refresh data ( 3 mail accounts every 15 mins, tweeter, several news feed every 30min and 60 min) the drop is usually in the range of 25 to 30%. Litening 1.4 i noted was just less than 10% Day use I do not really monitor as phone always on charge on desk or in car
stop talking about plan and Get your phone first before posting in this thread!
there's no need for empathy to the early buyers.. the main thing we all here is to share the experience we have with this SGS2..
hmm this thread was more meaningful when only those 'early buyers' have the phone..
+1 +1
Yet to be users, contemplating to buy users, on the fence undecided buyers : based on my experience using several Androids ( see my siggy ), I unreservedly say this is the best and greatest smartphone I have ever used. I have even say at one point, I am even willing to pay RM3000 for it. So if you have the budget of RM2-2.5K, go ahead - you will not be disappointed. But if you are looking for a perfect phone, don't bother as there is none in Android yet. If you want a perfect phone, follow Steve Job as he said " the iphone 4 is the BEST smartphone in the WORLD . Period."
Regarding those early buyers, it is plain rude to insult/deride them. The money is theirs - no one has any right to judge whether they are making the right decisions on paying a premium for it. Just because you feel it is not worth or you feel these buyers are just being " dumb" , do remember their purchasing decision and views of pricing is different from you and many other people. Such early buyers are not stupid - they are fully aware they are paying a higher premium . They too know the actual prices will drop when launch. After 3 months of official availability, there will be another official price reduction. So knowing these and yet they are prepare to pay the premium, do give them benefit of doubt. Do not and never judge them based on your own beliefs. And many of such buyers will testify they will not feel the pain as they are already prepare for such
And to say they are rich is simply untrue. I have said before, different people have different priorities when come to spending their money. You can see 5 figure monthly senior managers still prefer taking their RM2 coffee at kopitiam while those who are earning RM2k+ or less ( even students with no income ) splurging their money and who will not hesitate to spend RM 10 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
I have been working close to 40 years and I can see how my staffs/managers spend their salary - many of them are broke every month cos they spend beyond what they earn, following the Jones /their neighbors and friends. I do not judge them as wrong practice. If they feel happy being broke every month and get to enjoy their purchases , it is their goddamn right. Even in this thread, there are many users/potential users who are only students and is willing to spend so much on a phone. I know one of such student, who takes on parttime jobs/tuition just to earn the money for it. Of course, many students need not to do such as they have a willing reliable source who give them the money.
be wise with your word..you say we as early adopters as fool and all..i know you expert..but pls be nice with your words..
Correct, this guy is just being rude using terms as rich brats, foolhardy . I have met such people in my 40 years of work. They think highly of themselves as the wiser ones - others are just otherwise ben83 : I don't know you nor do you know me or any early users of the phone . I pity you about your perception of people. No matter how old you are, time to growup and learn to respect others - just my 2 sen from an old man
Just bringing this back since no one answered and it's being buried under rrp requests.
I think this'll be a good accessory for our sgs2 for extreme users like me. Many of us already know about the yoobao 4800s and I want to know how this compares.
1. Actually has the stated mAh? 2. Charging time for phone? 3. Charging time for portable charger? 4. Gets hot?
Etcetera.
Hope anyone who's used it can answer or point to any reviews. Couldn't find any reviews on google. Unless maybe they're in chinese?
Thanks.
I have been using thsi for the past 6 months; an excellent product I have no idea how to check the mAh ; I suppose you need to use those electric meters from the electrical speciality shops Charging time from near empty ( left one bar ) to full using direct AC is about 6 hours The unit charges the phone about 15% in an hour - it is definitely uncomparable to live charging It does not get hot - the most is very slightly warm . Depends how long you use it. IF say 1-2 hours you hardly feel any heat. Besides this, I have 2 other portable ( Energizer, Tekkeon) - same both don't feel hot

Uncle Benny, have you found any worthy battery replacement yet? Please share share ok when you found any, i bought andida for my brother's nexus s and like you said, it is much better than stock battery~! Can't wait for them to release for sgs2. +1 for your andida recommendation.
Waiting for Mugen or Andida. Anyway I have 2 other portable chargers ( a Yoobao 4800mAh and Energizer 4000mAh) plus the 1900mAh USB plugin. These are very small - just dump inside my sling bag when I need to be away too long from a power outlet

