A sports centre for Setapak!!!

AIR PANAS in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur is set to have new sports complex soon.

The complex, which will cost about RM100mil, is expected to be ready in two to three years.

It will provide KL residents a chance to indulge in a variety of sporting activities and is also expected to turn a sleepy part of Kuala Lumpur into a vibrant place for sports and leisure.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad Ismail said plans were already on the drawing board to construct the complex which sits on a 12ha site in Jalan Jernih.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be making an announcement on the project soon.

“A ground-breaking ceremony will also be organised to launch the project,’’ Fuad said.

The sports complex will be named Kompleks Sukan 1Malaysia and will include a multi-purpose hall, a dormitory, swimming pool, boxing arena, shooting practice range and a futsal centre as well as netball, basketball and sepak takraw courts.

“We will carry out sports activities organised by Kuala Lumpur City Hall there and it will also be used as a training ground for athletes representing the Federal Territories,’’ Fuad said.

“We also want KL residents to use the facilities and the fees would be reasonable.

“We want to make it affordable for the public as we want the people to use it,” he said, adding that the complex would be able to cater to about 10,000 to 15,000 people.

Setapak residents welcome the idea as the area faces a shortage of playing fields for sports activities.

Even the schools in the vicinity face difficulties organising sports activities.

“This is good news as, currently, there is only one field in Air Panas for everyone to share.

“It would be good to have a place to carry out sports events and hang out,’’ resident A. Senthil said.

Setiawangsa MP Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique welcomed the construction of the complex, saying that Setiawangsa did not have a community hall for the people to hold functions and dialogues.

He said the community hall being built as part of the sports complex would provide a place for the residents to come together and interact to foster the muhibah spirit.

Setiawangsa Educational Development Consultative Council chairman Ruslan Madon agreed with Zulhasnan.

“I also think the government should build sports complexes in every constituency in FT to provide the community and the schools a place to carry out functions and events.

“I also believe that schools, in particular, will fully utilise the facilities,’’ Ruslan said.

Currently, there are two major sports complexes in the city — the Bandar Tun Razak sports centre and Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex.

Kompleks Sukan 1 Malaysia will be the third sports centre in the city catering for city folks.

puchong, cheras maluri is close to full value imho. therefore, purchaser have limited or capped upside.
okr is undervalue imho but with launches in abundance, value might not be able to appreciate as good or as fast as it should have. okr scott might be the biggest beneficial bcos it offers a variety of amenities and commercial activities with less competition. i will term oug as part of okr and also jalan puchong too.

setapak is consider under value imho. still plenty of untapped land for bigger launches and masterplan rather than constraint by small land banks for individual developments. if only setapak can find a niche of their own to standout from the rest.

Yup.the wide grass field is the stadium location...ncurrent is football field.
Btw, how long do u think setapak property gap will reach 500psf?it mean klcc,ampang,mont kiara,sentul area fully utilise liao n no more land...

hi TS, you forgot one more university which is near the Gombak/Taman Melati border .... UIAM (mega sized university) and Fairview International School which is now around Melawati area.

I have stayed at both Setapak and Puchong, but personally, I would say that Puchong has shown much more vibrancy in terms of eateries, hang out areas, and development compared to Setapak (but maybe with the latest shopping complexes and shophouses around Genting Klang area, it will change somehow).

One thing Setapak has that Puchong doesn't is the beautiful lush greeneries from the Titiwangsa Ranch where Genting is and for most chinese ah pek and ah sam ... the nearer they are to Genting casino, they happier they will be (just my observation). Puchong is surrounded by mining pools and lots of bare lands which makes the place very hot and dry during hot seasons.

But traveling out of Puchong to PJ and KL is a hassle because of the toll and jam .. if only they could remove the LDP toll ... and open up more access roads from/to Puchong (WITHOUT the toll of course .. hahah)

I had seen this MRT draw up early this year from this website too...But i'm just curious whether it will become materialise...
That why i saw setapak area is golden opportunity but the golden eggs not lay out yet nia...haha.
Think logically, those MRT sure will locate at those high population areas ma like future setapak.

MRCB plans mixed devt in Setapak

MALAYSIAN Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) plans to develop 27.41 acres of leasehold land in Setapak into commercial and residential properties with gross development value of RM1.5 billion.

Earlier, MRCB entered into an agreement to buy the entire stake in 59iNC Sdn Bhd which the Land Office has agreed to grant a conditional approval for it to be the legal and beneficial owner of the three plots of vacant government totalling 27.41 acres.

However, for the land to be granted to 59iNC, up to RM60.8 million being the alienation premium, quit rent and other charges is to be paid to the Land Office.

The land is located near Kuala Lumpur City Centre and accessible through Ampang-KL Elevated Highway and Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway.

Everyone will have their choice on where to stay.

Some might don't like Setapak , Kepong/Cheras, Puchong etc, BUT YET, there're still MANY ppl moving in ...WHY ???

As long as WA got money, i buy where I like la...
