hi,
not sure is this the right place to ask, btw,

im looking for my first, and im totally noob, no experience at all about car, and i just got my license today smile.gif
been monitoring car selling website for this 2 month, since my budget is around 50-60k,
end up with this 2 choice. both are second hand car.

1. Honda Jazz 1.5 IDSI (2005)

2. Ford Focus Sport Edition 2.0(2008)

im not the 'racer' type driver, i drive cautiouly, and i care more about the looks before performance :/

so can u guys give me ''general'' pro and con about both car?
thanks alot.

Looks? Depends on what you prefer.

I can tell you the Focus is a good car to drive. Good power, good handling but sux on fuel consumption and maintenance. Maintenance is a killer.

source: I own one.

With hindsight, as a first car, you are better off with a jap car. Cheaper to maintain. Since you just got your licence, I presume you're still quite young, not even working. Please do yourself a favour of not dumping loads of money into a car. smile.gif

Get a newer version of Jazz that came with 5 speed gearbox instead of CVT. However CVT with iDSi engine will give you a very good FC. Not all CVT has problem. My house got city with CVT gearbox, so far no problem. Just change gearbox oil every 20k.

I am going to get new Jazz for myself. Love the design of Jazz. wub.gif

biggrin.gif Aren't you lucky? Just got your license and already getting a car. As an inexperienced driver, I think the car has to be in tip top condition else, if anything happens like breakdowns or anything you be get panicky! My guess is you have already been driving on the road even without licence whistling.gif

I would advise you to get a new car with the same budget like a Myvi, Saga BLM or the likes. Less problems for the first 2 or 3 years. icon_rolleyes.gif

Depending to what you want.... Your commitment are some factor need to be considered....
Dumping money on scrap metals are not a wise way..... Invest on properties or save money for emergencies(like getting marry) will be better.... That's another story....

Bro, mind to share the fc and maintenance info of the focus (previous model)?

And ts, i think 60 u can only get 06/08 or the best 07 if im not mistaken. However, focus is a good car. Just worry bout the maintenance compare to honda. If its a slight diff then it shud be fine. biggrin.gif

At that kind of price range why would you want an overpriced 2nd hand car (like the Jazz)? get the fiesta, the NEW one, it looks better, drives better, better power, better FC, and of course u'll have WARRANTY

Oh, cool. If you're already working, it make things a whole lot easier.

I think Jazz is an alright car. But since you are a new driver, maybe you could opt for a smaller sized car? Like a second-hand swift. Maintenance is reasonable, and very easy to park. And it's not a bad looker too. If you don't like the current looks, body-kits are always available. smile.gif

Side note: Since you just got your licence and would still have your fresh manual driving experience, I think you are better off driving a manual car for a year or two. It really really helps in the long run!

I have the mark 2, not the 2.5 (facelift). I think the drivetrain and the engine is identical between the two.

FC for city drive is about 10.5-11 litres per 100km on RON95. So that makes it somewhere under 10km per litre. Pricey! But my foot's pretty heavy, and the car is very throttle happy, so if you are a slow driver, it will definitely be above 11km per litre mark, I'm sure.

Maintenance is a real killer. For a second hand, be prepared to fork out a few thousand just incase stuff breaks down. Take a standard toyota part, multiply the price by about 3, that would be about right. I've compared my maintenance with some of my other mates who have BMWs, and my maintenance cost per part outstrips theirs. That should give you an indication. That being said, there is a possibility you can get much cheaper parts from third party providers, outside AutoConnexion. Some mechanics like Murali (famous Ford mechanic in Klang Valley) could source you cheaper parts. Personally I've never used him, because up till 2 months ago I was still under warranty so I've always gone back to Auto Connexion.

BTW, if the car is still under warranty, I suggest you don't buy it. Auto Connexion is probably the worst SC I've heard or experienced in my life. Their warranty system is opaque and uncertain - at no point throughout my warranty period have I ever known what is under warranty or what is not. As an example, they guaranteed me that my drive train is under warranty. But a covering gasket blew and when I went back, they charged me 700 bucks for a set of rubber (equivalent of BMW would only cost you about 350-400). When asked that it is covered under warranty, they said "oh this part isn't covered. sorry." I insisted on a list of items covered and not covered, and they refused to give it to me.

Moral of the story: Focus is a brilliant car to drive, seriously brilliant. A driver's car. But maintenance and the crappy SC turned me off completely. I've said this many times in this forum - if my life depended on saying the most honest thing possible, please avoid Fords at all cost - it is simply not worth it.

Thanks.

ts, am not sure about your knowledge on cars ; maintenance / technical / running cost etc...
but for 1st time car owner, i would suggest you to buy a new car; where the worry on wear and tear is a lot more less. no matter how well was a used car taken care of by previous owner, sooner, replacement on some running parts may due anytime, thus, indirectly increased the ownership cost.
works on your budget and go for the likes of new ford fiesta, forte or pug 207.
used car is fine if you know how the maintenance like (knowledge) and also, if you only plan to use it for the short term.