Oh my, those early adopters really so perasan, defensive and sensitive. Did I just say rich brats are the only adopters? You just admitted you are. If you people cannot take the fact, then don't simply quote my reply. How rich or whatever your background as early adopters has nothing to do with my reply here, as I am speaking for early buyers that been duped.
You still are rude . Calling people as rich brats even if they are rich is just plain rude
Guys, I have an idea on the package plan, but dono whether its really a efficient 1 or not..
As you guys know, we have "Yes" broadband, and one of the good thing of getting yes broadband is you can access to 3G without using sim card, but using their own device called "Huddle".
Now my situation is, my Maxis line for now is supp from my mom's principle family plan. And if I want to make my number into individual principle line, my mom need to go to Maxis centre with me to make the transaction. Thus, I have come out the idea where I continue with my current line n number, but subscribe a Yes package with Huddle so I can online like using 3G connection, what you guys think about this?
Is this method really work? Need you guys opinion, thanks!
Definately. The YES huddle with your YES I'd n password will be your wifi hotspot. 4 other users can connect to it too provided they know your password You have to check whether the places you frquent has coverage or not. If there is the download speeds is amazing, 3-5 x faster than normal wifi hotspot, 4-6x faster than 3g Minimum is rm30/month. They have data plans for heavier users The huddle gets extremely hot I figure in 50 degree range. Can feel obvious hotness on hand. Battery life on huddle is 5 hours

lodd : this was what I posted earlier about a week back
Install the proprietary Samsung USB phone drivers : Google for this exe file : SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.3.350.0.exe
If still cannnot detect, than need a longer way : install Google default USB phone drivers Download android sdk at : http://developer.android.com/sdk/ Run the exe file. Remember where you extract the files. Locate SDK manager - run it. You will have few dialog box instruction , follow it till you are a prompted to install the packages. Minimum select Android 2.0 and above all files - the download of these could take up to half hour or more Restart computer
Share with you guys especially NEW users to Android which I can see many of you are : Is Task killers really necessary
transcript :
Almost everyone has used these at one point in their Android life. And in most cases, reps at carrier retail stores will install these upon buying any of their Android phones with or without your knowledge. Its part of this HUGE misconception that Android needs these to run properly. Couldn't be further from the truth.
Everyone knows one of the main benefits with Android is the fact that it, unlike certain other OS's, can run apps in the background. And the more RAM on your phone, the more apps you can have open at one time for true multitasking. This is one of the reasons RAM is a highly sought after spec when comparing Android devices.
Most people know Android sucks when it comes to battery life. It's definitely a problem in Android. We know this. The misconception a lot of people have is that the reason for the horrible battery life is largely in part because of all the apps "running" in the background. This is one of the reasons these misinformed reps install these Task Killer apps onto phones thinking they're helping, but they're not. First, Android doesn't necessarily keep apps "running" in the background like a car. Using gas/CPU without you knowing. Android will pause those apps until you return to them. If you don't come back to the app for awhile, Android will eventually close the app altogether.
The other misconception people have with using a task killer is that it's some how making their phone faster. This usually has something to do with the thought that "freeing up RAM" is going to make your phone speedier and quicker when doing everyday tasks (I used to believe this as well). But not so. First off, even if you close out 20 apps in the background, 20 more will open up in their place. Like Bebe's Kids. They don't die -- they multiply. Resistance is futile. Second, it's not like Android keeps running apps in the background until you're completely out of RAM. That would cause your phone to completely freeze and lock up. Instead, it will begin closing the oldest apps still open in the background to make space for new ones. I mean think about it, do you have to manage the RAM on your home computer? No. It just works, right? Same with Android.
But just like your computer, there are those times when things go wrong. Sometimes an app can misbehave and become unresponsive. Or perhaps you changed some options in an app and it needs to be closed/killed/stopped so that it can be opened and refreshed. Or maybe you have a game that has gone rogue and really is, in fact, running in the background sucking CPU and RAM and causing your phone to run to a crawl. It's only in these rare occasions that using a task manager is acceptable. Even then, for your average user, a simple reboot will solve these rare problems.
So for techy people that like to monitor and micro manage everything that goes on in their phone, yes, using a task manager is acceptable. But for your average soccer mom/gf/grandma/Joe Schmo, there really is no excuse for them to have these apps installed on their phone. More often than not, they're going to ruin their user experience with the phone, doing more harm than good, and it will cause them to run to the iPhone where they don't have to worry about this sorta stuff. So with that. I am done here, folks. I hope this Public Service Announcement helped shed some light on a murky subject with Android. Now go uninstall that Task Killer. Now.
Lite'ning rom 1.5 Released!!! still not able to download yet =(
btw i had flashed my phone to litening 1.4, and it seems more laggy compare to the original stock =.=
then i tried to flash this kernel "GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-3", but it didn't remove the annoying yellow triangle on booting screen... =(
You need to do some more reading. Looks like you are shooting in the dark
Supercurio is just to install unsecure kernel and root phone at same time. When you install a unsecure kernel /flash cook rom, the yellow triangle will appear in the beginning. The only way to remove this is : 1. install a stock kernel OR 2. Use a JIG . Switch off phone, plug in JIG - switch on and you will see download mode - there will be a short process removing traces of flashing. Restart phone , and yellow triangle remove
I have posted forumer tcmean excellent FAQ on buying this phone in Malaysia on page 1 post #1
tcmean : thanks for the effort posting it - great job

