Nice photos, same as the one you whatsapp me?
No it isn't the one I whatsapp you I captured via my iPhone^^ (faster to send to you)
the one I posted here are using Pocket Cam wink.gif
Now my Marimos are lamp-bathing hehehehe~ I turned off the light at night..

anyway, about the Carbon Active, do I need to keep using Carbon Active? or just for a month only?
Some people says it's not good to keep using Carbon Active because it will clears all the bacterias.
Because some bacterias are needed for the better Aquarium condition?

Sounds like nonsense to me. Activated carbon is a chemical filter, removes substances at a molecular level. It may remove some desirable stuff like fertilizer, medication, and nutrients for the bacteria, but it almost certainly won't directly affect bacteria or kill them all off.

Read here for more info: http://www.majesticaquariums.com.au/Articl...tails.aspx?p=91

I'm iffy about the need of beneficial bacteria for plain marimo tanks, but if you introduce fauna to it, then yes, the bacteria will process their waste and condition the water. Some filters will let you add biological filtering, which usually consists of porous ceramic beads that bacteria can grow on. This is the main stuff that houses bacteria in a filter assembly, although even foam can do the job.

thank you for the Link, now I know more about Carbon Active smile.gif
so it means a must use item yah biggrin.gif

I think you have too much grave or maybe the size is too big.
I like the green star too.    rclxms.gif Is it plastic or glass??
*
hahahah, that's coral stone actually..
I haven't put the gravel in... because I;m not sure if the gravels cleaned already/not..planing to wash it it again tomorrow smile.gif
Hmm.. I don't know what is it made from..but I think it's not plastic, it's kinda like Marbles.. (heavy, had the same sound when it bumped to each other)

Added on August 22, 2012, 11:31 pmhello there...

HawkeyeLYN go do homework and read this thread from page 1 until this page la...........your questions already been discussed many times long time ago...... i read from page 1 too!!! dont be LAZY like that....

One thing for sure is that.......... there is a Facebook CLUB selling non Jap Marimos..... other place already discuss them like hell..n even bongkar their lousy fake Jap girl researcher who they say is Marimo reasercher but end up is intercultural studies researcher pulakkkkk .. ROFL!!!!.... thats y u need to do homework and read.... dont be lazy!! I feeel kinda wasting time here to discusss same thing again.... no offend ya.....
*
uhuo uhuo...sometimes.. no offense..100++ page isn't so easy to read just in one day >.<" takes a lot of time for us the newbies..no offense tho.. smile.gif
really appreciate for those who replying us even with short answer happy.gif <3. but if don't mind if people tell me to read page 1 because that's the most important thing in this topic smile.gif. but In the end I read everypage for days..XDD

anyway..for the Club..honestly I found it before Leeyung's store.. and yes I tried to contact the owner.. (I didn't know Leeyung at that time... well for me personaly, I far prefer buy at Leeyung^^.

Because in "that" club, they gave unreasonable prices (with grade A and B reason).
there are no grade A and B Marimos... why? because the pictures show that Grade A have a short fur Hair, while B is long already. And I curious, so I asked them how to maintain the Marimos to keep become short fur like Grade A? The answer is, they can't control the fur, when Marimos Grow, means the Fur grows along too.. so the conclusion is in the end, All Marimos will become the Grade B Marimo (which is that is the normal Marimo be) smile.gif.

2nd, well, of course their Treatment products don't give any further biologic explanation. It only says "nutritient" and else.. but for me I need more biologic explanation about the product before I buy. And they didn't give me the best answer to think Logicaly.

3rd, dunno, when you want to buy some products, of course the prices and the details must be provided too.. but It doesn't, kinda tired when you must ask alot of questions for that and the answer sometimes too short.

just curious.. O_o where is the other place which discussed it? *if I may know?

Aquatic organisms. Could have come from the marimo themselves if you boiled your gravel/coral stones. If they appear and persist, it means your water has enough biological matter to sustain them. Probably time for a water change? Make sure first though.

I got snails in one of my tanks from a single plant. They were too small to see when I got it, but they grew and grew O.o
*
woah, I just research it, they said it kinda like Plankton, called Copepods. White small, thin like snow..and walking around the aquarium glasses +_+.
At first I kinda freak out, and so afraid that they might hurt marimos.. but after I know about it, I'm so relieved..hehehe.. they are completely harmless to your fish, and are actually a major source of food in natural freshwater environment smile.gif but I don't have fishes in my aquarium! so I have to clean my aquarium XD. Wow.. how is ur little Snails now..? XD did they grow big?

Hi all  biggrin.gif
Just would like to know, are there any different between marimo of japan and other countries like scotland or iceland. I mean in term of physical, appearance, color or any other signs.
Reason why i ask is that, the price of Japanese Marimo are far more expensive than europe marimo.
I have checked with some local (malaysian), thai, indonesian and singapore owners. And I have mix results.

