its like punishing the innocent along with the guilty ones. see how you like it if you in that kind of situation and you are on the innocent side.

for example : a whole block of apartment was cut off from electricity because of few apartment owner didnt pays their bills. yet you, who always pays the bill on time is also got your electric cut off too.

This is known as "collective punishment". It's a tactic employed by the Israelis in Palestine, to great disapprobation from the Malaysian government. One kid throws stones, knock down the whole village.

Banning access to file hosting sites and cloud storage is totally ridiculous.

The way its done the motive is just to save data traffic.

Then there're quarters who take advantage of the situation to circumvent it by offering public VPN services that peers well with our isp gateways. It's been going on for years by locals yet nothing is done about them just because probably there's interest in such services?

Why commit an action when you know there're going to be loopholes in it?

What gives SKMM the right to block these websites such as megaupload, fileserve and depositfiles?

http://mscmalaysia.my/article/MSC+Malaysia...of+the+Internet

Funny that we claim to practice internet censorship policy under the MSC Bill of Guarantee.

They are just merely FILE HOSTING sites for God's sake.
It's the account holders who share their links to pirated contents over the net to the public that they should be going after.
The legality of these sites is no different from having email accounts, cloud storage and collaborative sharing.
If they are serious, then go after those who upload and share the links openly on blogs, etc..Not these sites. They are just offering "content hosting and storage" purposes.

Even the US, Singapore and many developed countries don't ban the access to this sites. It's like telling people that they can't upload their personal stuff to their email accounts and cloud storage. Things only get illegal when they start sharing the links to their uploaded content for the public.

Oh and touching the legality of VPN, how come they are not going after these VPN services as well? They are banning file hosting sites on the basis that they are illegal so encrypted tunneling is just a mean to circumvent it. So why they pretend they don't know?

Why? Our VPN services are setup by the cronies themselves to take advantage of the situation?

How about banning other storage sites such as Microsoft SkyDrive, Amazon Cloud, Apple's iCloud?
Ban the use of emails with large inbox sizes because friends are sending me files and sharing their private content with me such as photo albums, work documents, etc. You dare claim that you have the right to see them too? On what basis? That's over the line of individual privacy.

These idiots really take stupidity to new levels.
Even countries such as US, Australia, Europe, Singapore won't be banning these file hosters,All they can do is report and request for the removal of the links should they find that it's distributing pirated content.

they do it once and for all. future proof. doesnt give a damn about free user nor premium user.

they are blocking not because of illegal downloads or anything like that
the downloading from this sites are eating up their bandwidth and they can't cope with it because they oversold their bandwidth to consumer ...

plain bullshit though,

SKMM if detecting ppl downloading warez from the sites.

They should inform the international organization about this and request to shut down the website instead blocking us to access.

this is something call save the bandwidth, might as well limit the bandwidth to those certain ip address instead of blocking it.

Anyhow they also doing this....

Those blogs and forums that share links to illegal content often gets away from lawsuits because they claim it's posted by members not the act of the site owner themselves.

Then again the next effective move is to request the file hosting site(i.e: Megaupload, Depositfiles) to remove that link 1 by 1 with solid proof that's its pointing to an illegal file. Else they have no right to request for its removal out of people's privacy.

That is all they can do. File hosting sites only helps store users contents. They have no control over their users storage.

It's like a shopowner who rents out his shop to a tenant. If the tenant uses it for illegal activities and not telling, how can you accuse the shopowner for commiting crime?

it is astro responsible to block the material if they claim theirs the should go directly to the hosing server, it is not ISP responsible to block of access of server hosting , this is unfair, I thought the claimed there is no censorship on internet.

Maybe if we can create any petition to unblock those websites..
for me , they should block porn !!!

If they really want to fight piracy then there's a lot of many other ways to do it. This kind of actions only promotes it. Not to mention even countries like the USA, where most of the contents are from that country are being pirated, can't take much action.

ISP can block if they want, but business wise, I see a drop in user percentage. Not to mention downloads means money to the ISP. Following the directive could hurt their pocket.

As far as just now, I can still access aforementioned sites... Not so sure about tomorrow.

The only good thing I see coming out of this is that it will help spread the message on how to subvert the naive DNS censorship scheme. Where it was only porn and extremist sites before, the net is cast wider now to filesharing sites.

Then if the government censors something that it shouldn't, there'll be more people who can help their family/friends/neighbors subvert it.
