QUOTE(orientaliew @ Jan 6 2013, 12:05 PM) nowadays good thing never cheap. I used plywood, the surface is actually laminated with the layer I choose from a catalogue i notice that you used semangok ply (or sold wood?). my bookcase also used the same material. when the wood age, colour will turn darker and its very nice. I see you have a very nice bookcase, I am sure that is for the man of the house wan. Mine is clothes wardrobe, for the boss lady. The man of this house hope to have a more harmonious life .. |

QUOTE(leeyung @ Jan 6 2013, 07:42 PM) Very nice KC you have there. I personally prefer white glass surface for my KC as well. Good job! The finished results are great. By the way, your kitchen is not narrow at all bro Tq for the compliment. Photo angle makes my kitchen looks bigger than it really is but I guess its OK. |

QUOTE(Titan_Gunners @ Jan 7 2013, 08:21 AM) This is something 'built in" (part of the house permanant structure) which I hope will last a long time (until day I am gone - after that: no eye see).So as long as it last a loo....ong time I guess its money well spent. (Do not ever want to spend on existing cabinet again.....ever!) |

QUOTE(Kelv @ Jan 9 2013, 09:34 AM) Nice walk in wardrobe. How big is it? Your master bedroom must be big. Approx 12'X5'. Its relatively big as I closed off the balcony.I like the glass door with middle covered to prevent outside seeing all the messy stuff inside when the door is close. As for the glass door, initially wanted to do 3 even portion (33%Clear 33%Frosted 33%Clear) But the cabinet supplier advised Approx 25%Clear 30%Frosted 35%Clear). Turned out to be a good advise |

QUOTE(alyem @ Jan 10 2013, 11:29 AM) Question - 1. The slope tile is a "gift" from the tiler who is a relative. A very experienced sifu. No spec is given as he just did it up to his experience and skills. Good for water splash and clean up. Can you give me more detail on the 1- Slope tile on the of Sink. 2- What is the width or depth of you counter top? 600mm as per the tiles or 620mm (24") ? 3- Is the depth of 600 mm good enough for Stove? 4- Since you have tile for the wall and base of cabinet, why still install cabinet based and backing? Would that save some money? And any problem if water seeping tro it? 2. Follow tile width (600mm). Never heard of 620 mm tiles before. 3. Yup. Almost everyone do it this way. 4. Install cabinet without backing?!? Never thought of it. |

QUOTE(alyem @ Jan 10 2013, 08:53 PM) After 6 months of renovating my house, now planning for concrete top for wet kitchen. Ahh .. Fung Shui, the more you know, the more 1- The slope was in my planning but again the Feng Shui was saying stove have to be lower than the sink. 2- Yes, you can't find 620 mm tiles. But if I do the slope, it will be 600 tiles + 50 slope = 650mm. Side wall 600mm and base 575mm. (my planning) 3- I find 600mm for stove is bit small. Having 600mm top, the wok edge to the wall left between 25-50mm. The wall will be very hot. 4- Wall eveness is not a big issue here, cos u will put silicon to the join. And it so easy to clean even if it is wet. As for saving may be not much. I'm planning to order the panels and install DIY. If you want to do a concrete tiles table top with more than 600mm tile you have to accept joints unless you willing to pay big bucks Get those 800x800 tiles and cut to size . Hot wall is not an issue if the wall can withstand the heat, anyway, do not think you are doing "Tai Chow" at home all the time. As for silicone for the gaps, here is something for you to think about - silicone is soft and with the humid and hot condition in the kitchen can cause the silicone to get fungus. DIY ah . . . wahhh... share your result lah. This post has been edited by phoenix69: Jan 11 2013, 02:22 PM |

QUOTE(ghwong @ Jan 21 2013, 02:34 PM) TS, Pocket with burn holes - symptom of a renevated house owner Great sharing of your journey... I spend half a day reading through the whole thread. Kudos!!! As a new house owner myself and juz burn big hole in my pocket as well for all those furnishing and stuff know.. Now I found myself looking for more storage space. The storage under stair is indeed very small. I'm thinking of using the attic for storage space as well, but was looking for a decent and nice attic/loft ladder to easily access to stair above. Btw.. did you install any CCTV or security system in your house as well? Welcome, welcome. Wow, using your attic for storage, .. I can't do that with my house. Is your attic already built originally to withstand function as another floor? Security is a must of course. |

Updates : Upgrading to 3 phase wiring.
Finally got the house wiring to 3 phase. This was planned initially but it got delayed due to 1. The electrical wiring contractor left this final thing undone when he "disappered" (after taking the full payment 2. $$$ habis, so need time to recover. I thought it would be complicated but it was surprisingly easy. Step 1: TNB Application for 3 phase upgrade - Go to TNB and apply (I went when they have a special offer, they waive their TNB connection charges) Note: There is 2 types of connection, overhead and underground, the overhead connection type were waived) - Hire a qualified electrician contractor registered with TNB (TNB will give you a list for you to choose) - The electrician will visit your house and ensure that your house wiring is ready for the upgrade (in my case, it was already done) Step 2: Pay Bill - The electrician will arrange for the upgrade with TNB and top up the extra deposit for you. - You have to pay all your outstanding bills with TNB Note: Alternatively the next TNB bill will also include the Deposit top up amount, you can pay the deposit when you pay that bill. Step 3: Re-wiring - TNB will arrange people to make an appointment to rewire your main line to 3 phase configuration The old single phase meter connections ![]() Striping away the old connections and cables ![]() ![]() Installing the new connections and cables ![]() ![]() ![]() Done ![]() Note: After this job the house will still be running on single phase. Step 4: Install Meter - After the wiring is ready, TNB will arrange another team to install the new 3 phase type meter. Uninstall the old single phase meter ![]() ![]() Install the new 3 phase meter ![]() Note: When the meter is installed, it starts at "0000000" Khaw Thim Finally my house is running on 3 phase - hopefully this will allow me to turn my house in to an icebox without the fuse tripping Many of the terms I use here is wrong as I am not a technical man and try to explain to the best of my limited ability and understanding. Feel free to correct any error that you see. This post has been edited by phoenix69: Mar 12 2013, 11:26 PM |

QUOTE(RickOoi @ Mar 13 2013, 10:12 PM) Hi Phoenix69, thanks for the prompt reply. I called 1 of the TNB approved contractor, what he told me is the same as what you have stated. In addition, he mentioned that if there is any cabling to be done, it will be charged per meter basis. He did not mentioned how much is that. He said that the length of the cable depends on how far the meter from the 'tiang' but I am guessing he is talking about underground? Need to verify on this. If you don't mind, could you share with me your electrical contractor? I need to double check on the price. Thank you. pm-ed |

QUOTE(sovietmah @ Mar 19 2013, 11:49 AM) ur house 22x70 looks much more bigger than mine, It may also be because I breakdown 1 room -dry kitchen (if you see in the beginning of this topic-pre hacking) I think the main reason because my 22x70 staircase is facing the middle instead of side. and I flatten out the front wall thus making the space bigger. |
