Shame on you Apple! doh.gif blink.gif

How could you decide not to help your customers?

QUOTE
AppleCare does not provide support for removal of the malware. You should not confirm or deny whether the customer’s Mac is infected or not.

QUOTE
Important:

*Do not confirm or deny that any such software has been installed.
*Do not attempt to remove or uninstall any malware software.
*Do not send any escalations or contact Tier 2 for support about removing the software, or provide impact data.
*Do not refer customers to the Apple Retail Store. The ARS does not provide any additional support for malware.

QUOTE
AC: We have a team of people who go though all case notes and find new issues that are popping up a lot and send notices to all of AppleCare. Our notice for Mac Defender is that we’re not supposed to help customers remove malware from their computer.

At least Microsoft provide support for their customers when it come to malware.

Looks like Apple to trying to "protect their no-virus image".

Lesson learn. Use common sense. Never assume. Stop buying Mac. rclxm9.gif rclxms.gif

Windows is cheaper, can play more games, provide support and have vast security setup up for free.

Exactly. Wonder why would people want to buy Mac when there is Windows. Maybe they want to show off?

meh.. if a person really is a graphic designer and he/she fully utilies his MAC, then its worth it. But many ordinary people just want to get MAC coz to show off, they buy it in the end use it for normal browsing.

It is still beta. Better wait for the stable version to be release before installing. Avast beta's are usually very fast and the release has very serius little bugs unlike Kaspersky's.

More bad news for Apple and Mac users.

Just barely 12 hours after Apple announce their support on how to remove the rogues, new and more dangerous variants of rogues that target Mac users have appear.

QUOTE
Unlike the previous variants of this fake antivirus, no administrator’s password is required to install this program. Since any user with an administrator’s account – the default if there is just one user on a Mac – can install software in the Applications folder, a password is not needed. This package installs an application – the downloader – named avRunner, which then launches automatically. At the same time, the installation package deletes itself from the user’s Mac, so no traces of the original installer are left behind.

about time.

This shows 2 things:

1. OSX and IOS user base is growing tremendously.

2. Being BSD base doesn't make it impregnable, its the other way around. Clueless Mac users live under the impression that because its BSD base, hence its 100% secure.

Malware coders and organization attack platform which gives Return on Investment on their effort to code the malwares.
Hence, targeting a platform with the most user base in the modus operandi.

he'll always compare to windows. just like our government always did. supporting their decision of increasing the price of something by giving comparison to other country, such as our southern neighbour.

The 17 inch Macbook cost RM7,699, even the 15 inch one cost RM5,499
but a 17 inch Windows notebook cost only about RM3,000 (Toshiba, Dell).
So this is a big different in price.
We can install Linux on Windows notebook (dual boot), use Linux when connect to internet then no need to worry about virus, botnet hijack attack....etc

what makes you think that Linux is any better than the security of Mac and Windows?
Sure, up to this point, it's malware proof, but there's tons of Linux rootkit around.

To make a statement, use this OS instead of this OS because this OS is secure, is very naive, very very naive indeed.

Agreed.........every OS has its vulnerabilities. It depends whether someone willing to create a program to exploit that smile.gif

wow! Linux has rootkit...I didn't know about that.
Few years ago, I install FreeBSD on my desktop and use it to surf internet, newsgroup posting...etc
At first it was fine but later it became slow/sluggish...now think back ....it must be infected with Linux rootkit.

At least we learn here that technology will not make us stay safe on the internet. In the end, it is the user behavior that determines their own safety.
