Unusual Power Blackout
Tried finding a thread to share this but can't find the appropriate topic. Something I consider weird happened to my electricity supply, actually it happened my whole neighborhood yesterday. 1. There was a blackout, (neighbors confirmed that they also experienced the same blackout) - but still have power from selected wall socket, e.g. fridge down, Thermo pot ok, rice cooker ok, sterilizer down - They are all from the same row of power socket I the kitchen. 2. Power was restored - but only to the front portion of the house, back kitchen and room no power. e.g. Front living room got light, back no light (neighbor has similar experience but vice versa back got light, front got no light) 3. Called TNB, then no light or power totally. 4. Saw them go to the TNB power hut near by, tinker for 30 min then full power restored everywhere. I've always thought when there was a power supply disruption, it would be total but in this case got partial one |

QUOTE(weikee @ Jul 15 2013, 02:36 PM) You are using 3 phase supply, one or two phase fuse trip. It could be uneven load, or some house got it trip after short it to neutral. Or maybe the fused on the power pole are due for replacment. Oh, this mean that this situation only happens to those with 3phase, not single phase. |

QUOTE(sovietmah @ Sep 11 2013, 10:19 AM) But still need major hacking like pull the "big" wires from outside of the house (That's the thg i am worry) ? Not in my case wor.. If your neighbor already got 3 phase, then I think the hacking already been done so you just "piggy back". But I am no expert, you have to refer TNB. |

Recently I went to looking for Mosquito/insect screen for my bedrooms located at the back of the house.
Some of my babies caught a cold and for them to recover faster, would need to sleep in a non air-conditioned room with good ventilation. If I switch off the air cond and open the windows mosquito will get in, so to get good ventilation for the bedroom while preventing mosquito or insect from coming in, I decided to install a Mosquito/ insect screen. I can DIY or Get it installed by the supplier and I chose the latter.- Too lazy and I have very little faith in my own handiwork. Also as a hindsight refre to "The Details" below Decided to get the Magnetic system. Went to Google and got 3 supplier to come and measure the windows where the insect screen needed to be installed. This is what I learned Magnetic System Insect Screen Screen- There is generally 2 type of screen 1. Regular Insect screen, 2 color, Grey and Black 2. Pet - Resistant screen, its thicket and stronger, Black color only. The Frame - PVC strip and 2 layers of stronger magnet strips (usually attached with 3M self-adhesive tape). Usually attached to the window grille frame. - Comes in 3 colours, Black, White and Brown. The Details 1. The corner edges (the L shape frame area), Different companies has different edges, Some are Plastic with a notch for finger hooks, some are with short strips of cloth for you to pull. 2. Some Grille has thin edges on the frame which is not conducive or thick enough for the PVC strip latch on, so the installer will install an Aluminium Strip on top of the grille to overcome this problem. This Aluminium strip can also be used to overcome the problem of when the grille lines is not at the place where 2 windows join. (e.g. A window with 2 panels but the grille which is behind the window has no vertical frame at the location between the 2 window panels, you want to install 2 frame of mosquito net, 1 for each window frame, so you add an aluminium strip at the place where the vertical frame should be to allow the PVC strip to be attached. - Betcha most DIY Guys usually never think of this. 3. Some Window grille has bump where the "life window" latch is at. The Installer can make the PVC strip conform to these area. - Betcha most DIY Guys also wont think of this until they encounter these latches on the grille. 4. For those Huge windows with more than 1 latch, the installer can install small doors on the insect screen itself at the window latch location if requested . General Pricing For Regular Insect Screen - approx RM 9/sq feet quoted by most suppliers For Pet Resistant Screen - Approx RM15-25/sq feet depending on suppliers For Aluminium Frame - RM30 - RM60 a piece from some suppliers, some give free. For The small insect screen doors (for window latch) - RM 20/piece Finally How they measure your window Are slightly different from each supplier, Some are from the inner frame to the inner frame Some are from the outer frame to the outer frame Some are from the mid frame to mid frame I've gotten 3 installer to quote and the price can differ up to 10%. ( you nego a bit lah) Warranty Companies offer warranty from 1 - 3 years depending on different suppliers. Process 1-An installer will send around a salesman to measure the location where the net/screen is to be installed 2-A quote is provided 3-You pay deposit 30% - 50% depending on different supplier 4-They will start assembling the net to the measured specification -10 - 15 days 5-They come and install 6-After Installation, you pay balance. So my advise is Shop around before deciding |

Wifey urged me to get some bathroom accessories to put things (e.g. toothpaste, Shampoo, soap etc etc etc...)
I admit, I was also getting tired of using sink top and toilet bowl top as tables, so I agree. This triggered a round of "Hunting Bathroom Accessories " I concentrated my hunt on a few Brands and Shops. The Brands and Shops are Sorento - Has a relatively full range of bathroom accessories, but the retail price and discounted price are quite significant so gotta nego. Quite easy to find as it is distributed widely. Rubine - Has a relatively full range of bathroom accessories. Home Depot claims to have the best price - 40% off retail Mocha - Has a relatively full range of bathroom accessories, quite similar to Sorento but they have also a good range of plastic wares. Not so easy to find this brand Ace Hardware - Has a surprisingly wide range of bathroom accessories that are suitable for general use, some are quite innovative but the prices are kinda steep relatively. Daiso - Cheap Plastic wares, RM5 only, Limited to RM 5 a piece cost item so limited choice but sometimes you find darn useful things there. Good quality too for a RM 5 item. Note: Found out that Sorento and Mocha is the same distributor located in Jalan Meru ran by diffrent department. To see the actual full range go to the HQ (google it), but prices are not so good there as distributor cannot undercut their dealers. There are many types of Bathroom accessories but I only concentrated on accessories for storage. Below are the items I was interested in and my thoughts as to their pro and cons. Also are my findings on where it is available And these items are 1. Glass Shelf - Front wall mount type - Corner mount type - Can be single to triple tier I think this is good for placing your toothpaste, lotion etc as this has a flat surface.. but after awhile, you need to wipe it clean to prevent it getting lime deposit, water marks. @ Sorento, Rubine, Mocha 2. Basket (Stainless steel basket) - alternative to Glass shelf - Rectangle wall mount type - Corner mount type - Can be single to triple tier This should be good for location where there is a lot of water splash as there is less need to wipe clean, just spray clean. Good for placing shampoo, liquid soap etc etc.. @ Rubine 3. Paper Holder - Toilet roll dispenser - Stainless steel type - Plastic type The Stainless steel might look good but it is only suitable for dry places which I think the bathroom is not, Your toilet paper roll will get soaked. The Plastic type is suitable for wet area as it usually cover fully your toilet paper roll from water splashes. But the design usually looks damm ugly. Stainless Steel Type @ Sorento, Rubine, Mocha, Ace Hardware Plastic type @ Mocha, Ace Hardware 4. Towel Shelf - Places for you to put and hang your towel @Sorento, Rubine, Mocha 5. Mirror Cabinet - all cabinets for the toilet that I've seen so far has a mirror - Wall mount Cabinets with Mirror in Front - Wall mount Cabinets with Mirror inside If you want 2 in 1 the former option is good but if you already have a nice mirror the latter option should be right. This is only suitable if you have space to mount as these items are relatively chunky. With Front Mirror @ Sorento, Rubine With Mirror Inside @ Sorento (maybe Mocha) 6. Hook Bar - towel or clothes hanger. - Wall Screw on metal type - Plastic double sided stick on type. The former looks good, secure, but you need to drill holes, the latter is the opposite. Metal Type @ Everyone has it Plastic Type @ Ace Hardware & Daiso |