Mostly say no different. They even show me photos and yes, the marimo look the same. Maybe the feel is different. Or the rate of growth.  Not sure.  hmm.gif

That why most indo and singaporen owners  buy from europe sellers. So much cheaper than the Japanese.
Even in malaysia, the market value is almost 50% cheaper. (Mudah and Lelong)

Please comment. I could be wrong. Still learning.  biggrin.gif
*
well, at first I curious about this too..
I ever read some people put their marimo in the different way of growing..
one the person use high-light and the other low-light..
both the green are fresh..dunno..XDD I think it's depend on their environment.. some marimos would be living in the more light environment and some others don't.. I think what's made them different is because their adaptation in their own environment..basicaly they are the same species..
it's just they have their own uniqueness based on their environment places to grow.. so thats why Japanese always say "Marimo" is only in Japan..I agree because they have their own environtment which in other countries are different.. smile.gif. In other places it often called "Moss Ball" only (based on what I read and research)

well so sorry and tell me if I'm wrong.. it's just my humble opinion after I read alot of articles about Marimos... smile.gif thank you

i agree on what u say that the nutrient and treatment from the club dont give any biological explain. they are selling expensive tho! i feel they mark up everything..... zzzzzzz

as for other place which the club being hell-ly discussed.... i pm u the link.... sure u will ROFL....

move them to small bottle after putting in Canister Filter in the Aquarium
Somehow, the Water inside the Aquarium can't clean clearly.. maybe because of the Gravels? it still looks dusty even I washed the gravel many times+_+

and..I kinda freak out when some furs of marimo released from it, the filter quickly absorb the fur +_+" hahaha.. (can marimo become smaller because of the filter's strainer?)hahaha.. +_+

Definitely the gravel. Nothing to do but to keep washing. Alternatively you can try cycling the water through the filter till it runs clear.

yep..the aquarium are clean now! biggrin.gif
must patiently waiting the filter do the cleaning
anyway..wanna share another batch from Leeyung..^^
Super Giants and Giants~<3 (some of the my friends's too)

Added on September 1, 2012, 3:47 pmI notice there are some hair fillamens at Super Giant marimo that brown/white/yellow colorish(but really little). All at the edge of the hair..... need advice!
1. should I cut the edges a little?
2. should I rub them with water salt?
3. should I do nothing and let the greenish colour back naturaly?

thank you..^^

i have 2 marimo,one of it i think dying...
both the color is not dark green..one of it abit light green and another not so healthy one is even lighter with some very light brownish color to it..

the not so healthy one is like going to split, when i squeeze it,its not firm..

Can someone tell me if its just going to split or is it dying?
or is both of it dying?
*
I heard that when there are green colour on marimo, means the marimo still can be saved... washed them and rubbed them with salt water..
then put them in fridge with the amount salt 5% of the water volume!

just sharing my Video..smile.gif
actually there is 5 Super Giants in the house..but the aquarium is so small..
so I put another in the Jug and in the Bottle...
3 of them are mine, the other two are my cousins^^
I was trying this aquarium setting.. somehow the hair fillaments keep release from marimo;s body +_+
so I put Gauze? (type of fabric that have big pores?) so the hairs don't go into the strainer..
well, then I put them together, and become reaally small marimo...kwkww..

somehow my video can't appear =_=?

Added on September 2, 2012, 10:20 amwell..
how long do you put sick marimo in the fridge? (24-48) hours
do the marimo need to be given light after that? then put it back in the fridge?
do the water need to be changed everyday for sick marimo?

thank you before.. been read but I got no clue about the detail handling process.. >.<

Got pics? It's probably either bacteria or dead filaments O.O

Added on September 6, 2012, 10:07 pmI have a problem with the salt-water ratio math. Let's say I have a 10L tank, and want to add 5% of the volume in salt to the water (as instructed in the FAQ). 5% of 10L is 500ml.

That's about two cans of coke worth of salt in roughly enough water to fill just under two soccer balls.

Can someone comment on this before I turn my tank into the Dead Sea?
*
hello, I already include the Pic there.. biggrin.gif

well, about the salt, 500 Gram surely Right smile.gif

I was use 200 ML and the salt is 10 gram biggrin.gif 1ml=1gram

Oh sorry I didn't zoom in on the pic before. To me it looks like dead filaments. You can probably just trim it off if it really bothers you.

The FAQ states the amounts only in volume, not weight. Since salt is denser than water (unless really coarse), you can't assume 1ml of salt = 1 gram. Unless you've measured your own salt and arrived at that formula?

Did some quick research, seawater is generally around 3.5% or 35g/kg. Accounting for the lower density of medium/fine granulated salt, 5% salt in water will yield roughly the same salinity as seawater O.o

Just seems so strange dumping about half a kilo of salt into my tank xD
*
O_o"
Well.. (I usually Baking Cakes XD and the conversion of 1 ml = 1 gram) hmm.gif
so means the gram is the same as volume (ML) too^^

So half a kilo of salt that u dumped is the right amount, I think laugh.gif
