I don't have GT5xxM but I have GT335M. I got 30 - 40 FPS (mixed race - involve a lot of cars).
This is my settings:-
Resolution: 1366x768
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
Anti-Aliasing: 0xAA
Texture Filtering: Anisotropic 2x
V-Sync: On
Car Detail: Medium
Shadow Detail: Medium
Track Detail: Medium
Motion Blur: Low
Texture Resolution: Low

Please play Shift with similar settings & post here lowest & highest FPS you got. Make sure you choose race with a lot of car.

I forgot to apply the 1.02 patch. I got 40 - 60 FPS too with the same settings. Average FPS is around 50 - 55 FPS.

CPU at 80C while playing games is OK. Even if 90C still OK. No need to worry. The cooling system will take care for you.

I have Left 4 Dead 2, Counter Strike & Dirt 2 in my Steam account. Also I have Bad Company 2, Shift & Starcraft II. Sometime play Left 4 Dead 2 online.

The reason why I use external keyboard with anti-ghosting capability when playing games.

Where did you download 11.6b? I can only see 11.6. Did you tried DNA driver? The version reported in CCC sometime can be wrong. I experienced this myself a couple of time.

DNA (or DO NOT ARGUE) driver is a tweaked driver based on official driver. One driver for both desktop & notebook computer. Unfortunately, they usually one version behind.

Based on my past experience, the modified/tweaked driver usually the best. If I got stutters with original driver, the tweaked driver usually fixed it. Anyway, to know the best one, I usually do benchmarks with both official & tweaked driver. The one scores more, even only by 100, that is the one I use.

I tried Mafia 2 Demo on my Dell with HD 4570 last year. I can play it but I don't remember the settings (between medium to high). This games already tested on Aspire 5740G with HD 5650. With HD 5650 the performance is better of course. So, you should be able to play Mafia 2 without any problem. However if it's lag after few minutes, probably your notebook overheat.

For a last couple of months, ambient temperature is high & the air is hot. Even if the notebook get good air airflow/circulation, notebook still can overheat because the air is hot. You'll need to use aluminum based cooling pad. Because aluminum can make the air cool down & heat dissipate faster. So, CoolerMaster NotePal U2 or U3 is suitable for your notebook because the entire body is aluminum.