which is the best and stable? i just flash mine to XWKE7 since mine is UK unit....
Your best answer is to test it yourself. Everyone will give you a different answer as everyone has different needs on the phone and uses it differently. In my opinion, if you are a new user avoid Villian temporary as you have to followup with tweaking it

I'm doing rooting now... but stucked at SuperOneClick and a cmd running adb.exe for 5 mins already. Is it that long?
Why don't you use Odin to flash Supercurio 3 : I have said many times this is the easiest and highlighted it too at page 1 on rom flashing. GUARANTEED to work with just ONE Time flash If you use SuperOneClick, it should not take more than a minute to root it. SOC is sensitive to system files /sometimes conflict esp on Win 7 system - if you are stuck you have to debug yourself. You can checkup SOC thread at forum XDA for answers if you are still stuck and you wish to continue using it

USD$3.57? around that price for standard air mail in any country(i guess).. total around USD$14.57 but end up AUD$13 after convert with a strong AUD currency anyway, i heard some users reporting lag on the phone after few days usage..not sure what kind of lag they having..so is there any lag to u guys who have been using for around 1 month??
duwan to regret again since i already suffering with SGS :/
I have been using it already for 1.5 months - it never lags, never hang, never freeze , no auto shutdown, no auto reboot. I am not exaggerating - is a fact. I must say this is close to the perfect phone I have ever use. Tweaking it further with different roms, using Tegrak voltage controls - battery life has improved. I'd say it is getting better every day
Some users faced issues because I think they have been installing a lot of unnecessary stuffs . I always believe don't flood your phone with junk apps you never want to use. In any category of apps - choose one or two that serves you well, example battery life indicator : i know some guys install 4-5 types - what is the purpose ?? One is good enough if it shows you the temperature and voltage. Users will face lag too if they resort to install apps from blackmarket which is notorious being Trojan carriers - it is common knowledge some of the apps from blackmarket causes auto reboot, hanging issues
Some golden rules I always practiced :
1. Factory reset phone the first time you get it before installing any 3rd party apps 2. Regularly ( I do it once a week) - go to recovery mode and clear cache partition and dalvik cache - this si analogous to cleaning up your house. Data will still remain intact 3. At least once a week, use the phone from fully charge till empty and charge it back full
I wanted to try CF-Root. After some research, noticed that it is autoroot (meaning it does not need superoneclick to finish the job). And when I browsed the app, i noticed a CWM icon and a "superuser" icon. So does this mean my phone is now rooted?
CF root will install clockworkmod recovery and same time root you phone. If you see superuser in menu means is rooted. Launch it to test. The CWM icon when you select will give you choices of recovery - backup/restore , flash kernel, flash update, install apk etc. Depending on the cook rom you wish to flash, sometimes it doesn't work using it to flash rom. Anyway I still prefer the old fashion way of switching off phone, manulaly go to recovery mode ( volup/home/power button simultaneously )

until now i never really understood what it does. Is it something like defragmenting our hard disk?
Yes quite similar concept. When you use your phone, files and temporary files are build up progressively in the cache so that you can have quick access. When you clear these, you start fresh. These cache will be rebuild everytime you launch an app

hmm... but when i tapped on CWM Manager it shows "CWM Manager needs SuperUser access to function!"....
This is standard common message you will see everytime the FIRST time whenever you launch any app that needs root. After the first launch, it will not appear anymore
